Happy thanksgiving?

Here in canada we celebrate thanksgiving a month early. Im thankful everyday for the food and life i live, But i think we should recognize the 95-114 million indigenous people that got murdered for us to live where we live today. Christopher columbus started a genocide and today we celebrate.

Yeah, some people suck.

I’m thankful for Greenpoint Seeds and Fleur du Mal Seeds, as well as Demeter Genetics. Thankful for family, fresh air, good food. Even when life sucks it’s great. Thanks for keepin’ me, mom.

As Canadians, we have a somewhat different history with our First (?) Nations exploitation by colonialists. We didn’t practice genocide as overtly as our southern neighbours. Lives lost here were more a direct result of disease (smallpox) than direct conflict with first nations. Yes colonialist past was distasteful from a modern point of view but as a natural progression of European development, why and how can I correct or be blemed for the mistakes of our ancestors. Africa Asia and the new world quaked under the feet of human advancement. Conquer or be conquered was the rule of the day. I would say that our first nations also established their territories thru conflict and war, without a cohesive plan of co-habitation and advancement of their collective nation. So everybodies scrambling to chart and fence off their piece of the world, and the greatest military machine wins. Today, first nations peoples have every right any Canadian has PLUS a whole lot more. First Nations have special rights, taxpayer funded shame payments and various forms of self rule. Yes they have a beef with historical treatment, but when I have to pay my share of the upcoming billion dollar settlement, I sometimes would like the perpetrating nations (AND corresponding ROYAL families) to pay them, NOT ME, because this will never end. Its the foot soldiers paying for the actions of royalty. More blackmail payments for being a WHITE MAN. Why should my children suffer for this? Reverse rascism won’t take away the problem, which is after all just a greed and money issue. Masquerading as a human rights cause.

Oh ya I’m thankful that I can celerbate the fruits of my labour with my family on a paid day off. Thank you modern society for a secular holiday celebrating mother earths willingness to provide us with sustenance. We don’t celebrate Columbus Day here, thankfully.

I dunno how old you are, but that attitude it’s great to have… Cheers man!

American Holocaust: D. Stannard (Oxford Press, 1992) – “over 100 million killed” “[Christopher] Columbus personally murdered half a million Natives”

The above phrase is from your 2° link, Lotus…
La idea esta muy bien. Pero las barbaridades histĂłricas sobran.
@lotus710, in the all Colón’s life, he wasent able even to see a half million of Amerindians … I think ever not Cortes, Alvarado, Pizarro, De Almagro, Quesada, De Landa, Coronado n De Soto all toghether cold not killed (comandin all his conquistadores n Amerindian allied) couldnt killed one half million people…

@lotus710, how many people lived in América in 1492? 200 millions? 500 millions? 1000 millions?.. This is a big historical error, I think… in all América werent livin no more than 60 millions people when Colón arrived to Bahamas first time…
