Hephaestus's build and grow

Ok, recently decided to start growing again.

Old 1 of 2 cabinets… Going back a decade. Ended up giving them away after ex went paranoid. Was a good way to keep up with her chronic needs…

These days im still using to help with my destroyed knees. In my 30s they said 40s or catastrophic failure before they’ll do replacements. 40s now theyre saying 50s or catastrophic failure…

Use a bit of extract these days for migraines, way better than hydromorph. And a night or two a week a couchlocker to knock me out when my brain wont turn off.

Planning to build a 16x16x40ish inch cabinet. For the kitchen counter. Yes seriously - its legal why wouldnt I?

Planning on 2020 extrusion frame, alucobond (acm/acp) panels. Basically RDWC - I’d call it sumped DWC taking some volume out of the main bucket to keep feet cooler. Better place for sensors and equipment too.

Ive been going back and forth between brushed aluminum panels and black extrusion or bare aluminum extrusion and black panels.

Front door - I’m leaning to a 200x300 dclp glass window - likely with a heavy tint too. Visible with lights on and i want to watch, opaque otherwise. Solenoid locking for security.

Brought in a “300w” (50w) blurple LED fixture. 5m more of LED sidelights.

Plan is fully automated, ph, ec/tds, auto water topoff, temp (air & water(x2)) humidity. Id like to dose 3 part, but seriously thinking KISS 1part lately. And dose ph +/-.

Popping seeds right now. Peakseedsbc mix pack - have c99’s stashed for later. Got some legal seeds - and some from legally puchased AGLC sold - those are what im using  prove that I’m not.

Because of 2 divorces… No more garage or garage full of tools. But i have 8 3d printers here - know that old saying when you only have a hammer - everything looks like a nail?

Netpots are insane local & amazon so i decided these were my preferred choice:

Seedlings, decided i didnt want rockwool. But still needed stability to hold the seedling - so im going to use these sized to 50% with polyfill inside.

Ive just built a little cloner out of a funky round aquarium i found. Printing holders and hole covers now, should have pics tomorrow. That should buy me time to get basic of the cabinet built.

Talking with a friend whos a programmer - both of us are on 2nd year of unemployment - about possibly looking at commercial development if thid works out so may hold back some bits and pieces. As a result I’d love input. Positive and negative.

Nice build, I like your sheet metal work.

Looking forward to seeing more, and hope you forget about 1 part nutes again.
Do yourself the favor and use a 2 or 3 part flower nutrient, you will get a better end product IME.

I use the GH 3 part series, and a bit of epsom salt (for some strains) and biobizz fish-mix (folia feed) is all I use in flower.

Happy growing

Nice new project you’re getting started. Can’t wait to see the finished product and it in action. Best of luck on your grow!!

@Palindrome yeah, my nutrient background comes from the aquarium side. Where i used PMDD nutrients, individualy added npk mg ca + trace. Ive been playing around trying to understand the GH 3 part and how it affects water. Figuring out the dose & effect timeframes is making me crazy - pretty much want to go back to individually controlling them.

Cloner/veg chamber for now. Old circle aquarium, hot glued an old weighted airstone (big 2" disc style) underneath. Printed that tray in PETG.

Printed the pods at 50% - 1" cubed. Walls are too thin. Hinge snapped immediately. That funky textured design resulted in holes everywhere. Going to try at 75% if not guess I’ll pull out fusion 360 and roll my own design…

Seeds are splitting but no roots showing this morning so - still time no rush.

Welcom @Hephaestus. Access to a 3-d printer is cool. Looking forward to watching your success!

Not sure why camera has gone to potato… Ended up throwing some purple in as the white is way too translucent. 75% is a nice size. The hinge just isnt going to work in pla or petg, doesnt work fullsize either. So we will go with rubber band to hold closed.

Saw one little tail emerging this morning.

The tray holders are printing now.

Little cloner is ph’d and ready.

Looking good, seems like you already have a plan.

There we go… One of the rear cameras on this phone is toast apparently.

My version of an aerocloner… Ready for use. Little GE 9w warm white up top, getting 400lpm of air to a 2" stone beneath - bit coarser than I’d like but thats probably me getting OCD.

Waiting on seeds to pop still…

Back to cad work on the big box.

Sweet, looks great man

First 2 seeds moved to the cloning pods. Wow, not used to 7 day germ… I thought they were NFG for sure.

On the right was set below flush in the polyfill. Now its peeking above 5 hours later. Good signs! pH sitting at 5.45, no nutrients yet, water temp @ 76°f RH 62% (this is in a cloning chamber/initial veg chamber)

I’m sitting with my good friend fusion360 right now sketching out what will be an tiedown anchor little plate thatll slide under the 2" pot and provide some anchor points for LST training. So the plant js effectively trying to lift a bucket its standing in.

Fighting a massive cluster headache so not being super productive…

Seed pod lying on the tray this morning. 2nd still in hiding.

My LST base. Basically 6" diameter, tie down holes 1/8" at 3/4" intervals outside my Net pots diameter.

Need to put a new throat in the titan aero, seem to be having constant leaks lately. Tightening it down every print it just comes loose mid print then we get leaks over the sock…

Ignore the water temp…

Updated a bunch of code, onewire went crazy, and now its not blanking correctly after the initial boot (where it prints up failed to read from dht11).

Fun and games fun and games. This is why im not a programmer

Whorled phyllotaxis on the left.

Visualize whorled weed!

So working on exhaust fans and filtration. Grabbed a 4" & amazon carbon filter.

Yeah sounds like a vacuum.

I have all these 5015 fans floating around because of the 3d printers. Instead of a relay or SSR I can control them off a mosfet. Because they’re squirrel cage fans - automatic light break. Using pipe threads and 3 different dash123 orings to ensure they seal + no light leaks.

Theyre quiet - thats the big thing. And 3 smaller fans beats one big fan on redundancy.

Lost one seedling. There’s apparently a learning curve with polyfill, a level of ‘not packed tight’ that needs to be learned.

So polyfill experiment not working out so well… Lost 3.
No. 4 is looking ok but… No tap root? And still really small. Pic attached.

Its now removed from that shell + into a smaller 6mm id tube with even less polyfill (enough to hold it in place but that’s it)

Guess I’ll go get some coco or rockwool. I hate both of those choices, always seems to turn into a breeding ground for bugs. I had my best luck before with clones and getting those media’s out of the cabinets.

If you’re looking for a more inert medium I’ve seen people use glass marbles with a top feed drip type system. They should stay pretty clean and can be reused endlessly… just a thought

Also do you have a link to that scubber you have? I bought a similar one a while ago called a ‘flower filter’, but the company seems to have disappeared lol

I suppose if i carefully placed the germed seed in hydroton it might stay put? Then like you say manually or with a small pump drip water over it…

Apollo-NG - SEEDStack - Open 3D printable seed/sprout system

Maybe something like this? Can get it just big enough to make the transition?

Scrubber surprisingly is no longer listed. Amazon 404s when i click the order(?) Definitely wasn’t quiet so its long gone and returned…

That’s a neat idea there. You could also start a seed in a solo cup or something full of soil/coco or whatever. Let it grow a bit, cut the bottom off and put it into the medium of choice.

Slowly getting there… Trying to get @ReikoX 's DFAB to pop. 0/4 so far… I’m pretty sure karmas out to get me lately. :rage: (thanks again reikox!)

She’s now in megacrop @ 250ppm (500ppm total). Hope she will start really going soon.
