COVID not OK but Parkinson’s apparently OK for the US! Paraquat spraying by the USA in Mexico is what caused a huge scandal w/ NORML and the Carter administration in the late 70’s.
Carter said he’d decriminalize cannabis but then approved the spraying in Mexico. Advocates were furious because farmers would generally cut down the crop immediately after spraying - before it turned brown - and then sell it and Americans ended up smoking it.
So the guys from NORML outed Carter’s “drug czar” for doing lines of cocaine with them at a NORML party in DC. Supposedly this caused MJ decrim to get taken off the table by Carter White House.

SAN FRANCISCO— Farmworker groups, environmentalists and health organizations represented by Earthjustice sued the Environmental Protection Agency today for approving the continued use of the deadly pesticide paraquat, which has been linked to Parkinson’s disease.
Paraquat is currently banned in 32 countries, including member states of the European Union, where the chemical is manufactured and exported, and China. In July the EPA reapproved the pesticide’s registration for another 15 years.
“This paraquat registration puts EPA on the wrong side of science, history and the law,” said Jonathan Kalmuss-Katz, a senior attorney at Earthjustice. “With dozens of countries banning paraquat because of its severe health effects, there is no excuse for leaving farmworkers and agricultural communities exposed to extreme risks.”
First news on this was back in ‘19. From my understanding of what I’ve read, it’s just a shelf-stability issue that they were looking to fix — with the secondary bonus of a “new” patented cannabinoid.
For our purposes plain-old CBDA is plenty shelf-stable at room temp.

Just more reasons why absolutely no one should be supporting “legal” weed. Period. Take it off the books, and treat as it is a plant. No laws, no regulations. Supporting anything beyond that is just foolish.
I’ve read about higher than should be results from a lot of labs. Obviously, to the cultivator, they want high numbers, regardless if its true. The labs just cave to pressure from the cultivators. Pretty soon we’ll have 80% THC content and still not feel any different… sic… But the news will be all over that citing “stronger than ever strains cause X Y and Z”

My state has made the distinction though. Cannabis is legal, Marijuana is not. Just how stupid can we go?
Well yes, all of it. There should be absolutely nothing on the books about it. Are we buying tomatoes at a dispensary?!? I don’t think so. Why on earth are people ok with doing it with weed? Makes no sense to me.
Everytime someone is all excited because their state goes legal…um, no you fool, now you just have more charges against you for growing…irs and taxes now, blah blah blah. It’s all a lie about being legal, and fools are lapping it up like the lap dogs they are.
Yes, that is why I no longer hope for legalization at all.
Imposing ridiculous regulations and layers of bureaucracy in order to control
and protect consumers is way too heavy handed and only serves the Governments interest inextending it’s power and control. Governments are quite adept at becoming larger and more intrusive.
Anyway, I have been growing for over 50 years, and I will simply carry on with what I have been doing. I will never grow legally, and I don’t care anymore.

As a person who had his house raided for weed and is still waiting on a pardon over a decade later I am pretty happy with legalization in Canada. Sure it brought a bunch of other garbage with it but the fact than I can now legally smoke a joint in 90% of the country is pretty amazing. I also carry a prescription and am a licensed medical grower but still pretty stoked with the change.

Here in Nebraska, a laundry list of drugs, including more than 150 pounds of marijuana, 20 pounds of cocaine, 10 pounds of fentanyl, 9 pounds of heroin and 3 pounds of meth, along with various pills, went missing from the State Patrol’s Troop H evidence facility in Lincoln, officials announced at a news conference Sept. 24.
“Many of the state’s licensed marijuana businesses are bending or breaking the rules – and have been since California’s legal adult-use market launched in 2018 – because there’s so little profit to be had by operating lawfully.”
