These days, Anheuser-Busch couldn’t sell a dollar for fifty cents. I’m surprised anyone would touch AB with a 40-foot pole, let alone pay money for it.
The only AB brands suffering right now are Bud Light and Budweiser, and they didn’t buy either of those. They went down the craft road…
Kind of off-topic, but it’s alarming to see that much money and power in the hands of so few. It’s fascistic. “Fascist” comes from the word “fascio”, meaning “bundle.” Consolidated power is dangerous.
good luck guys
I think the key word in that article was diversification. They want their fingers in other potentially lucrative pies, in case the cannabis market doesn’t continue to grow at the rate they hoped. On a more positive note, if there is federal legalization they’re already tapped into distribution networks.
The next big hurdle is scheduling. Once it comes off Schedule 1 (probably sometime this year or early next year, it has been said), it’ll fall under a completely different set of laws.
Keep in mind it died in a Senate committee last time (i.e. it never made it to a full vote).
I’m doubting we’ll see it this year or next. When congress comes back from recess, it’s going to be all about the budget and that will carry through to the fall season where little ever gets done, they next year the entire agenda will be taken over by both sides pushing their issues because presidential election season will be in full swing.
It’s the HHS and DEA who are working that issue. Congress has nothing to do with it. Some good being done by unelected officials for a change…the world has gone insane.
Remember, if he HHS And DEA change it, a future administration can always change it back. If congress changes it, it takes an act of Congress to reverse that.
Excellent post. Out of likes so
I don’t think they would, though. There is too much money involved in the legal cannabis market. Its scheduling is the biggest problem, by far. Once it’s off Schedule 1, the astronomical amounts of money dedicated to eradication will dry up; they won’t be able to justify huge budgets like that. In many jurisdictions, actually doing anything about it will be more hassle than cops want to deal with. Crime is up across the country, and the will (and currently do) have much bigger fish to fry.
You should have heard the moaning and whining from those who made buggy whips and buggies after cars hit the market.
I mean, they CAN shift from hemp production to medical or rec. There’s NOTHING stopping them from changing their business to make it profitable again.
“Abner and her husband originally wanted to enter the state’s medical cannabis industry but were unable to obtain one of the coveted licenses.”
“A first round of licenses aimed at increasing the number of minorities in the industry is expected to be awarded by the end of the year.”
Why is there even a limit? These Regs are so fucking stupid.
