Human Urine as Nitrogen Boost

I used a little of the rabbit shit in my raised beds, along with some root balls from a local commercial grow and leaves I scrounged in the fall from the hoity-toity neighborhood of folks who don’t know/care that those leaves = soil.

I made the title sound interesting but vague to take a serious tone here. Really it could be called “Peeing on your plants”

Anybody try this?

I seem to remember a 10-1 dilution

Shall I try to find the pic of the post from a guy who swore by this method until it killed his plants? :joy:
Check you PPM’s at a bare minimum. :v:

Here’s some science to the idea

From what i recall in this study they found best practice is to store it above 78 for three months which changes the ph and sterilizes it over that time. Then diluted 10-1 as @Foreigner said.

cough cough I have no clue who you could be referring to :joy:

In all seriousness, it works well diluted as a soil drench but it’s very hot as a foliar. I peed in a 5 gallon bucket of JLF (weeds and crop residues decomposed in water), put a few cups of that in my “around the garden” container which was already half full of non-yellowified JLF, took that at maybe 2 tbs per gal of water, sprayed some plants and completely murdered them.

The same spray bottle left to “cook” for a week, then sprayed on stray weeds and flowers just made them perk up and pray. Take that as you will :man_shrugging:

 Urine comes out sterile, unless you have an infection going on… I can see how the particulates would fall out over time though, but I would think that environmental contaminants could spoil a fermentation process. Interesting.

Oof! I was referring to someone else on IG who had posted a similar result from watering his plants directly :joy: Interesting how you added the urine to the JLF.

I’ve added pee to compost teas a few times an never noticed any harm to the plant. It will make your tea froth up like you added a ton of yucca extract tho.

Hmm, if your urine is especially foamy, it can be a warning sign for kidney problems, the foam is proteins that aren’t filtered out and retained in the bloodstream properly by the body, because the kidneys aren’t working great. I get it sometimes when I’ve been exercising a lot and loading on protein, and it’s a sign to ease up and drink a bit more water.

“Relationship between Kidney Disease and Foamy Urine
A healthy kidney filters waste and toxins from your blood while keeping protein and other important substances that your body needs circulating in your bloodstream. However, when your kidneys are damaged, they can allow too much protein to pass through into your urine. This is called proteinuria. As stated above, the high levels of protein in urine can cause it to be foamy. Protein in urine is not a problem itself, but it can be a sign that something is wrong. If you have a family history of kidney disease, diabetes, or high blood pressure, talk to your doctor about getting tested for CKD.”

The average lemon tree needs 20 urinations per year, piss near the same one everyday and you will start to see lots of aphids due to the excess nitrogen and the plant pathways to get rid of it. Thats a very small amount of N on a yearly basis but less is more in some cases.
