C_in_CT's basement hydro

With how good they’re looking, I’m not sure you’re going to have much of a choice there :ok_hand:

Looking great duder! Home made hydro is fun. Half plumber half botanist. My biggest issue running water culture plants was always reservoir temp. I do love hydro so i told myself id only go back to it for winter runs.
You’re crushing it thanks for sharing
Also clever use of bus trays. +1

Thanks! Yeah, I spent more time on the plumber aspect than the botanist aspect, but one could wreck my basement, and one could just get replanted, so I felt like that was a solid choice.

My res sits right around 74-75 degrees at the top where the thermometer floats with the other sensors. I had been adding HOCL from a generator, but it took a long time to run and that was with the ~10 gallon res, so I’m experimenting with pool shock in the new reservoir instead. I think that’s holding the ph more stable and the DO much higher. I did experiment with Southern Ag right at the very beginning when I had a mini res in the tent, but I didn’t like the residue that it left in the sump tub. Running “sterile” removes that concern entirely.

The whole convoluted plumbing system started out of a desire to run flood & drain but not have the res in the tent for temperature purposes, and thus needing a way to get it back out which led to the sump and so on.

I spent a TON of time looking at plastic container options / dimensions before settling on the bus tubs once I realized 3 fit perfectly in the footprint of a tent. There’s a restaurant supply store not too far away, so I’ve sourced a few things there.

I ran sterile also. I was resistant to the idea. But after having problems i started using current cultures uc roots product which is basically diluted bleach. Ive not tried flood and drain yet but id guess its alot less suseptible to root rot than the dwc ive done.

My tents sit in the room in the basement with the sump pump. One butts right up to the sump crock

Genius. That is the perfect place for it when running hydro.

My basement doesn’t have a sump pump! I was moderately surprised by that being in new england, but so far it does stay really dry overall. Means no failsafe though.

This isn’t weed related, so feel free to skip it! Since I needed to LITFA anyway today, I decided to make bread. I was making bread pretty regularly for a while, but then got out of the habit. It’s a sandwich bread that I came up with a while ago. The extra little roll is what wouldn’t fit in the lidded Pullman pan that gives it the shape. Also I can eat the roll while it’s warm since I wait to cut loaves until they’re cooled. I just pulled the loaf out a little bit ago, the roll came out about 10 min earlier and is already gone.

Looking good man. Keep at it.

Plant 1 on the left is still looking a bit stressed, but I’m mostly just leaving it alone. I did set it up to do an overnight feed, because I think the 6 hours before was probably ok, but 12 felt like too long. It was looking heat stressed at lights on, so figured it’s worth a try. Tonight will be the first time it does that.

Looks like they’re getting into stretch a bit :ok_hand:. They look great :metal::metal:

Yeah, I think maybe! I’m trying to kinda keep them opened up with the lst clips where I can. I’ll need to change how the light is hung if they get too close, because it’s basically as high as it can get. But hey, if nothing else, I get to add “first attempt at supercropping” during this first run! :upside_down_face:

And thanks! They’re doing better than I feared they would after the last week or so.

Supercropping during flower, always a stressful task, lol. Pinch lots, more than you think you need, and the key is to rotate when you bend over. If you don’t twist, I find you end up with a harsher bend that takes a little longer to heal :ok_hand:

I like the new reservoir, I don’t really have to mess with it much.

I did decide to change my feed schedule to every 3 hours even during lights out. I’d initially had nothing at night due to humidity and evaporation concerns, but I’ve gotten my various fans and such automated to hold pretty well. With the big reservoir I’m not nearly as worried about evaporation either. Tonight will be the first with multiple feeds so I’ll evaluate later this week to see if that needs to be tweaked.

Anyway, the plants are holding up I think. Just kind of taking it day by day to see what it needs. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They look great!!! Now, LITFA :joy::joy:

Really, LITFA, sit back and enjoy watch your plants grow in the great setup you’ve made :metal::ok_hand:

i told u how some 40 years ago a pardner and i started a grow using 4 gal. square buckets, pea gravel, uh…those blue plastic, kiddie wading pools, a couple halide lights that i was able to get from some buds. he set it all up, then locked it up for a month and it turned out bad. yours is just a bit ahead of all that. it was all his concept, he, majoring in molecular biology, kind of knew wtf. yanno.

yours is super impressive…first grow ever, i just cannot get over that.

The different leaf colors are interesting to me. I know there’s phenotypic variation potential, and some might be differing responses to the roots being ripped off. It’s been interesting to me as an “only ever exposed to dispensary weed” person to see the massive variation among the plants as I’ve learned more about growing. It’s also entirely possible these are both different crosses since they were bag seeds from a few rounds of purchasing.

And no, I didn’t modify anything else.

Since I’m still in LITFA mode, today was glass cleaning day and I posted over in here Whats your go to way to smoke? - #89 by C_in_CT in case anyone’s curious about my vape setup. I don’t know that you would be, but hey, why not.

I debated whether I should put the exact content of the post here, but if anyone hasn’t seen that thread yet, it’s a chance for more exploring around the site.

Hope everyone is well, and I don’t know that I’ve specifically said it before but: thank you to everyone who stops by and reads or reacts or responds to my posts. I appreciate it so much.

I hope you are well too, thanks for posting these beauties.

I love leaf color patterns and oddities. I love nice fades too - I find a nice color pattern so satisfying.the ones you posted have a nice dark green/purple to lighter new growth. I really like an old plant with leaves on all colors of the spectrum…yellow, purple, gold and green, some red and rust.

This is my time of year here in New England :maple_leaf::maple_leaf::maple_leaf:

Yes! this is our second fall in new england, and we love that it’s a full actual season here. The leaf colors are great, and light jacket / hoodie weather is the best. Or sweata weatha, depending on where you live.

I’ll be curious to see what my plants’ colors do as they age, since they’ll continue to be fed. Will the leaves fade/change? Will it stay fully green through the end? We’ll see!
