👨🏽‍🌾 Farmer Pigeonman (OR): How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Indoor Growing

DELAYED but another MEGA UPDATE none the less.

The hugelkultur pile thawed out and I’m chuffed! All the winters compost and indoor gardening has filled it in beautifully so I hope the spring showers work it all deeper into the woodpile and hold that moisture in to start breaking down the thick as fuck logs in there.

I say this first as this weekend I was finally able to address it as all the snow is gone and that this past few weeks have been rife with either culling of males/hermies and/or the eventual end of a life cycle.

This meant a lot of humic substances for the pile of rotting wood to support more plants this season!

Photo’s of my pile with come later in the week, but if anyone reading doesn’t know what I’m talking about:

Upstairs to downstairs in this update.

Mendo Breath S1: Cannasia:

To say “it’s coming along” would be a big understatement… It’s FANTASTIC and rather intimidating as fuck to be honest. :open_mouth: . The solo cup is 16oz, the bottle is 1gal (3.8L), the 5.5" pot’s volume is 2 litres.

The now forever to be known as the “Relative to Size Titanium Spork”.

And what’s an amazing plant without some drama? So I added drama to avoid other drama.

I’m building a mini cloner to fit into my propagation tent and then I’m gonna trim down the Mendo Breath and use the cuttings to test the cloner. Anything that comes out of the test will end up in 1L air-pots and run right away at 12/12 as i REALLY WANT TO TRY AND SMOKE MENDO BREATH ALREADY

Mexican Death Sativa - Male:

Same deal different plant; and not making light of it because this bastard is one of my favourites in the entire room! The solo cup is 16oz, the bottle is 1gal (3.8L), the 5.5" pot’s volume is 2 litres.

Referential spork time:

The Mother plants (UK Cheese, Pink Cookies, Gelato 33, & Kosher Kush) after a trim and spray down.

On the shelf under this are my **Meyer Lemon, Key Lime and Calamondin Orange citrus trees; a Red Amaryllis, and Squirt: the Peyote Cactus:

Squirt has been with me since around 1998 and is finally getting bigger again! Thanks for the :cactus: tips @lophophora.ca to help me with my “old man” :hugs: .

Heading downstairs into the troll-cave / garden…

The AC Infinity tent has some changes inside again. I’ve up-potted both the Manitoba Poison - Female and UK Cheese - Clone 1 into green-bottom air-pots (3.5 gal / 12.5 L). This is their last up-pot inside before going into 30 gallon net pots for the summer. The male MP and other UKC clone will stay in the smaller pots until I figure out when the GG4 RIL is done and I’ll take the male MP into flower to grab some dust for a branch of summertime seed chucking and OG gift giving.

UK Cheese - Clone 1:

Training lines are off. I’m gonna see what it decides to do and then tie down as per needed :+1: .

**UK Cheese - Clone 2:

Manitoba Poison - Female:

She’s in training. I may take off the top shoot eventually but it’s two leaves are providing food so they stay for now.

Manitoba Poison - Male:

It want’s to flower SO HARD. I need to pick off  's every 3-4 days!!!

Swinging over to the Medicine Cabinet - 2x4

We have some losses and we have one new plant-kiddo; so is the cycle of life. 1x Earth Lover CBD AutoFem went hermie so it’s gone, and the Freedom Dream CBD showed balls as it pre-flowered even though it’s under 18/6 lighting  I’ll pop more of those in the week as I was looking forward to see what it can produce.

The addition is a lone Black Snow, that I do hope is female as I can’t run it as a male right now :crossed_fingers: .

ACDC CBD - Plant 2:

Crinkle-crinkle but deep-green and doing well. I need to top them both tonight.

ACDC CBD - Plant 3:

Same crinkle; i’m not sure if this is what the plant naturally expresses, the low humidity, or something i’m missing  .

Black Snow:

@HeadyBearAdventures , it’s happening! Looking forward to seeing yours do it’s thing. :fist:

CBD OG Kush:

Of all the CBD plants in the cab this is the one I know i’m looking forward to. All but 1 of the Kush strains I have had access to have helped my partner immensely so this one having under 1% thc means a lot of good things can potentially happen if my readings are on par. .

Earth Lover CBD AutoFem:

I’m not sure how much this will stretch and fill out but I am looking forward to anything it wants to do for us.

Now the 4x4!

Happy plants on week 6 of flower… wow, time flies when you do a lot at once :mantelpiece_clock:

CSI Humboldt’s Girl Scout Cookies x Chem91 S1 - Orange Airpot - Green Pheno:

This one is a looker with big fat frosty nugs that smell like candied flowers with hints of floral perfume anytime I move it.

CSI Humboldt’s Girl Scout Cookies x Chem91 S1 - Yellow Airpot - Red/Purple ??!!:

This thing melted my heart when the colours kicked in so much I took it out of the tent and hit up it’s largest nug with a good dollop of GG4 RIL SPOOGE. Frosty + SUPER Frosty should come up with something special at minimum. :fist:

The image’s colours do not match the colours in real life; take what you see and turn the dial to 11.

Cherry Festival F2 - Red:

It’s the weirdo of the bunch as it was still in reveg when I needed to flip, but unlike the Tangie this one was less thrilled about it so it decided to let it’s freak flag fly!

