My opinion is that it’s related to cannabis potency getting higher and higher and higher. … more specifically, the imbalance on the emphasis of higher THCA against the other cannabinoids
Some old heads often declare that “weed got me higher in my day” — also my 2 cents on that statement, Yeah that was probably the case because you didn’t have decades of cannabinoid overuse dulling your sense, now requiring some 30+% bomb to barely get your rocks off BUT, that also might be true because I think older styles of cannabis had a more balanced array of overall cannabinoids vs. these modern Cookies-crosses bred for heavy frost production
Long story short: weed is too strong for our endocannabinoid systems because we’re breeding weed for our EYES (visual appeal) not for our MINDS
Totally disagree with this statement. High THCa test results don’t correlate with a stonger high in my experience. Most of the dumb cookies high THC stuff I get high once and then nothing (but I can switch to other flower and be a-ok).
People want high THC numbers and buds that look a particular way because IG and pop culture told them those things were important.
I kinda miss that old stuff I used to get, gave a soap taste at the end, and was insanely pliable like play dough. Now that I think of it, it was probably soaked in coke Cola or something in the early 90s era.
I got tons of crazy nice (and some not as nice) kind bud in the early 90s. Essentially never had a name, it was just kind bud. Thankfully no Coca-Cola.
Admittedly one big difference is back then I’d run out sometimes, and smoke resin or whatever until I got more. Now… I have as much as I want.
In a weird way I feel like I have more control now that it’s endless.
i know a guy who broke his arm to get pills and another who cut off a finger for them. it happens. it also screws up the anesthesia if you go under when you’re a heavy smoker and don’t tell anyone. i had a freind who thought it would be smart not to tell them and woke up during a surgery a few years ago.
When they do your Bloodwork for a blood panel they check for Mary Jane in the test. They check this also for drug interactions Cannabis can fuck with other meds especially if your on cocktails of certain things. They know they might not say anything but they know. The Va does this to me all the time i had a Dr make a snarky comment about it one time i got rid of him and changed providers .Next visit i had a brand-new Dr that knew how to keep her mouth shut and was kind.
I don’t want to sound like a “know-it-all” guy, but a friend of mine was severely impacted. I didn’t know it had a name until this article came up.
After 20 years of heavy daily joint smoking, he was in the prodromal phase constantly, with occasional acute episodes (a few times a month).
Constant retching, nausea, and occasional vomiting were related to the smoking.
We couldn’t figure out the reason. He always grew his own and used hydro (and he’s good at it). His preference are sativa dominant hybrids. I can’t confirm it 100%, but my guess is that it could’ve been flushed more properly.
But everyone has a different stomach, and things change when you’re 20, 30, or 50. So, I guess some people might be much more sensitive.
Not related, but to give you an idea, I know a grower who has a serious skin allergy, and even touching the cannabis leaves caused a reaction way worse than, say, stinging nettles. Not ideal for a grower! It also seemed like it developed over time.
@420noob, I’ve changed the name to “Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome”
Sorry, but I can’t agree it’s related to decriminalization, legalization or regulation of cannabis. That seems like a bit of a stretch.
it may not be related to those things directly, but indirectly through the use of pesticides and other things that were not that prevalent in our bodies until legalization. sounds like your friend got into one ot the things used by commercial growers now. that would be a simpler explanation in my opinion. or it could also be as pointed out above that it’s just way stronger and more accessible today and causing problems that way, or just reported more often now that it’s legal. that would also explain your friend’s case. we need more studies to find out for sure though.
My take is that if it’s about pesticides, regulation and proper testing could only improve the situation.
I’m a believer in consumer choice theory. When competition is allowed to operate without undue interference (thanks to legalization), consumers tend to prefer higher-quality goods, and competition encourages the production of better products.
The story is like 10 years old (pre-legalization era)
That anesthesia thing is real. I found out first hand via a colonoscopy. 2 syringes and a nurse who was amazed I wasn’t out…and a no-fucking-fun procedure that followed.
Believe me, on the next one I didn’t agree to have the procedure done w/o a full-on anesthesiologist in the mix.
Its not though. Its just what big brands are saying to throw people off.
I used to get tons of tests, they always included azadactrin(neem). I dont know what state youre speaking to, but California labs have tested for it forever. Spraying anything in flower is bad of course. But I made hash from growers all up and down the state, and myclobutinal(avid/eagle 20) was without a doubt the issue. Ive seen tests with 17 ppm of myclo make people get sick exactly like everyone is talking about. If SC Labs didnt screw us iver and delete almost ten years of backlogged tests, Id be able to show hard proof of it. But the labs dont want that info out there. Since its covering big producers putting out dirty ass buds that butter their bread.
The thing is… it looks like blood and urine tests may detect mycobutanil exposure, and you would think people presenting with the symptoms of CHS would have a tox screen? I could be wrong, but I think CHS may be one of those diagnoses that doctors make when all other explanations have been ruled out.
Ive had CHS a bunch and gone to hospital for, they look at the blood (one time remarking on white blood cell count) but ive never had this tox screen thing u mention, however i may be a unique case as i strictly boof my weed
