Holy's Garden (Part 1)

Par is All relative . He is a good enough grower to SEE when his plants are happy . He then just notes the par level for future reference . With my first one I had it down pat by time they went into flower . During veg of 3 weeks I figured the light and par out .

He will too. Doesn’t matter what the number is
850 or 1075 , happy plants are happy plants .

If his big time pray is at 900 par on HIS METER OR PHONE , and 800 produces happy horizontal leafs , then he knows at 800 on HIS METER , his plants are using the optimal amount of light .

Don’t be caught up in the number , means nothing , but it will be close to published standards . Just find what the plants like and use that as YOUR NUMBER .

Read all your posts , your bright as Hell , you understand what I’m saying . Use it as a tool , of relativity , that’s its use . Even the par best you can across canopy , maintain it steady , the meter will allow you to do just that . Forget about calibrating it or how it compares to an apogee , means jack . Watch your plants , note note par , play with it while in veg to see what they can handle .

Glad to see light is down and power lower .

Morning @HolyAngel

Light is bad ass looking aint it , lol

Exactly! :ok_hand:
Thank you very much for the kind words! And good morning too ^^

I love the look of this light. The color’s are perfect, 93 cri is glorious lol. Was definitely somewhere in the 80s with those HLG boards. I think the rspec boards honestly do put out more light than this progrow 640 does  but at a much higher temp and density and worse spread. I think the spread on this 640 is gonna be fucking amazing come ~5 weeks into flower! And definitely less heat/less power overall. I’m excited lol

That MAC you got looks on point btw. I’d believe she’s every bit as strong as she looks from seeing your pics and whatnot. Been meaning to comment on it on your thread but been distracted

Just read a bunch of post above . Don’t let the naysayers confuse you . I told you I tested it against A known standard , was within 3 percent of it . Within 5 percent of chart GLS sent me with light . In an EMPTY SHINNING TENT WITH WAX ON IT ,lol , the numbers they sent would be dead on .

It reads CONSISTENTLY and has for months with the same 22 lb diffuser .

Who gives a rats ass what the number is ?? I don’t , I want to grow pot , not analyze numbers .
Regardless of the REAL TO THE TENTH par number , I’m a good enough grower to understand when my plants have too little or too much light levels . SO ARE YOU .
Use it as a tool to set power level and height and even canopy .

I cannot imagine not using it

Over WHOLE CANOPY , they do not throw more light at same wall wattage . In the middle , yes I would agree , but that’s WHY I didn’t buy Rspecs. I could have afforded them

I know the GLS has a better spread across the canopy cause I have mapped the rspec in a grow shop before . Biased towards middle third .

When you finally figure it out , I’m guessing week 7 of flip , and you got her 12 inches off their heads cranking 800 or 900 par on your phone , and the tri’s are just exploding , and exploding all over the tent , your in for a pleasant surprise . Damn light will flat as cover that 4 x 4 area with MORE light than you can use .

You will find even it falls off at the corners , higher in the middle . But not like the Rspec I mapped did . Set it so you have good par out to the edges , I find I must bend plants in middle a bit to get what I want .if I want 800 at the far edge , I’ll get too much in the middle and bleach . So I’ll bend the middle plant usually so it see’s no higher than the PAR level I KNOW it can handle .

Last 2 weeks of flower , if your not at 100 percent , crank it there , raise light . Run your last 2 weeks of hard flower (mine are weeks 7 8 and 9 of my 10 weekers ) at WFO

Yeah the Mac is exceptional . Never grown or even seen in person a more covered plant . The pics do her no justice . When I pull the dry down next week n trim , I’ll try and set up some good lights and pull out my cam and good lens for a killer shot .

She is marvelously delicious , lol , like the commercial goes , absolutely beautiful and colored up , taste is outrageous, smell is on point . This is from 7 day hang , be better after 15 days .
Shit is strong strong , but high is good . Not dirty , but very heavy . POOR choice for early morning bud as I’m finding out , but it tastes n smells so goo burning I cannot stop smoking it .

Maybe best weed I ever grew. I say that because Wedding Cake , is everything I just said about Mac. Smell and taste way different , but REALLY to my liking . The smell is instantly identifiable as WC , as is the INSTANT HIGH from her. Great high too , but she is also a hammer . Less a hammer than Mac , and I can smoke her all day …… and do , lol .

Can’t get over the kush traits coming out of this male

He’s really growing on me, no pun intedned  Only downside I can come up with so far is his stem rub and such are pretty light smelling. He doesn’t reek. I’m hoping that just means he’s a bit recessive in that area and not that it means he’s less potent or anything. Don’t mind letting the girls pass through all their scents. What I do get though is very reminiscent of the F2 #1 girl. Spicy/Citrusy/Vegetable type smell on the stem rub. Sometimes like sour baby shit  Anyways, really hoping this male is gonna be the ticket! :crossed_fingers:100% Stable so far through timer adjustments and f’up’s :crossed_fingers: Got his clone rooted and planted and stuck in the veg tent.

Staying in veg perpetually is my main requirement for ‘keeper’ males. Some males need a few weeks of plucking balls off once they hit sexual maturity and then they stay in veg forever after that until you flower them. Good male’s will just stay in veg until you flower them, regardless of stress. Some males throw balls as soon as they get root bound which is a bad trait imo. Bad male’s will throw balls no matter what you do, regardless of lighting or uppots or anything.

Morning @HolyAngel, I’d like to ask you for a little help when you have a chance, to put a Feeding Trial in place.

