I think if you only post what you said you’re not breaking anyone’s privacy, but that’s only my guess … 
He was always nice to me and very generous.

Same here.
I knew he could get a ‘little prickly’ at times. But he had a very different life than I did so different view points are to be expected.
Dang, this is starting to sound like a eulogy… That’s not good
