I love it. Seriously last couple years my coco grows have transformed. From good at best, to crushing.
Potted up a Green Ale and Headbanger.
@ifish
This is the stankiest of the 4 Green Ale I popped.
Only 1 quart in the res.
Dipped the net pots in separate cup of nute juice.
“Watered” them in.
LITFA
Eight is enough? Probably not.
2 gallons RO.
Plus 2grams of gypsum.
160ppm per gram, per gallon.
From a brew site. Based on my test I assume these are correct ppm numbers.
“1 gram of Calcium Sulfate in 1 gallon of water changes the salt levels by
61.5 ppm calcium
147.5 ppm sulfate
adds 153.5 ppm to the hardness.”
Can anyone verify the above? Hydrobuddy gurus?
Finally caught up. Look forward to seeing that green ale it’s been awhile. I remember seeing it fairly often for awhile over on opengrow. It always looked super dank. It was avail on seedheaven as freebies a few years back but I missed out.
Crazy about the pro mix prices in the states. It’s much cheaper up here in Canada, likely because its “mined” here and doesn’t have to be shipped nearly as far. It’s kind of the opposite for coco here. IME it’s really expensive compared to pro mix and there’s only really a few brands widely available.
I was using coco for awhile but then when the whole world basically locked down for awhile it became really hard to find any. The place that I was getting it from for a fair price closed down. I went on a wild goose chase for some but could never find any of the better brands of what they have in the states at the time like charcoir, hortgrow etc…so I ended up going back to pro mix HP. I’m still not the greatest grower but I like it, Especially at 33 cad (26 usd) a bale :p. The bags of coco are much smaller at the stores around here and cost 26-30 bucks anyways for much less.
@Papalag That’s interesting about re using it. I’ve always been too paranoid to re use the pro mix because I have no idea if the lime that’s keeping the pH from going super low would run out. I might try using my used stuff for some herbs or lettuce before tossing it in the backyard like usual.
I’ve also been interested in playing around with using gypsum in the grow medium. I’ve been following an agronomist who has traveled the world to all types of different grows and crops and a lot of the fixes they employ seem to use gypsum. There’s a lot of good info scattered on his Instagram and some pretty interesting before and after pics.
Hi @neogitus
My first encounter with the Green Ale.
Hope I can do it justice.
Bummer you are having trouble getting your coco fix.
I’ve learned shipping to/from Canada can be costly.
Seems shortages may be with us for some time.
Fingers crossed with this grow. Lots of 1sts.
Love promix and would 100% use it if I hadn’t switched to flood and drain.
Hrmm. Now I’m doubting my calculation.
I show around 60Ca/50S
Lol my ppm is always different from ya’ll’s calculations. I go by the angelfire calc too🤷🏼
Hi neo I’ve done it a few times this year I also used it with all our outdoor plants ( flowers that is , and my herb garden with zero issues )
Paps
Happy camper… So far no problems with Promix hp!
Just thinking out loud but has anybody tried using aquarium test kits to measure alk, CA, etc?
What is the upper limits of sulphur a plant can take. Hrmm
I went with angelfire also. Sadly can’t use that in my setup.
Not sure. It’s not on Mulder chart.
I just finished reading his thread on ICMag for the second time. It makes much more sense after reading Tiedjens, Astera, and Somolom.
2 more showed up.
I have lost count of the Octopups.
Only the coco/perlite packed Octopups suffered Mg defs while rooting. Recovering now.
The Promix Hp packed pups are doing fine.
Still touch and go until I see more roots droppin
Still all under a single 315w cmh for now. 3x3 tray.
16 plants in the tray!
The plant look very happy
2 more octopups oh boy let the show begin
