I’ve added the Golden Brown. I put the Oaxaca x C5 at my friend’s plot, so not lost.
buuut, one of the Emperor Hazes got repeatedly attacked by my chickens. I’ve secured the garden, but they just would go in there and dig up the roots. Really annoying. Maybe I’ll smoke a joint while having chicken dinner
Emperor haze that dind’t make it. RIP. I’ll put a Raspberry Haze in it’s place
So I guess the Emperor Hz that was attacked by the chickens want to live after all. I might transplant her if she doesn’t bounce back. We’re getting a couple of hot days coming up
I also cracked some old seeds I had from a place called Basic Seeds. I got these as freebies over ten years ago, and the genetics have always intrigued me. All five cracked (they should have made it a 6-pack)

I should have pulled that Emperor Haze before it died, but I didn’t
Bummer on the deceased Emperor Haze. But looks like a nice garden now!
That Bokeo 12 sure looks neat with the super narrow 9-bladed leaflets.
Here’s some shots at my friend’s spot. Three different planters.
This one gets too much sun - Oax/C5, and a GushMints
I haven’t posted too many pics of the Guyana. She’s finishing earlier than anything else for sure. Battle-torn, but her flowers smell sweet and dank/pungent. Looking forward to smoking this one
Here’s some morning sun pics
These are Beers, from the now defunct Basic Seeds. Any info on this or Basic Seeds would be great. 5 out of 5
Golden Brown (Chocolate Trip f3 X Golden Highland Thai) - very aromatic, even at this stage. I have another one, too, that’s not so nosey
Pretty Burmese
Acid Beauty getting taller - smells like BO and metal

Plants looking awesome. I never noticed you had a screen house, I always thought it was just a fence or something in the other pics. I’m going to have to read up on the Bokeo. Is that your pic on the RSC website? Nice.
Is it a steel structure with a big shade cloth on top? I need to make something like that I can pull a tarp over next year. And semi-permanent moth netting. The caterpillars are pissing me off over here, enough for me to actually do something about it next year.
Yes, the screen house, I like that name and I didn’t know what to call it. I kept saying “carport kinda thing.”
It’s still a work in progress. The soil is raised to the height of a cinder block. Next year I will sink it - take out the cnderblock frame, pull out the good soil, dig down about 2 feet, and then re-add the good soil. This is the proper way to grow outdoors in my area (have the bed sub-grade - to collect rain water as well as keep the roots extra cool).
Neverhteless, it’s working very well, and the weather is very much on our side now. We’re barely cresting 100*, which is really very pleasant. All good except for the damn grasshoppers. They’re making a feast of the leaves, as you can see in the pic. but I can kill grasshoppers. Much better than battling the heat.
And yes, that was my plant they used for the Bokeo#2 on the RSC site. She is the mother to the one I’m growing now - what i’m calling Bokeo12.
Bokeo 2 ::
Ah. It does kinda resemble a carport. I think I remember the pictures easier than the descriptions you write. I will have to keep my eyes open for one around here there’s a lot of them used.
The sub-grade soil bed is nice thinking. I like the concept both for water collection/retention as well as temperature regulation.
I had big issues with grasshoppers about a month ago, any tricks to dealing with those? Neem seemed pretty ineffective. You mean literally hunting them down and stomping them individually? Or some sort of IPM control?
Regarding the Bokeo, she’s pretty. Nice work! Glad winter brings you nice weather for them. Jealous of that, not so jealous of your summer
I pull the grasshoppers off by hand. The populations are low enough. My chickens watch and wait for the treats. Also I’ll spray at night - water w a little dr bronners, and a potion made up of essential oils :: ceder, rosemary, oregano, whatever I got at hand. They hate it for sure
Looking good, man! Just got all caught up and will be following along to see how things progress. You weren’t kidding when you said it was a “brutal summer”…That desert heat is no joke!
Very cool that you were able to get these old ‘beer’ seeds to pop! Don’t remember ever seeing them available at sannies. I tried digging up some info for you on them, but couldn’t really find much.
However, this here is a pretty neat way of looking back at some of the lines they used to have listed at sannies shop:
Seems they had six different varieties to choose from at the time. Unfortunately beer was not one of them (was hoping to find some more info this way). It’s all in dutch so use a translator unless fluent. I for one am not. lol
Oh that’s really cool. I’ve never seen that web archive before. I guess it’s all recorded. The Beer was a freebie that they were giving out, and I"m pretty sure I got it with a purchase of the Blue Crystal, which was also from basic seeds - even tho I’ve searched for it and it never shows up as part of their collection. Here’s the info on Blue Crystal (from Sannie’s original listing):
As blue as those I had never seen one !
The smell and construction are also fascinating to watch.

… anyway, I need to post some pics of the Beers. I got one male and 4 females.
I poked around the old OpenGrow site and found that Scone of Ark (there’s name I hadn’t seen in awhile) did some grow reports on Blue Crystal. In that same thread they talk about how Sannie’s Shop had all of a sudden stopped selling them
I think one of the reasons that the Basic Beer is so difficult to get info on, is it’s most generic name!
These are pics my local friend just sent me of her Tropical Haze. I made this cross awhile ago, a pollen-chuck for sure. I called it Tropical Haze because when she asked me what it was called, I was supposed to say “(Zamaldelica x OldTimer Haze) X (Jamaican Pineapple Skunk x Original Haze)” but the words just fell out “Tropical Haze” lolz
Thank you for sharing some info on that Blue Crystal @Zanzibar. It’s great to read about some of these older varieties that I never even knew existed. I guess that basic-seeds must have been around just prior to when I made my way over to sannie’s shop/opengrow.
Are you planning to make seeds with those Basic Beers? If so, that lone male is one lucky fella. Haha
That tropical haze looks and sounds great, btw.
