Does anyone sterilize their coir for reuse?

ive been using the large bulk bricks of coir for a couple runs now. i use fresh coir every time, hydrate the blocks then rinse very well until the runoff its clear. works wonderfully

the price of coir is getting absurd these days, id like to reuse it. i noticed that my plants that are vegging have the tinniest root systems. im guessing its a pest problem. i let the coir fully dry before reuse and rebuffered.

should i try and sterilize the dry coir in the oven? i feel like im over reacting. what do others do?

hmm… I find the price to be minimal, I just bought 10 5kg bricks for 12 usd each and got free shipping. On another hand I do reuse my coco, usually just once, but don’t ever sterilize it. If I had any issues whatsoever I might reconsider but have never had issues that made me feel that I need to sterilize my coco after use.

i use the small 9ltr blocks mixed with 40% clay balls and a couple of good hand fulls of vermiculite

when the plant is finished i let it dry rite out then sive out the roots dump it in a pot and run about 10ltrs boiling water through it, i normally have a few pots at a time and then just stack em with a tray on top so they cook for a bit 24-48 by that time im normally using it again
evry now and then and a new block and i recharge it with insect fras and cal mag before pottin

I just rinse “flush” real well and recondition with maybe 1/8th and hit with a good shot of Cal Mag.

if you’re that worried about sterilization I would just rinse your medium with hypochlorus acid 5-10ml per gallon depending on concentration of acid you get. a gallon is about $20 on Amazon and goes quite a long way. let your coco dry out and reuse. Maybe drop in some epsom salt when you go to rehydrate. I don’t use cal/mag to buffer.
