Context: I currently cultivate for a company based in SoCal so I have experience with large scale grows/harvests. That being said, I’d like to begin my own grow at home.
Does it matter if I buy different brands for my grow tent/ventilation fan/grow lights? I only ask because I considered a prebuilt grow kit after some research have deduced that they’re typically lower quality products overall.
Currently have a MarsHydro grow tent & grow light while the ventilation I decided on is from AC Infinity. Will it make any difference during installation? And will it affect my yield in any way?
I appreciate any advice.
True… I considered getting a grow kit but after doing some looking around I ended up mix and matching and it was maybe a little cheaper or just as much and I got everything I needed.
I started with a grow kit and after some failures and tossed plants once I began to dial things I updated and upgraded my equipment. Better to see first what are your needs and how to manage them before spending the big bucks …
Yeah, I got a full grow kit provided to me by Mars Hydro and it definitely did the job. That said the timer was cheap, the carbon filter was not near as quiet as my ac infinity and the net they provided was super cheap. They will get you through a grow but certainly not top quality gear.
Yea I wasn’t a fan of the cheap timers, I ended up buying a BN-LINK digital timed 8 outlet surge protector instead and a vivosun fan bundle. No complaints about the fan yet but the carbon filter lasted 2 grows so im on the search for a better one.
Your tent and fan are good. Maybe look at ac infinity tents too
Price was very close and for the extra couple dollars soon as you open the box you can tell it’s quality.
But almost all the stuff is interchangable. Fans will be by common sizes port holes on all tents should accommodate 4"&6"&probably 8"too.
Lighting go for good stuff. LEDs hlg
But hps setups are all about the same. Bulbs matter to some degree. Hortilux is king but cheap ones will still do the job for 1/4 the cost. Those grow kits will gouge your pocket and are lower end equipment. Piece it all by quality and you’ll be much better
I say use different products. It is hard for one group to do everything well.
I buy based on who I think makes the best option for what I am trying to accomplish as long as
everything is compatible.
The only thing I use the same of is my ballast brand.
Everything else is a mix and match. Even when I use bottled nutes it’s my own mix and match concoction
Edit: I run the same brand of bulbs also
It’s generally cheaper to mix and match, I’ve got a mars light in an ac infinity 4x4 tent with a generic in-line fan, a cheap no name 4x4 tent with an ipower hps/mh and another generic in-line fan, an inexpensive no name albeit very high quality 2x4 with 3 Dakason grow lights and another generic in-line fan.
Read reviews, then read more reviews. Try to figure out which reviews are fake or were compensated. Take 1 star and 5 star reviews with a grain of salt, since those are ones most likely to be left by shills or fan boys (either for the brand you’re looking at or for a competing brand).
Absolutely mix & match. No company is best-in-class in every product they offer. Some companies shoot for budget/mediocre in everything they sell, figuring people will accept some shortcomings and failures in exchange for a lower price.
Get the best you can afford and that meet the needs of your space. Remember, you can always upgrade later.
