C_in_CT's basement hydro

Alright, so it looks like even after pumping what I could back into the reservoir, it’s still around 5 gallons short, which is pretty significant.

The floor in the room is a wood floor raised up over concrete with some air space underneath. I’m concerned about how much moisture is going to linger under the tent.

So, I think my plan is as follows:

Half-ass setting up a light and exhaust fan and clip fan in the other tent. Leave the plant in there with that setup and no water running to it until the the plant starts looking like it’s struggling. Harvest at that point.

11/1 would be 6 weeks of 12/12, so I think I’d rather just dismantle the current tent so it can all fully dry and I can clean the space thoroughly. Prioritizing cleaning the room and the equipment over keeping my plant alive longer. I’d much rather have an early harvest than be fighting issues later from not drying the room fast enough.

I’ll also crank up the basement dehumidifier to help as much as possible.

That way I also have a few days (probably?) before I would be harvesting, so if I somehow have a magical burst of energy (or feel confident that everything is dry) before that point, I could hook it back up. Probably won’t, but I could.

I suppose that’s one way to reach the end of my first grow.

(*small caveat about the 5 gallons, I still haven’t poured the last bit of water out of the tray, but I can’t imagine it’s anywhere close to that much. I may re-evaluate after doing that step. I am having to do this in small stages, because of physical limits)

Gah, floods suck!

From my experience with many floods, as you’ve seen documented in my grow log, lol… I’d recommend getting an industrial fan and a wet/dry shop vac

We do our absolute best to prevent any floods. But Murphy is a dick, and can go do stuff I can’t mention on a public board, with his laws.

I have the latter, I will see about picking up the former. We do luckily have a really good dehumidifier, so I’ll crank that down to like 40% and get the fans circulating through the basement.

@C_in_CT

I think you’re making the right decision.
Better to get that room dried out, or you’re gonna have much bigger problems later on.

You now have some experience, and did VERY well, with a couple detrimental mishaps, pretty much outta your control. (Bagseed hermie, flood).

Plus you now have some decent seeds to plant for next round.

All in all, even with the set backs, I’d still call this a win.

What are the genetics for next run?

Absolutely, you’ll still end up with some bud and you’re learning a ton along the way, you can’t have a more successful grow :metal:

@HaRdRoC & @luxton, thanks, yeah, I feel good about this decision.

I went down there and stared at it for a while trying to figure out the most energy-efficient approach. Decided that I’d take advantage of my 1/2" height clearance and I was able to pull the bottom of the tent out from under the tent, and fold it back and away.

So now all of the shit attached to the tent can stay there, I don’t have to fully dismantle it, and air can get to all parts of the floor and tent cover that it needs to reach. That’ll do for the moment to get things started drying. Later I’ll go back down and get the light and fans on the other tent. I’ll also be pumping out my reservoir fully so I can move it out to make sure there’s not moisture under it, but that’s going to wait until tomorrow because I can only do so much.

The whole room and all things that got wet today will get a healthy dousing with HOCL before it all goes back into place.

@PatHealy I think I’m leaning toward just tossing my 3 non-cbd fem seeds in there to have as close to a “guaranteed” stash-building run without seeds as I can get.

I have a number of interesting seeds! But I want to be solidly in “don’t have to go to dispensary” territory before getting too much risk of males.

I just remembered that it’s been somewhere between a few and several days since I last topped off the reservoir, so the water level would have been below full. Stuff was wet enough I think I’m still going the right direction, there just might be more of a chance to keep it going than I thought.

Thanks for being along for the roller coaster of me tweeting OG’ing through it as I deal with this whole thing. I appreciate the encouragement.

Last update tonight, I promise.

Got the plant situated in the other tent, good enough.

And a couple close-ups of buds for good measure.

The best I can say is, “The water level was below your kneecaps.”

Dehumidifier and fans directed at the wet spot is helpful. Wood floor may buckle and heave as a result of the flood. Shakedown cruises aren’t easy.

Small update:

  • Floor is pretty much entirely dry, giving it another full 24 hours before I soak it all with HOCL pretty thoroughly and let it dry again.
  • Plant was looking rough yesterday and I realized it was because I’d dropped the humidity of the basement and it was keeping the tent at the lower level too, so I tweaked some stuff and it is looking better today.
  • Still hanging in there, so I’m going to keep it alive.
  • I had to touch a branch to get it situated properly when I’d moved it into the other tent on sunday, and with minimal contact, my hand was sticky and stinky, so I’m excited to see the final result!

What kind of smells are ya getting??

Still fruity, probably mango-y? Had a cat piss tone at one point, now it’s mostly just W E E D with some other smells. As I get more used to fresh flower, I might get better at differentiating.

It’s like wine tasting, you just need to build your palate more, like you said, you just need more exposure :metal:

I look forward to your first that comes out absolutely unmistakably hitting a smell you know, and like, lol… Like me and my blueberry, it just knocks you right back :metal:

I have a few blueberry variants now, so I’ll keep a …nose(?) out for that when I grow those!

Plant is hanging in there! Not looking great, but still (mostly) upright.

The branch going off to the right had a bud resting on wires, so I pulled it up and tried to support it, but it ended up creasing, so I snipped it off. (I was successful with the one touching the tent on the left.)

As context, tomorrow will be 6 weeks from when I went to 12/12. I’ll be harvesting soon, keeping an eye on the plant and the conditions in the tent to theoretically gauge the moisture levels and such. It’s all a guess at this point.

Anyway, I hung the little branch in the closet in the grow room for now, even though it’s probably drier than desirable, but my first many years of consuming weed was dry-ass colorado dispensary product, so I’m unconcerned about my tester getting slightly too dry. For the actual dry, I’ll probably use the tent since timing didn’t work out to get anything else for it.

While budding, mine smelled like 1 giant blueberry, it would literally knock you back a step when you opened the tent… While curing now, it’s more a blueberry liqueur, it’s fantastic :grin::grin:. I hope yours grows out the same way!!

Your plant is looking great!! It might benefit a bit if you tied the branches together so they can’t fall out any more, with the weight of those buds!:metal:. Nothing huge, just tie “this one to that one” kinda deal… Just a thought tho, you know the strength of your plants branches better than I do

It definitely smelled like overripe fruit when I opened the tent today. If I keep it going much longer, I’ll probably end up doing something like that, yeah.

If you’re 6 weeks from flip, you still have 2+ weeks to go too :grin:. This, this is the time, why you have a carbon filter, hahaha

This is why I’m actually still keeping the clones alive, because if I like it, and if my future experiments work, then I could grow it again without worrying about pollination and give it the full maturation time. (and full stink)
