This is my second outdoor grow. Last year had all sorts of problems so so am trying to get off on the right foot. So far everything has been going good. They were popped at the end of March and put outside at the end of April. The G13 skunk is growing vigorously and I have been training it through a cage. I was thinking about defoliating but I am not sure if that is necessary with outdoor or if I should just leave it be. Would like to hear any and all opinions and experience with defoliating outdoor. Thanks!
Personally I’d still do a bit just to open things up to light and air more. Keep in mind the sun is equally strong at any distance so anything that can see the light is probably good.
I pull lower fan leaves as they yellow up from not getting enough light this also helps with air flow and potential pest deterrent when leaf branches are close or on the ground plant won’t spend extra energy to try growing the lower leaves … shave them sexy legs !
Easier to get into if ya need to spray for critters(pests) also
@Tinytuttle I have been spraying Dr Zymes on it and it is getting hard to get every spot. I Think I will start with the bottom and see how it goes.
If you live in a dry climate, probably no need, but it may be helpful to defoliate a bit to let light hit the lowers.
In a humid climate, it can be very beneficial to avoid mold/mildew by promoting airflow into the interior of a plant.
@vernal So far what I have done is take off the smaller lowers, and spread the top out a little but more. I can see through the plant now so that is where I will leave it for now. Thanks!
Looks good to me brother, wouldn’t do it any different. Plenty of air circulation in there.
Is that G13/Skunk from Dominion Seeds?
@PlantShepherd it is Mr Nice
Right on! I have grown it from Dominion and it was amazing. Hope the Mr. Nice version is equally as awesome!
I just opened mine up completely. Cleared out the inside branches. More light and more importantly, air flow. I have average 68% humidity here, trying to cut back on chances for powdery mildew “pm” and easier to detect insects.
Looking good! Looks like you got the hang of it, those are gonna be nice big bushes!
