(complete) OGer, the Encore

Sometime down the road… in the fullness of time…
You know those two sister lines will be crossed…

They are perfect for each other.

No worries gonzo
Didn’t take it as a smart ass at all lol
But thank you for correction
I don’t know why I punched in critical mass I think because this strain was in a mix pack I was going to purchase haha

@Gpaw that counting tray looks like a major time saver! Was it originally for counting pills (in a pharmacy)? Might have to try and find one for myself.

Also, I noticed that I am on the sign-up list twice. once at TL3#33 (one of my lucky numbers, keep this one) and also at TL3#48.

I am going to edit the wiki to delete the 2ed (3:48)…

Thanks for doing this run for us all!

:robot:

P.S. the nug shots of that last Chiral looks frosty and super colorful!!! :fire: :fire: :fire:

Wrap-up of the OGer the Encore Co-op seed run

Well that was a fun ride!

I got to try out new tek and update some toys… I mean ‘tools’…

I found the limits to safe pollen handling (…treat it like weaponized Ebola… )

I definitely need to tweak a couple protocols, but all in all this was a good run.

I averaged a little north of 2,000 beans per mother.

The OG Kush packs are marked 1:1:1 (yeah… it seemed like a good idea at the time…) and the quantity is 18, so that’s 6 seeds from each mother. This represents an even cross section of the preserved genetics of this line.

I manifolded these plants for breeding purposes and they responded well. Based on seeded bud size, the sensi buds should be ‘Big and Bouncy’.

The side project also turned out well.

That was a feminized Dinafem Critical Plus crossed with the OG Kush pollen. When I dug a little deeper I found that this cross was called Critical Kush. So this is my recreation of it.

These beans will be turning up ‘here and there’…

One thing I thought about…

The mother was feminized, I assume S1. Then the mother’s genetics will be very controlled. The father(s) were nearly ‘carbon copies’ of each other, coming from basically an IBL line. Taking these factors into consideration I think the prodgeny should be very uniform

OG Kush Parent stock

I started with 12 seeds from MongoBongo’s batch and 14 from Barefrog; of which 11 and 5 popped respectively.

There were 3 more casualties in the Barefrog group reducing to a total 2

(…thank you Canada Post and your Rollers of Death )

The breeding group of 13 members were reviewed and culled as they grew - until I had 3 females and 2 males.

MB2, #1 male

good branching, good structure, better colour

MB7, # 2 male

slow start but finished strong

{
‘hard at work’ :arrow_heading_down:

BF1, #1 female

good branching, good structure, good colour

seeds: 1200/1200 (MB7/MB2)

good terps

BF2, #2 female

good branching, good structure, good colour

good terps

seeds: 1600/1200 (MB7/MB2)

MB4, #3 female

good but less vigour, maybe a week slower than BF1 & BF2

seeds: 1200/1600 (MB7/MB2)

(NB 4x finger hash)

Special thanks to Barefrog for volunteering that pack, the survivors were the best.

Here’s a group shot of the 3 girls. Top Left BF2, Top Right is MB4, Bottom Right is BF1

Here’s the difference a week makes

Great stuff and great job.
You absolutely killed it :+1:

Thanks!

The plants are highly modified from natural but characteristics shine through.

I’ll put up a mess of photos in the next few day to further document the plants.

Great job on your run. Thank you! Thank you for adding in some details on your side project also. Critical has caught my interest lately and here you are offering up your experience. Perfect

Well thanks folks, I truly appreciate the praise… It’s quite humbling actually…

I knew at the start I wanted to have a summation at the end of the log to characterize the parent plants. That way, ‘down the road’, there would be a reference for folks to check the family characteristics etc.

I’m glad you folks like the format!
It’s been a real honour to do this run for the Overgrow community and be able to give a little back.

Hey @Gpaw,
Thanks so much for the summary wrap up! I’m copying that one directly into my Seed Logbook for reference when I get the chance to grow out your beans.

I’ll just add my accolades for a “Best Practices” effort. I learned a lot from your well documented project. :+1: :+1: :100:

Good work @Gpaw! Those do look tasty. Manifolding looks like it was a good call. :+1:

Thank you!
I was worried about the stretch and I knew manifolding would help keep them short.
The bonus was, pollen collection was made much easier with the trained male plants.

Also, I wanted to try this technique out on a hybrid before messing with a pure sativa…

damn those look great for seeded plant can not see how they wont be even better ran for bud. just nice chunky old school looking plants. nice nice nice.

Yes even with manifolding unless you have a lot of height those sativas get out of control.

Great job with this run @Gpaw !!

Truly some of the best presentation on any run I’ve gotten to follow along with. Doesn’t hurt the plants were beautiful and the strain highly desired and awesome sounding too :raised_hands:  :star_struck:

Thanks API!

The main reason I picked that strain for the run is that it is the same great line that was getting passed around back in the Overgrow 1.0 days.

Second reason is that it is excellent breeding stock.
It is fair to say that OK Kush is in a huge number of today’s popular strains (maybe near 50%?). This line is so uniform in growing characteristics.

Everyone that wants to make seed should have this in their genetic library.
