Can drying too fast or too long cause buds to become fluffy and airy instead of dense?

I had quite a few branches this year from one plant that looked like they would be loaded with big fat buds, but I definitely left them hung up to dry for too long due to things going on in life, and I am seeing tons of bud that is fluffy and spread out and full of air and not very bud like unfortunately, and I would like to try to figure out potential reasons to do better next year. I know I definitely did not water any of my plants anywhere near enough this year and wasn’t giving them nutrients often enough either, but this plant never showed any kind of deficiencies at all or signs of underwatering at any point. The others definitely started consuming their leaves during flower but this one continued on strong so I’m a bit concerned.

No it doesn’t

No but could make the buds smoke harsh or taste green if dried too quick.

Yeah if it’s fluff after drying it was gonna be fluff one way or another. I’ve been there with arm thick colas that were HEAVY during the trim but then after drying at 60%RH until the stems were cracker-snaps the buds themselves were really light and fluffy.

Initially I was thinking it would be a dissapointment but not one bit! The smoke is solid and next time I grow that strain I’ll find out if it was just the expression of that particular plant or otherwise. I’m still looking forward to it for sure.

If your genetics are good, make sure you’re letting your plants completely finish and that they’re getting enough light. Those three determine density along with overall environment IMO.

They will definitely shrink and lose something like half their weight as they dry but they will be dense buds if they started out dense.
