I’ve always been curious to see if there is a noticeable difference between these two products. Besides the physical differences with Clonex being a gel and Hormex being a powder, I wonder if the amounts of IBA make a noticeable difference when it comes to cloning products. I’ve always read and heard of people just using pure water to get cuttings to root so I think that is going to be my next study. As of now, I have taken 10 clones with 5 of them being Hormex and 5 of them being Clonex. I use the “old school” method of putting cuttings into Rockwool that has been soaked for 3 days in a solution that has been consistently aerated over those 72 hours. With that being said, I feel this observation can only be merited towards this method as using sprayers or bubblers might cause the powder to wash off. In 14 days ill report back with HOPEFULLY, all 10 of them rooted, but we shall see…
I dip the cutting in gel then dip it in powder. I’ve found some cuttings prefer the gel over the powder and some prefer powder over gel. Using the two together is best of both worlds.
Honestly, Clonex has always been my safety blanket so I am venturing out with the Hormex. I figure that they make this specific one for cannabis so im hoping it works better. I think the gel has a better application meaning that the gel “seals” the fresh cut better than the powder does.
Heres a pic of some nugs I just pulled out to test. A friend is letting me use their new DSLR so I thought hey why not…
This is Doc Dank Seeds Tony Rocky Horror (TPR x BCK)
Nice. I need to be cloning a lot so interested in results. I got to figure out this 64site. Also hows that useful smoke? Lot of good stuff coming out his crosses from what i hear. Now he has a A.S.S.X 79xmas bud sounds up my alley. I got a bb n choc cut thats mean out of his stuff.
Ditto @Mongobongo - Local grower suggested I use both. It works. But nothing to compare.
I sucked at cloning until I found the “DJM Coco Tree’s Thread” method on IC.
Curious to see how this turns out. Personally I’ve never noticed any real differences between brands, gels/powders etc. Used to have great results with stimroot liquid as well.
Its great stuff. Smells like musky oranges and the high is delightful. A nice cerebral high which envelopes you like a warm blanket but isn’t debilitating and the smoke is thick. He dropped some new stuff with old bodhi crosses in it that im really interested in.
well its past the horn so to speak, and only had those ones die off. Currently, its a tie on which one produces roots faster and better… I normally have visible roots around 12 - 14 days, so if anything itll be interesting to see if either of them trump that.
Well, almost all the plants have rooted and if there is a difference, I cant really notice it. I would say I notice that the hormex had SLIGHTLY more roots and they were seen like a day earlier (more like 16 hours). So all in all, I dont think there is much of a difference between these products and any of these observations could be due to where the cut was taken from, and other plethora of factors. Next time around I am going to do a full tutorial and do a comparison between these two products and just straight up water.