Crockett’s Tangie F2:

I move it, blow on it, or even LOOK AT IT TOO HARD and the entire tent smells suddenly of oranges. It was in reveg… and WILL BE AGAIN, because this thing is INSANE and I need to ensure I get a good grafting of this on to the Mendo Cannasai!!!

BOG SourBluTooth F2 - ΩPot:

Well, this is the first run and there are bound to be issues here and there… one thing I didn’t think would happen is a burned out water pump!!! :open_mouth: It’s been off for over 1 week and I have just gotten a spare and will swap it out tonight.

Week 1 flower may not be the best time to test redundancies but hey, why not! So leaving the pump OFF for the week with the air-stones running has proven a 100% successful redundancy test!!!

Let me show you what I mean; and I remind you the pump is off and I still needed to top up the tank mid week:

YES. That lighter is standing on the canopy without any rigging :open_mouth:

I’m not sure if it will fill in the canopy in this state but i’ll weave as needed and once I know the best bud sites i’m going in to pluck a lot of green to open up airflow.

4x4 Whole Tent Shot:

Thanks for checking in! I’ll post images of the TG’s GG4 RIL tonight as I’m gonna do the final pollen collection and then cull the male and let the female do it’s thing getting fat & healthy seeds made up in those calyxes. :ok_hand:

All the very best to you, yours and your grow(s)!

:hugs: :metal: :fist:

Looking good in there, thats an interesting take on a raised garden with the logs, I have a few trees down from the last freezing rain ice storm, we had here, I might try that if we don’t sell the house this year.

Epic update! still not sure how you keep track of it all! Everything looking good

Oh hell yes @Pigeonman !
That omega plant looks like a damn topiary! Really cool to see, after the revegging process.

I’ve been interested in hugulkulture (sp?), And have heard that sometimes it retains too much moisture for plants that don’t like wet feet. Have you encountered any issues with the beds/hills? Also, are they oriented north/south to get sun over the whole day?
Phenomenal update.

 close!!

@Shadey ; I had sooo much fire-wood from collecting curb side hardwood and fruit trees over the years that due to our bird we can’t fireplace inside anymore and we don’t have an outdoor pit anymore as it rotted out and I never replaced it. So i took a pile of wood breaking down and just migrated it into a 4x8 raised bed NOW committed as a wind-break and self-sustaining system (we hope).

@BeagleZ ; I look after artists for a living so keeping weird shit organized has become a matter or survival. Basically when I do anythign I jot down a note in my online calendar and then spend some time on the weekend making sence of it all.

@HeadyBearAdventures ; this will be my first run with this hugelkultur pile. Our yard is built overtop a buried river so it’s VERY WET when it want’s to be. I’ve terraformed the area by adding the pond (collects excess water for use later by us or wildlife), raised beds (lift the plants ABOVE where the water pools; so the pooling water gets into the ground before it would oversaturate the beds).

Orientation of the lenth is east to west, so there’s a solid about of sun on either side of the pile depending. One side is AM full sun with afternoon shade, and vice-versa for the other side. So we have variations to plant; all we need to do is pay attention to what goes where.

Your posts and avatar lead me to posit that you’re a “Burner”; have you spent time in Black Rock City?

IF YOU MEAN a “burner” as someone who has embraced the social experiment of “Giving as a Way of Life.”; then YES.

But I am gratefully untied to anything do to with Burning Man.

For ever 10 people I meet that identify as part of that subculture: 1 is amazing, and we become friends… but the other 9 remind me harshly why I love humans but hate people.

I also have a love/not love relationship with that community. The principles of the experiment are sound, but the reality tends to reinforce and celebrate concepts like individualism and reinforce, or at best, ignore, structural racism and social inequality.
“Performative” is a good descriptor for that kind of behavior I think.
I certainly see you as someone who does not fit that stereotype (as much as anyone can “know” about someone on the Internet), and who has internalized and embodies justice, so I hope no offense was taken to my query! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::bear::purple_heart:
“Love and light” hippies drive me crazy… Always trying to get to the “bless you” while skipping over the “fuck you”!

You look after artists? Are you a rep? Do I need to DM you?
That was a lot of questions lol

You asked an honest question openly and without judgement or expectation of a specific answer… THAT’S HOW TO DO IT bruv!!! :fist:

I’ve been face first in cancel culture over the past decade and am unfazed because to me it’s just the vacuum being filled that was created by shitty-people-being-shitty. I’m not a shitty person so while I was around people that worried I just maintained myself while also embracing the changes being made that promote inclusivity and accessibility.

So while it’s hard as fuck to shake away the toxic shit carried over from my 80’s and 90’s upbringing it’s sooooooooo worth it to make the world a better place.

I mean, if i hold the door for you and you for me are we not both benefiting?

I’m a technical coordinator for a non-for-profit artist-run charitable arts center based in the moving image… so I get to help anyone not getting helped by the film industry to create their work.

The works could be a short film, gallery installation, film or video consolation for field or post production to darkroom work. Heck, I planted a garden we use for BOTH darkroom processing (eco developers) and in the kitchen (food/tea).

Pretty much my POV looking after the place since 2006 is “Anything and everything is possible; it’s just CAN you do it or do you need to hire out?”

Adrienne Marie Brown has a great little treatise called “We Will Not Cancel Us” that I highly recommend. Also “Emergent Strategy” is excellent.
As a child of the early 80’s myself, I look for every opportunity to unlearn.
bell hooks has also taught me much about masculinity, race, class, and gender!
