European Seed Companies appreciation thread

Which trend do you mean? The existence of local varieties?

Not so much because no place has really had commercial breeding for the past 30 years on the scale of the Europeans

More sort of regional clusters that don’t draw much on the genetics of other regions.

I would guess yes to this.

This fascinates me. I’d assumed that the world was a mix of all kinds of weed due to online sales, etc. Realizing there are distinct pools of genetics based on geographical and cultural differences is an eye opener.

In the mid 00s on, a lot of euro breeders and seed banks had their stocks seized or lost. They started the practice of using different generations, outcrosses, or just straight up white labeling seeds.

That isn’t to say they all suck, but the reason is not because new growers do not know how to grow. It is because there were many seizures and crackdowns, and American genetics progressed much faster in some areas.

Also, it’s important to note that the American/Canadian cannabis market sells a lot of flower, whereas Europe has had a lot of access to hash from the hash producing countries like Morocco etc

I’ve read that the US government has done the same with wild hemp. Because of their eradication efforts is is thought that a lot of genetic diversity has been lost.

A lot of work nowadays is also based on genetics from many places but particularly Neville and other seed sellers in the Dam

So we do stand on the shoulders of European giants, lol

Thank you! I learn something new on OG everyday.

All the work that is done in North America has to start with genetics that at one point, generally, did not come from NA. That isn’t to say north American varietals don’t exist, but the majority is going to come from seeds that were collected or sold in other countries. The history is pretty interesting. A lot of rebels and rogues.

I agree with you about Barney’s ten years ago. I had good luck with some of their seeds.
8 Ball Kush was a beautiful plant, and smelled really nice. And grew to a huge size.IMG_1902|375x500

And that was a 20 gallon pot, and yes it needed a bigger one. I had to tie her down for the wind would dump it over. Even fully watered.
But I had no idea it was going to get that big.
I read the package and like I said before?
The words never matched the size only.
Was a frosty one as well.
I can’t find the close up of it.
No idea what the genetics :dna: are in it however. Someone said Hindu Kush? I am still learning and have no idea.
I liked it a nice calm ride that most folks liked.
That plant was grown in south western Ontario Canada :canada:.
Barney’s had some good strains, but that my idea. :grinning:
Many I am sure say otherwise! I already heard!
Today the seeds are most probably not the same as back then?
I think Barney’s would get their seeds from the same place that went down with Dinafem.
Dinafem had really nice seeds in my opinion that is. :grinning:
Perhaps that’s why they are not the same as other people have said. Not sure but to each their own. I like other seed companies but I will keep them to myself.

That photo is also in the end of August, it started to bloom on the first day after June 21. The longest day of the summer. Can’t remember the name of that date right now.:rofl::rofl::rofl:
Was a beautiful plant, at least to me.
I just let it grow the way it wanted to. I regret not pruning it. But I like to see what they look like left alone the first grow. I never weighed it. But I got 31 one Litre/ Quart jars from it.
Smelled like lemon pledge. Was super easy to grow. I would grow it again.

Hey all you European members. I’m interested in your options on KC Brains, specifically the most recent releases of Mango regs. Does anyone know if they are perpetuated from the original stock or did KC Brains fall to the same fate as other banks that lost their parent stock and had to re-start? What’s the general impression of KC amoungst actual experienced Euro growers? I’m considering a project. Please feel free to PM me your insights, if you’d like to keep them confidential. Dont mean to high jack your thread @DietPeps , it just seemed like an appropriate place to ask. Thanks for your time.
