Super rock hard dense nuggets?

so I’ve noticed lots of dispensary bud being super rock hard. my home grown stuff can be dense depending on strain but never anywhere close to how rock-like some of this modern dispo grown stuff is. any idea what is up with that? I have heard of PGR bud, but this stuff doesn’t look as weird as some of the PGR images online.

That certainly looks like pgr bud.
Some strains push out a lot of trichomes under ideal conditions and the buds are hard as rocks once dried. The environment the plants are grown in if its perfect your buds will easily compare to pgr bud.

For comparison here’s some less than ideal conditions grown homegrown:

Stay at it.

This is my very last grow. In cute as we speak

Peanut Butter Breath gets me some small dense frosty nugs that almost look like PGR weed. So a lot of it is strain, or even pheno, dependent.

IMO there’s also the issue of packing; if you put those nice gorgeous fresh trimmed buds into some bags with other buds (after full drying of course), that’ll sorta tighten them up, especially if anything is vacuum sealed along the way.

I don’t have any trimmed flower pics, but trust me these lil babies were stone dense

so I guess the growers for these dispensaries just have elite modern clones that make super dense stuff and then I’m assuming conditions are about as perfect as they can make them.

Basically yeah

That, and for some reason dispo customers tend to prefer dense nugs. A lot of people associate less dense buds with with less potent weed. So commercial growers tend to grow clones of dense phenos because customers expect these days. I think some of it is simply that dense stuff is usually easier to trim and holds up better to machine trimming.

I kind of hate it when you need a grinder to pack a bowl. It never smokes right.

i would smoke that any day. are you saying thats subpar? I agree with @smokekulture, i grow alot of cookies cuts. they tend to have that specific bud structure thats REALLY easy to trim. i think thats a major factor in why you see that in commercial markets

The cookie density is ideal for machine trimming, it’s absolutely why commercial grows use it and the derivatives. Ig has convinced everyone that is what good weed is, so it stays
Besides machine trimming gives a second product of kief

I used to get excited for some reason about compact dense flowers… they are just a mold nightmare though… the worry about not knowing whether mold has somehow found it’s way inside the flower while waiting for it to mature… nah, i don’t need that…

also, dense flowers don’t have many trichomes on the inside i have noticed… they’re usually better when they are a little less compact… the calyx’s can get encrusted all the way around when they aren’t so dense.

Vacuum sealed bud with turn semi hard /fluffier buds hard if stored for a period of time.

Run them a little longer. I’ve had some go rock hard around 13-14 weeks.

Not saying it’s subpar at all, just showing what my homegrown looks like. My grow conditions are not perfect.

I bought some PGR to try on a plant for fun…haven’t used it yet though. One of our members from China had translated it for me. Javent heard from him since sending him seeds…hope he’s doing alright.

I don’t use grinders. I like breaking buds down by hand. I still use a frisbee for rolling like I did in 1981.
