another one…the story is just beginning. Will we see raids on all the existing Vancouver canna-businesses? and someone in Quebec has to sue the feds over home growing. Hundreds of saliva-testing machines are going to police - totally arbitrary with no science behind it whatsoever
Law enforcement going forward could be patchy. In August, Canada approved a device to detect levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabis’s psychoactive element, in drivers’ oral fluids.
But many large police departments will forego the C$5,000 device, Adam Palmer, president of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, told reporters on Monday.
Draeger Safety Canada, which makes the device, has shipped some units, but a two-week federal funding delay has put further orders on hold, although it expects demand for between 300 and 500 units through March, Managing Director Rob Clark said.
Canada has invested C$274 million to enforce the new laws and some provinces have allocated their own funding, but Palmer said police will not crack down on illegal stores right away.
“When the law changes on the 17th, we’re not going to see a big change overnight,” Palmer said. “Police aren’t … chomping at the bit to go out and start raiding stores.”
good thing that bud is locked up in a plastic cage! otherwise it might bite you or something
“legalization” is all about “home-growing” aka gardening to me. the commercial side seems like more of a conquest, or cultural domination, than freedom.
The Massachusetts DPH recently made this video to demonstrate what’s it’s like to buy cannabis at a dispensary here
Weird tangent on the real estate… the recent Potcast show with DJ Short has him saying that the realestate boom & rental prices in Calif. were heavily influenced by demand for grow houses by organized crime/etc.
In my 'hood I hear that’s plausible, as there’s a grow-lord landlady always interested in more houses to buy & rent nearby…mama-san OG.
3X’s street price for what looks like low-level schwag that you can only buy from corporate growers, and cops planning random roadside checkpoints to conduct dna swabs.
…Some of the many reasons why this plan did not have my vote.
Corporate takeover completed.
This is seriously front page news today. Oh thank you SO MUCH federal nanny state for permitting me to use cannabis at the campfire… in a park that I own.
Millions of visitors to Canada’s national parks can add cannabis to their camping kits
isn’t it funny how the media always worships whatever they say…of course everyone that camps & hikes has been taking cannabis with them for generations, not waiting for govt. go-ahead. I’ve read surveys of high school kids where they ask people who do not use cannaibis “why not” and only 1% answer “because it’s illegal”. Reality is that the official legality of something is barely considered by most people…
This reminds me of the early 2000’s - at one point when legalization was being debated, I saw a report that Vancouver had 76 cannabis growing shops - hydro stores - operating within city limits. Cannabis growing and selling has been a huge economic driver in Canada for years.
I stay in a ranger cabin for a night in Algonquin Park ever few years, and stash a bag with weed/papers in a piece of artwork for a lucky camper to find. It’s always gone next time I check
The article states he had 3 lbs. which is a serious f#%$^&* joint!
Maybe a little better travel preparation could have prevented this shamefulness.
D’oh.
No doubt we all would like the man & his herb to be left alone, & the ass-hat’s ejected from the planet… but c’mon… I wouldn’t walk into a rattle-snake pit with a basket-full of baby-bunnies or many other places & situations because I know that short of him picking the jury members himself, that guy is not going to convince many Mississippians that 3# is for personal use, or that he wouldn’t be at least sharing it with people. So while I wish him luck in the matter my sympathy glands are starting to dry up these days. Thief found dead in chimney? What a hassle.
