Not as long as there are trusting people out there. There is always some piece of human garbage lurking around waiting for an opportunity to take advantage of others. Most try to give people the benefit of the doubt and sometimes it bites us in the backside. Nothing to do but keep moving forward and try to not let it jade you.

It looks like he was. BigT and Blue were the two users that ran the group message for those groups. They made the mistake of inviting me to one of their threads as a potential sucker.
I removed myself from that thread right away but what I saw was very concerning. I messaged a few of the people I recognized that were participating in that thread and warned them not to get involved.
I thought that was the end of it, but I guess they got more members involved after that.
now I’m finding out that the scam “private group buy group” actually kept going, and they did get money from people.
edit- @mods I think I am ok posting this because they were public group message threads, not a private PM? but let me know if I am not interpreting that correctly.

With the number of private runs that popped up it is not surprising that there would be an issue with some of them. Thankfully most of them are running quite well but there is always a risk when dealing with others. It’s a shame when some unscrupulous individual does something that has a negative impact on all. Defiantly a reason to be extra cautious. Grow on fellow OG’ers.

Not on everyone, I remember someone saying that if these group buys were only allowed through PM it wouldn’t affect OG’s reputation, only those who trusted the scammer would feel cheated, in fact, without this warning we would even never have heard about it.
Guess this should be the way to do them, you enter at your own risk and cannot blame the forum if things don’t go as expected …

Agree 100%. Blaming OG for stuff like this is just people being upset and looking to send that anger someplace, even if its not the place it belongs. If I get involved with any of these I go into them like I am lending money. Once it leaves my hand I write it off. If I get my return than it’s a bonus. This way I don’t get upset when things go sideways. Just my little coping mechanism.

The private seeds runs were / are not a scam. As @DougDawson pointed out, there are others that are going according to plan. The only 2 that appears to have failed were those who had T as the grower. I say “appears to have failed” because I want to leave room for the unlikely event of T showing back up in a couple of months bearing seeds for everyone who bought in to to his grows. I’m thinking that’ll happen shortly after Huge_Ass shows back up with everyone’s beans from the GG4 RIL seed run

I agree completely. While there was an issue with one grower all other runs are moving along as they should be. It’s not fair to all those involved to judge these projects based on one bad one.

damn bigT seemed like a decent guy too… makes me more inclined to only deal with certain ppl. but even then its buyer beware.
