I am a little new here but am giving a thought to my “winter” grow. I know, ahead of schedule. Planning makes perfect? Lol. So, how do I go about the recording process. I do have what I think will be a starting point.
I’d like to know what’s considered good practices here as well.
It’s individual preference really. But, you can get a lot of ideas from other grow logs here. Some examples may be more aligned to how you think, formatting, what information you’d like to convey.
One thing I’ve learned is, I forget. And keeping track of things by logging dates / quantities / etc regularly. But I’m mostly in a bound notebook type of person. An additional benefit, if you really kill it (many months later), you know how to do it again later
I know, not terribly helpful. But seriously, take a look at the current logs. Something will speak to you and if you can understand what they are doing and how, it’s a good start. And, add your personality.
Main post its nice to have your grow details so anyone can reference.
Size of space, lights and what you run them at power and distance, ventilation, media choice, watering system if any, pot size, base nutrients.
Then as it goes along it handy to have details of what day the plants are on and or if you made any changes or at what concentration your running your nutrients as its handy to look back on when needed, and just general details of how things are going and or what you want to chat about.
As for pictures just general shots with upclose when needed, typically those that post 10000 photos of every plant once a day i personally just skip through, info overload …
Most important: FUN
Don’t skimp on the details.
The more thorough you are, the more you can learn in retrospect later on.
And the more others can learn from you.
and that ^^^
And for the love of all that is holy, use capital letters, punctuation and paragraphs.
When I see a block of text without commas or points I don’t even begin to read.
I had no idea when I started here as well, but I just went for it my first time.
I started with my setup, so medium used, equipment, nutrients, location, and any other details I was planning for my grow.
I try to include some pics with most update posts, unless its only been a day or so, and I am just jotting down my thoughts.
From there, talk to people, in your thread and in others, and you start to get a feel for information that people are interested in. If you need help with something, or you are currently evaluating different options, posting about it can get you some input from others.
I also like to make sure I post when I make a change. If I have a problem in my grow, I post about how I plan to try and address it. If I flip the lights to 12/12, I post it, so I can refer back and confirm how long my plants have been in flowers.
This is just my way of posting, and I am still learning myself.
Here is a thread I started for giving away a template to log your grow as far as daily chores. Feel free to download it……
Thanks all. I got some direction and ideas now.
My first log I just started blathering away and posting pictures.
A little later, I realized while reading other folks’ logs, some were presenting in a ‘more readable fashion’ than mine so I adjusted.
As @Rogue said " Most important: FUN"
Anything that you find tedious becomes ‘work’ so find whats best for you.
