Excellent! Never done any hydro. Plain coco is as close as I’ve been. Thanks for the info!
I always say energy input equals bud output. I can slack all I want, but it costs you in the long run. plays computer games and ignores the plants
@HolyAngel How do you like the fabric pots for your flood and drain? I am going to setup a table myself at some point and am trying to decide between the fabric or plastic nursery pots.
I am REALLY liking the fabric pots in the table. I would consider rockwool cubes as well, it’s what I’ve used in the past, but I can’t veg with my current table so have to do something else instead.
Even then I think I might be getting better growth with the fabrics how I have them setup, than I ever did with rockwool cubes. Definitely needs more experimentation though. Could be the same or worse too, been awhile since I ran rockwool
In this case all my plants are from either soil or coco/perlite solo cups until they were just about root bound, then transplanted into the 1 gallon fabrics. I pour 2-3inches of perlite down first, set the solo transplant in, and fill half way up the soil or coco core with more perlite, top with soil or coco/perlite mix so nothing escapes and done. I started watering every 4 hrs but with full on flower I’ve been doing every 3 hours for the last few weeks.
Thanks for the info. My experience with soil-less media is almost exclusively coco. People say not to use coco in flood and drain because of salt build up from synthetic nutes. But I have seen several folks do it including VaderOG on youtube and he had pretty amazing results. I have done drain to waste before but thats alot of setup with setting up drippers and feedlines. Can’t beat the simplicity of the flood and drain table.
Table/FLC BX1
38 inches tall, towering over everything else. Double the height of her sisters. Think she’s about done with stretch finally
NL5HSS #5 - Day 41/80
Purple NL2 #2
Purple NL2 #4
Purple NL2 #5
All 3
Basically no stretch, talking ~4 inches so far 12 days into flower. Not sure if it’s me or what. #2 is definitely the most purple so far, #5 is pinkish, #4 is still green.
Man, that is weird the way your PNL2’s aren’t stretching, especially considering how far away they are from the light. I took a good look at mine after you mentioned yours weren’t stretching and although she’s the smallest plant in the tent, she definitely still probably doubled in size from flip. Maybe only 75%, but she’s much bigger than she was on day one of flower.
Yeah I’m not too sure what the deal is. I think part of it is the blumat system, it’s keeping them watered but we’re not getting the same rate of growth as before. There’s a good chance they’ve been spending time adjusting their roots for the blumat instead of growing tall, but I didn’t have a choice really since I have to leave for a few days coming up here soon.
Going to have to setup another flood table I think for a proper run
Yikes! That would freak me out! So much for air pruning. Those plants are fairly young right? More roots more fruits right?
Blessings…
They’re in the flood table so it’s totally normal Root Porn The NL5HSS has em laying across the bottom Water every 3 hours’ll do that.
Check out this fade on the NL5HSS #5! Day 43
Not seen that before! I’m seriously wondering if she’s gonna make it to 80 days now, seems like she might be done sooner than that really wonder what’s going on with my soil game…
FLC BX1
I don’t even have words really… She’s 40 inches tall now and been steadily adding an inch every day or so for the last week. We’re at 21 days since the first buds formed so I think she’s about to kick that into gear.
Bonus PNL2 #2 and #5
She’ll make it. She might not look all “High Times centerfold plant of the month” by the time you harvest, but she’ll make it.
One time I decided to try the watering regimen suggested on the grasscity no till thread, even though I don’t grow no till. It was like an MBP top dress, watered in with fulvic and aloe. Four days later, a kelp/neem tea. Four days after that some coconut water. Straight water in between those “feedings.” It was a whole thing. I fried the fuck out of some of my plants. And it was when I was testing for Bodhi, too. No idea why I decided to try something new when I was testing. Maybe I was just bored…
Anyway, the plants that got fried were the Big Sur Nigerian/NL2 crosses. The Mendo Purps/SSDD were fine, but the Nigerian/NL2’s did not appreciate that little watering regimen at all. By the time I chopped, which I believe was around day 75, the plants had, like, three leaves on them haha! But those flowers were some of the best, strongest, and tastiest weed I’ve ever grown. Very psychedelic.
Cannabis is a fucking weed. Literally haha. We stress too much about it sometimes, I think. I started growing some basil, parsley, rosemary, chives and cilantro about a month ago. The difference between growing those herbs and growing weed is… Well, it’s different. I keep looking at those herbs, wondering,”Why are they growing so slooooooow…?” haha. Weed’s easy. And very forgiving.
