How do you keep your cat away from your tent?

@chronix Less work that it looks like truly. I just moved the magazine racks from another spot and taped up foil.

So as a total newbie I’m working hard to make lots of mistakes. Like dithering on which filter to buy. Actually the whole filter thing intimidates me tbh… so I’ve been avoiding it.

Inside the tent I have two EarthBoxes filled with a mix of organic coco coir, organic potting soil and organic vegetable scraps being devoured by a fresh batch worms.

My plan was to grow some organic vegetables for my 13yo while I monitor temp and humidity and acquire the final puzzle pieces (carbon filter, oscillating fan, humidifier).

Now I need a carbon filter pronto so that oh so yummy “good dirt smell” doesn’t attract the kitties.

Now my need exceeds my anxiety.

Cat news stand?

Get a dog… LOL they have no interest in the tent or whats inside, nor do they wanna claw it or climb on it. My guy visits my grow once in a while, like when he wants to go out. LOL. No interest otherwise

Take it easy, people on this site can walk you through and help you along the way!

Do you have an exhaust fan yet? If so what size?
What size is your tent? It looks bigger then a 3’ x 3’ tent.

@Nagel420 My 12yo and I absolutely love dogs and live on a block with lots of dog traffic (close to a popular park entrance with a dog run). I love how you can get a sense of a dog’s personality just sharing a moment on a sidewalk with them.

Unfortunately our apartment is too small for many pets and the 13yo wanted a kitten so we adopted two from a shelter a few years ago.

The one not ending our Risk game (picture above) turned out to be a wonderful therapy cat for my super stressed out workaholic husband. She is incredibly sweet and attentive and just a pleasure to be around. Her sister is a hell-raiser. They are a special pair.

I have six cats and 3 tents, my flower tents are in their own room that I don’t let the cats in. I don’t worry to much about my veg tent in the kitchen.

I’m also in a tiny 2 bedroom duplex

Bummer about not being able to have a pup. Had one all my life. I am allergic to cats, and they sense that, I swear. Usually one will get on the chair / couch behind my head, and wag its tail to hit my eyes. Yup, 20 mins later I’m squinting thru swollen eyes and the cats are laughing. I swear they are evil, while dogs are just happy-go-lucky…

You guys would love my boy, he’s definitely Mr. Personality on the street, and pretty well trained compared to the neighbors dogs

But seriously, lots of good suggestions above, and I am sure more to come. Seems like lots of growers also have cats… And cats seem to like plants… So they’ve figured this out before

Ahhh! So that’s how you quote! Slick!

@chronix Tent is indeed a 4’x4’ - well eyeballed! I have done nada on air management. Not sure what an exhaust fan is? Assume it is different than the oscillating fan I plan to buy?

Last I dove into carbon filters I think I had settled on a Phresh filter but wasn’t sure what size to get… and I had no idea how the ducting worked. I probably should have set that all up before installing my lights. :flushed:

Its two different fans. Exhaust will vent air from the tent, while the oscillating fan is to circulate the air within the tent.

On my 4x3 tent, I have a 6" vivosun (metal) fan. Ducting / filter placement is case by case and can be arranged a couple of ways. Most commonly, people have the filter inside the tent, duct connecting filter to fan, then duct from fan to outside of tent, so fan draws air thru filter, and exhausts clean air outside the tent. This will help keep temps down with lights on.

You can also put the filter on the outside of the tent, and have the fan push the air thru ducting, into the filter, before it goes to the room. From what I understand, this is not the optimal use for the fans, most work better with the load on the suction side, than on the exhaust side.

There’s plenty of examples on here if you look closely at peoples tents and setups. And lots of reviews of fans, there’s lots of junk fans out there, so be aware, you do get what you pay for!

The carbon filters are pretty simple, match the size filter to the exhaust fan. a 4" fan w/ a 4" filter, and so on. That makes ductwork easy later…

Also, what kind of light do you have?

I guess you know how I role…
I let him in just to see the awesome things he does.

“G” is allowed in Veg only.
Flower is in it’s own room only because of the Hairy bud shots…

Unfortunately, I will be moving flower to another location that the cat will have access to so It looks like I will be doing some testing also. :eyes: :smiley_cat:

MIGRO ARAY 8 | 480W - 530W × 1 Full Spectrum + RED. Tent went up to 89 F with the lights on 50% power overnight. I was terrified I’d fried my worms. I gave them 48hs total darkness and lots of organic veggie scraps by way of apology.

@Nagel420 Will look the up but… do these come in kits? Like filter + exhaust fan + ducting? Or do people mix and match brands.

I have not done a whit of research on exhaust fans.

Heading to bed but this was so incredibly helpful. I feel like I accomplished something.

Cats both asleep. Crazy tent fortress standing strong.

They are available as kits, but kits can be a hit or miss…

This kit isnt bad:

Amazon.com: VIVOSUN 6 Inch 440 CFM Inline Fan with Speed Controller, Black 6 Inch Carbon Filter and 8 Feet of Ducting for Grow Tent Ventilation : Patio, Lawn & Garden

I like those fans, they have a metal casing and seem to last longer than the plastic ones. They have almost all the essentials, I just wish they had one more clamp (2 clamps on fan, intake / out, plus one on the filter makes 3 in my book).

You can hang filter and fan in tent and vent out, or keep them out of tent, and suck air from tent. Many ways to do that, again, depending on your space, what you want visible / hidden…

Don’t be afraid to keep asking questions.
This is your first tent set up, its totally understandable to be confused or overwhelmed at some things.
No such thing as a dumb question.

I piss on my tent to let them know it’s mine. You gotta mark your property so they wont fuck with it. Gotta get on their level to make them understand. This works for dogs too.
