Ah sorry forgot your specific plan

Certainly nothing wrong with top watering as long as you compensate maybe by lowering the usual water or less top cover? Water from both the bottom and top would have to be coordinated well to not suffocate

My understanding is this is a test run for @MoBilly .
First Sip and a DIY at that.

Not sure of the total volume of soil but I would imagine it’s only a few gallons.

I did kind of the same thing with my first SIP. The only difference was it was 26 gallons and amended with enough soil , compost, etc… to get me all the way through the grow without adding any nutes.

I did top water with 8-10 oz of molasses/water every so often though. Depending on your Sip the top can usually handle smaller mounts of liquid with out any negative effects on the feeder roots.

I am :100:% positive this is going to yield a great result and set the hook :fishing_pole_and_fish: on the use of Sip’s.
It always does

Just wait until you get a hold of some Gro-kashi, EM1, Labs etc…

Be prepared for when your ecosystem is thriving and the growth just takes off… :seedling:

I am sure the OGers using living soil with natural inputs are going to be here to assist your new adventure into the wonderful world of Sips… :bird:

and check out the beginning of this thread for some great links.

This  is a good one to start with… :rabbit: :hole: .
Make sure you pack some :carrot:'s for the trip.

Thanks for the boost in my confidence bro!
This is the difference one week made in that sad little plant.

I’d say that this plant will thrive.

I didn’t show the process of building these buckets so I took a few pictures after I got this one ready just in case you want to know what’s going on below the dirt.

and for top watering i eould suggest you let the sip res run dry and wait a day or two before top wTering and then your next watering you fill the reservoire again

That’s a very good suggestion. Thanks :+1:t4:.

its nothing but if you intend to use bottled nuts dont water till it runs out in the reservoire it could creat algae

I’m putting ~ 2 1/2 gallons of dirt per bucket. Maybe closer to 2.

if you look into build a soils chanel on youtube i think he talks about 5-10% water to soil ratio so if you have 5 gallon 10%water=2Liters (i did math strg out my head and im high correct me if wrong)

Awesome @tresbundles !

Oh yeah, one picture wasn’t posted.

I cut the top 2" off of the planter so I don’t have to use so much dirt and still have the plant sitting high enough in the thing.