I love your sense of absolute confidence in the Gypsum/ Maxi gro/bloom pairing that you Feed your flock with.

And I’m going to try it this Summer in a Test-Plot; 10’ square, with 25 Auto-Flowers.

Almost a Guerrilla grow, along-side another Corn-Field, but with some discreet and limited access from strangers… We are going to prepare a 10’ x 10’ common Pit, and set the plants-up like a chessboard. Staggered with the taller plants North…

What I would like to ask your Opinion of… how would you prepare the soil with Amendments in such a common Pit, for a group of auto plants being fed only gypsum and a Veg/bloom nute.

I’m excited to follow this simple method that you standby. And that there is a Test-Piece to do it on. I also understand that the Soil needs to be loaded to some degree. This is where I’d like to work with you, and see whats needed underground.

Products R ordered, June 1st is the target date for Germination… these plants are going to be grown through the strength of the summer heat.

Looking forward to Hashing this out with you.

Cheers
~ MB

Ah man, I’m honestly not sure on soil. I’ve never fed the gypsum/maxibloom to soil plants nor do I top feed. I’d imagine you’d need to feed less than I am. Maybe 1tsp gypsum and ~3tsp maxibloom or similar bloom nute. Feed, feed, water type schedule.

Honestly for soil stuff I usually defer to @ReikoX’s guidance.

Outdoors and soil in general I try to get everything in there up front so I don’t have to do much later if anything. Earthworm castings, alfalfa meal, crustacean meal, blood meal, bone meal, kelp meal, dolomite lime, oyster shell flower, gypsum, basalt and/or glacial rock dust, langbenite… I may top amend with Roots Organics Elements and/or Roots Organics Uprising Bloom(cheating) later but that’s it. Water only the whole way. I have moderate luck with this.

Thanks for that @HolyAngel and I understand your dilemma soil vs Hydro…
The ingredients you mentioned Confirm the direction its going and we’re good from here.

But I will also touch-base w/ @ReikoX as well. Catch the finer-points lol. Thanks for that connection.

I’m happy to take it outside the box, and see what Happens. Definitely you’ll be kept posted, I’m pumped already.

Thanks again

Fraternally,

You’re welcome and I hope you’re able to find the extra help you need to get them done out there this year! Those pics are absolutely beautiful!

There are two empty lots beside my friends new home, in a new remote subdivision. He’s been told nobody is Building on them for the next two years.

The back half of the lot next-door is not visible from the road and is really private. We’ll pretend its not there. Feed early, try Not to make a Spectacle out if it… no trampled paths etc… gonna be fun

Is it possible to get to your grow area and get a soil sample.? Would be well worth it to get it tested to see what you are working with. @MissinBisson

Your question is Bang-on @Mrgreenthumb. Being in a modern Sub-Division… we can all assume that the base Land, is Clay… and we know it from last year.

There is work to be done knowing that its a Clay base, we are NOT growing in it.

Roto-tiller and Shovels to empty the Clay… Soil / Amendments to be loaded and Mixed, all 4-5 weeks ahead of planting.

That is what we are preparing for…
Have you seen the thread I loaded about Testing your Soil? Super easy!

Take me through your Process if you could…

Here is the article and my Result on the graph…

So you’re telling me I’ve been doing it wrong!! :+1:  That explains a lot!

I kept thinking the boys had a ‘hair trigger’ when it came to flowering as I was having a bugger of a time trying to keep them in veg with the girls.

I eventually gave up on cloning the males and changed to just collecting their pollen and trashing them afterwards.

Lol quite possibly. It depends on the line. Some lines there are no ‘stable’ males. No amount of plucking or lights on will keep them from producing more balls. But :100: there are males that will not produce balls unless flowered like normal. Or again, produce small amount of balls for the first week or two of maturity that when plucked, never show up again. And the plant will stop producing them at the nodes and just show the male double-leaf/bracht preflower but never produce a full ball with pollen. I kept that starshine(ssdd f2 #1 x starlite) male for a year and a half in veg without any balls/nanners growing nor pollen dropping.

if you have alot of clay in your soil, gypsum is going to be your best friend

Clay is evil on its own lol, thats why we’re going to simply replace this 100sq / ft patch.

Last year we prepped 4 separate Pits for the plants abutting the Corn Field and they all grew strong.
We’re repeating what worked because we were still surprised to see SO much Clay…

Thanks for confirming the news about Gypsum and Clay… always appreciated

With a layer of GreenSand and Gypsum on top of the clay, with another couple feet of built/Purchased (lol) substrate tween Auto-garden / clay planet

Thats whats planned for the autos

SSDD F2 #4 male is getting ready to drop pollen. One flower already open. I set up the parchment paper for collection.

In the meantime, female flower tent is at day 7 now.

I’ve been crushing the stems every other day or so to keep stretch down. So far one week in and things have stretched maybe ~50% instead of the usual doubling or more.

So you’re planning on hitting that Nigerian Haze with the SSDD pollen? I think I missed that in between all the “hydro growing tips talk” haha (which I typically just scroll through and don’t read)(no offense haha), but that sounds extremely promising and kick-ass. I mean, it all sounds good, but a Nigerian Haze/SSDD cross sounds very interesting…

Ah… I honestly hadn’t thought about it lol  but yes likely will do so since I’ve been planning on hitting everything else in there for sure. At least one branch. Even if I didn’t want to pollinate it, it will still likely get pollinated anyways. Should be interesting for sure, she’s got a really neat stem rub I’ve not come across before. Smells like a bar soap of some kind, like Irish Spring or something
