I must add that I did flush the old mix with H202 to kill off anything bad (or let’s say “in hopes of”) but next year I’m going to toss the 2 year used mix into the compost and on beds; and then mix the 1 years used with fresh BX and add worm castings to account for the trace minerals missing in the used media.
That is the beauty of organics, the plant only has to take what it needs.
Pro mix is a good starter mix and is easily recyclable with added amendments.
Cooking time also balances out any poor proportioning of amendments, more is def better.
As for using any peat based products, peat disintegrates after a grow or two and needs replenishing.
I also add composted pine bark in equal proportions to peat and perlite.
Like to get lava pumice in 3/16ths size, haven’t found a local source.
HP has additional perlite in it.
There are two types of lime in most ProMix blends.
Regardless, I always add a little bit more dolomite lime for my ganja grows.
I have never used any cal-mag product, and never had any deficiencies.
I prefer the BX for my non cannabis containers.
FWIW, I tried SUPERthrive many years ago, and I never noticed any benefit whatsoever.
Just my experience
lol
The true “steaming pile”!
My first composts were turned every 3 days and finished in 3 weeks.
Later on I found that some beneficials I wanted take 2 weeks of no turning to get established.
So I cut it to two turnings / 90 days.
I’ve rarely used Superthrive as a standalone, and with that, there may be some efficacy placebo in play. I can say I haven’t had any luck using it with cuttings. On the other hand, it’s brought back some sickly houseplants, but what’s to say a standard high nitrogen nute wouldn’t have done the same
Very appreciative of the insight provided by all. One of my biggest takeaways is many of you utilize Promix for your organic grows. Had no idea it was so popular in that regard, but it makes sense
Bro
Use pro mix ph in 1 gals for breeding… seedling to 5 nodes has enough regular water/ mollasses.
Then start to use a 3 part micro grow bloom, and cal mag.
This is my go to for many years now. I tried the organic version but wasn’t as happy with its performance.
I start seeds in it with nothing added and when the feeder leaves AKA podbusters start to fade they get up potted into it mixed with a few organic amendments added . All Gaia green brand .
This is what I’m working with
HP Pro Mycorrhizae & Gaia Green nutrients is what I built my No Till Bed base off of lol
I’ve been using pro mix for decades. Tried all the different variations and found… not a huge difference between them. I prefer to have mycos. I do like a little extra perlite. I used to do strictly pure blend pro straight through. Now I create a living soil and just water. Never needed cal mag. Also do like a little xtra dolomitic limestone.
Joel T. @ Remo Nutrients swears up and down that the comercial hp has a starter fert in it, label says no…but he claims they have done tests on it…
I do not think it has starter ferts and even emailed premier , was told no . But Joel T. insists lol
I use hp. Plus when i can get it… Joel T. said with Remo its all or nothing and you cant use Pro mix with Remo Nutrients, so when i start back up again I guess no more Remo nutrients
If you do add perlite do it outside and wear a mask or at least hold your breath and stand upwind.
What’s his rationale here?
Absolutely. I’m not big on inhaling tiny perlite particles. It can be messy stuff. I generally rinse it also before it gets used.
I had a overdose of nitrogen while using Remo nutes, the od was just one plant, pheno when i asked what i could cut to reduce the Nitrogen , he blamed the pro mix commercial hp, saying it had ferts in it, so he says if i want to use remo nutrients i have to change my media, my ph up and down and cant usae anything else with there products or it will not function correctly, funny how the ad says works with all systems. his exatct words in the email “with Remo its all or nothing”
only thing i used besides Remo was a enzyme SLF100
That’s a real shame. Sounds like a lot of deflecting without providing any quality support. As you said, if they indicated it works with all systems, then stand by that claim. If an inert peat medium with some minor additions is an exception, denote that with an asterisk.
well , I do not really know perhaps he is right, he said they test it all the time, if he is correct there are starter nutes in commercial pro mix hp
If pro mix HP has any nutes in it , it is minimal and would not cause what it is being blamed for. Hence having to add nutes to it for anything other then starting seeds.
