How "true" are S1's to the parent

Don’t people doing tissue culture use bleach to clean a sample?

Same and have regretted it ever since cuz the weeds around here are superpowered!

hold up I thought boxwoods were “little to no maintenance”?? You’re telling me the 20 hedges I just planted will need pruning? I need a refund!

Seriously though , I did plant 20 korean boxwoods this summer. I’m going to let them go without hedging. We will see how it plays out :slight_smile:

S1s may be very similar to the parent, or segregate like an F2. If the parent plant is relatively inbred and homozygous for a lot of genes, you will get more S1 plants that are more similar to the parent than a highly heterozygous clone.

You can’t assume you will (and probably won’t) get the same plant back.

@Seamonkey84 Sodium hypochlorite and alcohol washes are used to surface sterilize explants for tissue culture.
