CrunchBerries’Probiotic SIP Thread

So, I had an “ah haaaaa!” moment as I was looking at that last post.

Soooo.
One of these things is not like the other.

I took the ring that I cut off the top of the planter and used it as a spacer between the bottom and the top bucket.

This has added 1/2 gal to my bottom reservoir making it now hold 1 1/2 gal total. That should help. I’ll add that to the first since I haven’t thrown it away. :+1:

I used 3gal of dirt to get the plant closer to the top and that way I don’t have to worry about watering the nutrients in. There’s going to be more than enough roots up high.

im not 100% sure i got your eureka moment but if not then i got a lil eureka out of this

does your eureka involve the top 2"you took from one bucket?
i just had the idea to put it in between as a spacer to increase water capacity instead of a top guardrail

Yeah. It raised the top planter just enough for another 1/2 gallon to be added to the bottom bucket. I put some screws in to keep it from shifting around and raise it this much. I might have gone just a little farther and gained another quart of volume in the bottom.

Hey bud, would you mind if I added your tutorial to the Link Farm at the top of this thread? I don’t want such useful information to get buried. Thanks again @Maddawg for the idea to expand and put everyone’s tutorials in the Farm for easy access.

I actually I have one tip to add to that if y’all don’t mind.
I would super saturate the LAB with brown sugar instead of molasses. The goal is to put the LAB in a hibernation state by bonding every molecule of water to a sugar while being stored.
Now if you add molasses you are adding more water as well and will be harder for the microbes to reach a equilibrium.

Great tutorial @iamyou_youareme , hope I’m not stepping on yer toes!

Good vibes :sunglasses:

@BeagleZ Do you have to add a sugar source? I’m still just keeping mine in the fridge raw. My wife loves the lack of fridge space. Ha! MTSBWY!!

Nope, not if you’re putting it in the fridge. Although it does make it more powerful and prob last longer as well.

How so? Is it the sugar source? I do add molasses to every watering.

yes, the sugar is their food… Think of them like tiny little bears in hibernation, but when they wake up they are already in a pool overflowing with salmon. they get very excited lol

So I’m good? Ha! I add the molasses to my 5 gal buckets for chlorine and chloramine.

yeah buddy, you good! :+1: :+1:

@CrunchBerries this is going to take a bit of time to study! :exploding_head: it’s like a real course in school and I just skimmed your first post!

Ha! Yeah it’s a bit thick, but I wanted to have a central repository of information I’ve found related to this method and organics in general. I go back to the Link Farm section often to find information, recipes, etc. Hope you find some nuggets! Feel free to ask questions and share!

The link farm does have a bunch of info and can be overwhelming but like any growing style there are all kinds of :rabbit: :hole:'s to go down.

The more you grow in any style the more you learn. At least your supposed to…

Sip’s are super easy to make and you probably have most of the items needed laying around.

Check out Testing a Sip Bucket with Leftovers

@amumayuk made a quick and easy sip to test out Sip’s with spare stuff.

If you check out the thread take a look at @Stankonia 17 gal DIY sip he made for like $18… … out the door…

Check out @MoBilly’s post  at post 1550.
He made a DIY Sip out of a used cat litter container.

Here are the basics…

I realize that it looks like all kinds of info but here is the quick dirty version.

Slap some Perforated Drain Pipe (PDP) in the bottom of a water tight container.

image

Cut a hole for the fill tube and then 1" below the top of the PDP drill a hole for overflow.
Fill with some vermiculite or perlite.

I am sure you could even just use plain ol soil like Stankonia did but I was trying to increase the reservoir’s water capacity for this little container

That’s it… Just add your quality natural Soil recipe…

Soil recipe/medium is where the :rabbit: :hole: begins…

you did great adition to it @maddawg

Evening y’all, hope things are well in your neck of the woods. Today I believe is day 5F and we are cruising along. Thought it was time for an update.

After planting, the Sun Ra and Sunshine4 became angry and stayed that way for about a week. I turned the QB96s off for a few days and whipped up a witches brew of aloe, comfrey extract, Fish Amino Acid, FulPower, Silica and good intentions. That seemed to do the trick as everything turned around. I popped the QBs back on and flipped after a few days recovery.

Edit: I added a third topdress of Crustacean, Insect Frass, Barley, Compost, Ewc, and Kashi at flip.

Sunshine4:

Sun Ra: Getting a cedar/ citrus stem rub. Vigorous, sturdy grower. Topped twice.

Space Cowboy: Love the candelabra shape. Untopped.

Black Raspberry- Razz leaner from clone.

I’ve planted some seeds and plan on popping more when space allows. So far I have Soul Mate, Sour Diesel, Dream Beaver, Lemon Wookie v2, and Copa’s Genius Thai x Appy f4 in Solos.

Be good family~ Crunchy
