So I’ve noticed this white powder on some plants. I’ve never dealt with powdery mildew so I don’t want to assume it is. The temp has been 72-75 and the humidity rarely gets to 55%. I also have an intake, exhuast, open vents, and a fan with indirect air with the plants. The plants are about four weeks in and in veg so if it is, any suggestions on curing the situation would be great! I’m including pictures of my fan and humidifier who have a similar coating on them incase they are connected.
The coating on the humidifier is simply minerals. Do you have hard water?
I can’t zoom in to the leaf so it’s hard to tell. Offhand it looks like something dripped on the leaf. The white is in the valleys which suggests something liquid. Powdery mildew is more patchy, at least in my experience. Someone else may have further thoughts on that here.
Yes I definitely have hard water. It comes from a major city and we don’t drink the tap water because it is gross. I usually filter it for the plants but not for the humidifier.
Powdery mildew can only grow on live plants. It won’t grow on surfaces or dead material.
That said, the mark on the leaf doesn’t look like mildew to me either.
Thanks for the input. My suspicions is buildup from the humidifier. Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be great…not sure if it is better to use filtered water, clean it, or just ignore it.
I’d just ignore it. As northernloki said the spot on the leaf looks like hard water was dripped onto it and left minerals behind after drying.
I had powdery mildew bad this fall. That doesn’t look like it at all. PM is more oblong and patchy per Loki.
