Fabric pots or holes in the ground?

Hey. I’m starting an outdoor grow. Want to do fabric pots so I can start them indoors and then when they are strong enough carry them outdoor for the rest of their life. It doesn’t need to break the bank but I don’t want the stitches to break either. Is there one brand that is better than another or is it all china same quality?

Is this even a viable strategy or am I better off digging holes in the ground putting soil in the holes and planting in the ground from seed?

I have never done outdoor before and limited indoor experience (about 4 grows).

I would start your seeds inside in 16 Oz party cups under lights and put them outside in pre dug holes when there about 6 inches tall. It doesn’t have to be expensive. I used miracle grow raised bed last year and it worked great! Plus your yields will be much higher

Im not sure how big your talking about but I pick them up all the time without incident. I have all different brands. They all can be moved. But I agree with @corey if you can put them in the ground you may get better yields.

Hooray thanks guys, I had not considered a raised bed but I can get some of those parking timbers maybe, cost of lumber has gone way up but I might make one. Good ideas thank you mucho I can’t wait I already got the soil. Going to use bagseeds just in case there’s mistakes got to get some cups. I assume cut holes in the bottom to drain in the cups? Or leave them alone?

Just poke or melt some holes in the bottom for drainage.

One easy way to make a raised bed is to use old tires. Just put them down somewhere and fill em up

Idk was thinking 8 in case some are male or pass away I appreciate you but would rather not say location.

It all depends on what would work best for your situation. Bags are great but the main thing is once the plants get big they require every day watering, in the dirt not so much, a good soaking will make you good for days. Can you water daily? I wish I could do raised beds with good organic soil, by a water hose…that would be ideal

I could haul water if I have to but I like the idea of bigger yields.

I’m envisioning a raised bed and maybe some fishing line around it to keep out rabbits etc.

I got a hose but the water from it is heavy with metals idk if its the best I was going to use RO water. Or rain.

i use 10-15 gallon smartpot fabric containers on our deck with no issues of bags or stitches ripping, they might stretch a touch if you use them multiple times. I use a mix of M3 and HPProMix. We have blight really bad and sinking things in the ground, or raised beds where the roots get to our natural soil makes things go sideways pretty quick. I don’t up pot after they go outside. I’m a salt feeder. My yields are a fraction of what they would be if I was able to sink them into the ground in a healthy yard, but it’s just not possible here currently.

I’m an outside grower in Michigan. I start my plants inside, then transplant the end of May right into the ground.
Plants get big, buds very heavy. I make my own soil. My field is a 30×50.

I have cages made out of 2’ tall chicken wire and some out of a 2"x4" wire that are about 3’ tall for the rabbits this year. Like tomato cages only smaller. Damn rabbits cost me a lot of plants last year

I’m putting an amended bed in at my buddies house for him. Just digging out a trench and putting 3 bags of good soil, saved egg shells and some lime in the at the bottom. All mutants going in, so should be an interesting grow

Egg shells thats cool never heard of that. This is a lot to take in I don’t know what salt feeding is have to look that up.

My ground is pretty good until about 3-4 feet down is clay, I don’t know if that’s a problem, how deep the roots need to go? If I start them this late idk how big they will get.

Just make sure it will drain. This clay around here in places will really hold water if you dig a hole and put good soil in it

Personally I prefer keeping them in The pots for outdoor so far, living in Michigan as well, though I like keeping in pots or the canvas pots so they are mobile so I can follow the sunlight but thats due to being in town and having few spots that get full light all day without being out in open and plainly visible.

I use bottled nutrients, I can’t manage compost due to physical limitations and allergies.

That’s some deep topsoil! Should work out great

I put all my egg shells in the blender then straight in the garden or composter