Oh I meant, it may not make it to 80 days because it’ll actually be done way before then. And the only reason it’s going 80+ days in soil is because my soil game is fckn garbage
But I’m not positive yet Definitely some good things to think about there though, thank you!
I think I actually have her pretty much dialed in, the wierd leaf twist just happened over night but the res was pretty low when I got to it so thinking quick mag deficiency. Got it topped off again so should be good. Normally I’d be turning down the ppm’s a bit but I can’t with these other 2 girls in there so she’s just gonna get what she gets. Either way, the bud is easily double the size of the other two runs of her, half way into flower, she’s purple-y where she wasn’t before(the temps are hotter now than they were the last two times so its not cold related), and now this maroon/gold fade thing going on. I think she’s happy for sure ^^
Re: soil: just mix up some coot’s mix and call it a day. It’s cheap and very easy to grow in. Very forgiving (I mean, dude, I dunno what the fuck I’m doing, but my grows always turn out pretty dang good). And you don’t need to be feeding the soil all the time. That’s the thing with growing any way other than organic that I can’t get behind, is just that constant having to buy stuff to feed the plants. Always seemed easier to me to just mix everything up in the soil and then just water the plants haha!
Right… idk man. I’ve been doing a basic organic amendment mix, not coots, and the struggle has been real.
7.5 gallons of peat moss
4.5 gallons of perlite
3 gallons of fresh EWC or compost
2.5 cups of dolomite lime
2 cups bone meal
1 cup blood meal
1 cup kelp meal
1 cup greensand
Plants are generally deficient two months in on a 7gallon pot so I have to reamend half way through. Getting slow growth… IDK if it’s my EWC or what. I’ve since bought Roots Organic’s nute line(grow/bloom/elemental) and that’s helped quite a bit. I’m doing okay in 3 gallon pots now but overall, it’s just not great. It’s good, but not great. I like the ease of only having to PH the water, but honestly that’s almost as much work as mixing up nutes. Talking an extra 10 minutes to add in nutes. Going blumats for the water only helped alleviate that issue, but the growth still isn’t great.
Again though, I started my herb growing journey with DWC. I did that for years, then a flood table, then quit shortly after for ~15 yrs. I never even looked at soil growing. This last year has been my first try and it’s really making me wanna go back to hydro.
Least with the table I only have to make up a few gallons at a time once a week and then just top it off until I’m out, then make up some more for the next week. No changes in ratios or anything, same shit every time. The stability and ease with it is damn near unbeatable, and you can see the growth.
How long did you let that mix sit before using it? It works okay for smaller plants, never tried it in bigger than a 3-gallon pot. Coots is a better mix, if not a bit more expensive/complex.
Always at least 3 weeks sir. I think the first time I just didn’t have it damp enough, so while it did sit there, I don’t think it actually cooked. The second and third batches have been much better in that regard but I had to change to a totally different brand of EWC, so it was like I fixed one thing but then this other thing popped up.
This is where I’ve had to add in the Roots Organics stuff, and thats seemed to fix it for the most part but I’m still experimenting.
I also wonder about my watering, like am I doing it wrong?
or if there really needs to be like 50% aeration in there instead of like ~1/3… Honestly kinda lost with all the soil stuff
Okay, well, the first thing I’m seeing that’s kind of weird in your soil recipe is the ratio of peat/perlite/EWC (or compost). You want a 1:1:1 ratio of those three ingredients as a base. What’s the dolomite for, again? That’s a “liming agent”? Calcium and magnesium? Is it also a source for minerals? That’s the biggest thing I’m noticing that’s lacking from your soil mix recipe, is the lack of rock dust etc. Some form of minerals. To my base soil mix (peat/pumice/EWC), I add eight to ten cups of rock dust (basalt, specifically) for every fifteen gallons of base mix. Minerals are super-important in organic/soil grows.
Anything you add to a soil mix, you don’t really want N-P-K numbers over like 5 or 6. That bone and blood meal is really fucking “hot.” I don’t think they’re a long-lasting source of phosphorous and nitrogen. They’re also not well-balanced.
And the greensand takes years to break down and become available to plants, so unless you’re using the same soil mix for like three or four years, it’s really not doing much of anything.
Kelp is always good.
I dunno. I can post my soil mix here if you want. It’s very easy. It’s also all over the internet, pretty sure you’ve seen it at some point haha. But it works for me. Very few issues. But I also don’t give a shit if a few leaves look gnarly and crispy. I’m not trying to win any Plant of the Year awards haha!
I don’t think Coot’s mix is any more complex than the recipe holyangel posted here. I’m seeing five amendments in holly’s recipe. I think Coot’s requires about the same.
