Clones through the mail

I’m not advocating summer clone shipping, but after I received healthy unrooted cuts that sat in a PO over a long 4th of July weekend, and most of them rooted, I don’t have a problem sending them out in a Flat Rate Priority box, even in a heatwave.

The PO’s and distribution centers are air conditioned, and it’s usually just a short ride with a carrier. As long as the recipient knows they’re coming, and the cuts don’t have to sit in the sun, I haven’t seen a problem, and I’ve sent out a bunch.

Sent one recently to Texas… it was really, really, really hot

Agree!!!
I was concerned in january but realize that my mail hardly sees an uncontrolled environment and the cooler weather is way more friendly than 100°+F!

would be interesting to see if someone would ship say a sensorpush or similar device through the mail to a few different locations and see what temps would be for specific times of year. i could see some of them getting into the 110-130 degree range sitting on the tarmac in some airplane belly stuck in line for takeoff. then all of a sudden its 20 degrees(edit google says its -40f) 30k feet in the air within a few minutes.

I really could care less what other people do but me personally I like to wait when the weather is cooler…I know for a fact that it would really suck if you were the recipients and found that the cuttings didn’t survive…it happened to me more than a few times…been doing this for close to 20yrs. folks…not willing to take that chance specially if your shipping/recieving clone only strains…

Ha, I wasn’t trying to talk you into it. But for others, just saying from my experiences, success is possible… and pretty easily if I can do it, lol!.. for a fact

Had some rooted clones make it this summer shipped in 105 degree heat ended up showing up 6 hours later then normal time was a bit pissy and took a minute to recover but both survived these plants are pretty damn Resilient

Also no problem shipping clones or snips in the summer here. Priority was used. Personally I wouldn’t worry about it either.

FWIW, I shipped quite a few clones out to people this summer. I was worried about the heat but went for it. I think all but maybe 2 or 3 cuttings never cloned. But that’s not bad out of the amount I have sent.

I used Natures Good Guys multiple times and have good luck. They always ship with cold packs and wrapped in insulation paper towels. Never had one show up that wasn’t still cool. I just get hypoaspis miles predator mites and gnats are never seen. In soilless I takes spoons full from a bag with plenty of them and transplanted them to other bags and even 5” square pots moms are in and in few weeks the reproduce and keep whatever container they are in gnat free 100%.

Overnight USPS really helps in hot weather. Had stuff sent from west coast to Midwest in summer heat but main thing to me is to not let it sit in mailbox when it’s delivered. Get a delivery text alert and get it inside where it’s cool immediately. I’ve had good luck like that but It can be a little pricey at $40-50 depending.
