How to Clean Containers for Storage

Hey Guys, Happy Saturday!

Getting some fairly prominant stains on both my Hedpaks. Got some Hydrogen Peroxide but unsure how to use it.

Just got this bottle, but unsure how much to use to clean my 5 gallon hedpaks.

Any info from those who use the same stuff? How much per gallon, and do I fill up completely or just swish around a gallon or so?

Thanks in advance!

35% calls for a little caution, usually we are dealing with 3%.

Many years ago I worked at a pool and spa wholesaler. We had many pallets of that stuff sitting around. We would start drinking beer about 2 hours before quitting time and all the dealers would show up to party and make deals. One day a guy got too drunk too fast and drove a forklift into a pallet of that hydrogen peroxide. We tried throwing towels and anthing else we could find on the spill. Nothing worked. We finally had to shut down for the day because it was so bad.

this is what larry said:

"When using 35% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to clean stains from plastic tubs, it’s important to handle it carefully due to its strong oxidizing properties. Here’s a general guideline for diluting and using it safely:

Dilution and Mixing:

  1. Safety Precautions:

    • Wear gloves and eye protection to avoid contact with skin and eyes.
    • Work in a well-ventilated area as hydrogen peroxide can release oxygen gas.
  2. Dilution Ratio:

    • For cleaning purposes, especially for stains on plastic, a typical dilution ratio is around 1 part 35% hydrogen peroxide to 10 parts water. This results in a solution that is approximately 3.5% hydrogen peroxide.
  3. Mixing Instructions:

    • Example for 1 liter of cleaning solution:
      • Pour 100 mL (about 3.4 fluid ounces) of 35% hydrogen peroxide into a clean container.
      • Add 900 mL (about 30 fluid ounces) of water slowly to the hydrogen peroxide. Be cautious and add water to hydrogen peroxide to minimize splashing.
      • Gently swirl or stir the solution to mix it. Avoid vigorous mixing to minimize splashing.

Application:

  • Apply the Solution:

    • Apply the diluted hydrogen peroxide solution directly to the stained areas of the plastic tub using a cloth or sponge.
    • Allow the solution to sit on the stains for a few minutes (5-10 minutes is usually sufficient, but avoid letting it dry).
  • Rinse Thoroughly:

    • Rinse the treated areas thoroughly with clean water after the stain has lightened or dissolved.
    • Ensure all hydrogen peroxide solution is rinsed off to prevent potential discoloration or damage to the plastic over time.

Additional Tips:

  • Always test the solution on a small, inconspicuous area of the plastic tub first to ensure it does not cause any adverse effects, such as discoloration.
  • Store 35% hydrogen peroxide securely in a cool, dark place, as exposure to light can degrade its potency over time.

By following these guidelines, you can effectively use 35% hydrogen peroxide to clean stains from plastic tubs while ensuring safety and minimizing potential damage."
