(Closed) Sour Diesel Seed Run

Love the dialogue on the strain lineage. I was gonna reference that recent potcast interview as well @api312 thats the basis for my understanding of the story as well, but I’ve never read that HT article, gonna have to give that a few more read through a as well. @HappyTrees23s your description of the Sour and it’s effects is spot on from what I remember getting where I grew up too, nowhere near NYC, so many fond memories associated with that herb whether it was the real deal or not!

I agree haha as long as it’s that sour I used to have then I don’t really mind much what it’s called.

I do love knowing the origins of seeds and their history thou. It’s upsetting that story’s change and history is lost over pride. But that’s how it goes.

Anyway here’s the article if you want to check it out. It was fairly interesting, talked a little on some of his strains and what it was like in the past.

I’m the same way, love nerding out on the provenance and history of different varieties, especially the older building block lines. I’ll definitely have to read that article and compare to what I know from the potcast episode, thanks for sharing! :v:t2:

Heres a podcast from the original gang, from about 7 years ago. I love discussing the Chem line.

Go about 1:01:00 to get to the interview.

Nice plants…
One doubt though…
Wouldn’t keeping the outside sensors benefit more instead of throwing them…?
You can have readings from two spots in the same tent?

Lol, nawwww, I have my inkbird thermostat sensor hooked up to my heater and it gives a reading on the other side of the tent. A few degrees difference from one side to the other really doesn’t make a difference in the grow, they grow outdoors where wind direction changes and temperatures fluctuate, and for making seeds, as long as they look happy they will produce nice healthy seeds.

I’m a firm believer that people have too much control. I get awesome results with temp fluctuations and ph ranging from 5ph - 8ph. Also, it causes me less stress too not worrying about that stuff too much.

My flower room is a little more steady and controlled, but its not entirely necessary imo

Oh man I wish I’d been around earlier! I’ve never had the real deal Sour D, grew a white label “chemdawg” once that turned out piney. Tried out Beanhoarders SourDxSSH which leaned heavy to the ssh side in terms of taste and aroma but had the viney floppy growth of the Sour D. The closest I’ve been was a tester cross of Headbanger x Orange Pink Grapefruit, definite sour in that one but wasn’t very potent and no diesel. I hope adding myself to the Overflow list was acceptable.
Watched the Chem episode with riot and notsodog and that got my mind going about finding some Chem and some Sour, hoping they do an episode on the Sour.

Dude at 1:11:14 he says Chem 91 and NY Sour Diesel are the same thing. That the Chem 91 was called NYC Sour Diesel in NYC
That’s kind of what I was thinking.
That makes me feel confident the Chem 91 used for this cross was in fact the Sour I had.
BUT
now on the other interview members said they claimed it to come from a different source. So now I need to watch the pod cast above.

And in the high times article TDS says he traded Sour D to Chem Dog for a Chem D cut. So he obviously new the two were not the same.

So possibly this strain from top dawg is NY Sour Diesel (or what New Yorkers called the Sour Diesel) or a cut of it (Chem 91) crossed to Super Skunk.

And from what I can find online, Sour Diesel is thought to be a Chem 91 x Skunk soooo I’m starting to feel I understand where all the confusion is coming from.

The cross for this run is called or defined as Sour D, BUT the Chem 91 itself was called NY Sour Diesel in NY where I lived. So others Chem 91 is what I called Diesel in NY…maybe.

And even more confusing is ali312 said there was a Sour D strian before the time of the Chem D which I honestly believe to be true. But I wish it wasn’t cause it adds to the confusion even more.

I think even in that High Times article above TDS says he had Sour D in 2000s and traded it to Chem Dog for the Chem D. I may be reading that wrong, but he had both Sour D and Chem 91 at the same time.
BUT
On the streets the Chem 91 was already called the Sour.
So maybe he was passing out both and people got confused back then so they were both just called “Sour”
I hate that it bothers me to not know. Its like it doesn’t matter as long as its good weed, but my mind is like “well is it sour or isn’t it?!”

So now I feel more confused then I was before I started writing this :joy:

Alright I’m gonna go listen to the pod cast now.
I just thought I would share that for anyone interested haha

Well I just heard both AJ and Chem say the NYC Diesel is the Chem 91 and that’s its always been. AJ agreed there would be no Sour Diesel without the Chem Dog cause the Sour Diesel Named Strain came from that unknown accidental Chem cross in station island.
I learned a ton about the Chem Strain from that show.
Anyone besides me who’s interested in the history and backstory should definitely watch it starting at around 1:01:00
Thank you
@DefNSmokn
And thank you @api312
and @LegsMahoney
and of course @Jinglepot
For all the info, links, history, opportunities.

I would have been up all night searching again if I didn’t find some conclusion. My mind works that way for some reason and it’s kinda bad. If I have a question or I know I’ve read something somewhere then I need to find the book or article I read it in, or I need to find the answer to the question, or I will be constantly searching till I do.
As it is it’s already 4:30am now and I just spent almost 3/4 hours searching for something that really in the end dosnt matter if I knew or not. My mind just wanted to know before it could shut off.
So much info and history thou.

But yeah im satisfied haha I may have been off in the years I smoked it so I think I’m at fault for the timeline error. Chem 91 is the one I want from my past sold as Diesel.
I definitely cant wait for this. Goodnight OG

The fact that it was SO long ago, and since we, and the original ChemDog crew are all stoners… doesnt help the memory. Lol a lot of things were not written down back then so its all just stoner memory… either way this is the most intriguing, IMO, lineage of all cannabis strains.

One thing to keep in mind about street names is they change according to what is moving the fastest.
I’ve literally watched guys change the name from day to day.

Everything looks great . More cheers from the sidelines :tada::tada::tada:

dude, i’ve been watching this while working, a cool bonus is the story on Charlotte’s Web. i always heard the claims that those dudes pimping it out actually lifted it from someone, pretty rad to hear about the lineage; Soma’s Reclining Buddha and something called The Cream out of ohio which was Jack Herer and SSH. cool story.
