Jacks 321 Hydro discussion, questions, tips, etc

Bought the finish and bloom and should be in this week. Got some ladies entering week 4 so just in time.

They told me the bloom is just for two weeks after flip and to go back to the 321 veg mix and do finish last two weeks

I did not have good luck with Jackā€™sā€¦I found it grew nice looking bud but the bud didnā€™t want to burn cleanā€¦ created a heavy crusty black ash ā€¦I found this issue with many fertilizer brands, especially powderedā€¦

That means you are not properly drying/curing your buds and has nothing to do with the nutrients.

Growing cannabis is only half of the process, the dry and cure is just as important to the quality and smoke of your final product.

no its the foodā€¦for sureā€¦ look me up and youā€™ll see my grow historyā€¦ there was something in the nutrient balance that resulted in plant tissue that didnā€™t want to burn cleanlyā€¦ maybe they have updated the formula since the batch I gotā€¦ interestingly tho back in the 1990ā€™s quite a few local growers were using Peters 10,30,20 and I found the same thing with itā€¦grew plants amazingly well that looked gorgeous but never would burn cleanly or at least not with the genetics we were working with

That is what every stoner-scientist has said since I started to grow in the 90s too, except now we have actual science that proves that we were all wrong.

30 years ago we had no clue on proper drying or curing methods but thatā€™s not the case these days. When you have black ash you are seeing the result of chlorophyll and sugars burning, not nutrients. Thereā€™s nothing anecdotal about that statement, that is tested and repeatable science. When carbon burns it turns black, where-as most nutrients when burned turn white. (Calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and magnesium all burn white.) Want more proof? Look at the tobacco industry, they actually used to add magnesium and calcium to produce white ash.

I run full strength Jacks 321 from start to finish, no flush. I dry at 60/60 for 10-14 days and then cure for at least 30 days. You will never see black ash, popping, or the like from any of my cannabis.

science hasnā€™t proven any of thatā€¦the different foods burn very differently and it has nothing to do with curingā€¦ with GH I can take a damp bud right off a hanging plant with zero cure and once its lit she burns clean and whiteā€¦ the Jacks does not do thisā€¦Jacks burnt black with a crusty ashā€¦ please do not come back with science has proven this and that because its simply either untrue or incorrectā€¦

I get that you are arguing from personal experience, butā€¦ Iā€™ve been using Jackā€™s for years and continue to do so, and havenā€™t seen that even once even on early chopped samples, so how would you reconcile our disparate personal experiences?

How do you smoke your weed ? where my issues were with smoking joints rolled with thin rice papersā€¦heavy black ash

Most often in a bong, except on weekends or when my kid comes to visit, which is when I usually smoke joints.

I have had these same issues with other foods as wellā€¦over the years( since early 90ā€™s) I have tried all sorts of foodsā€¦some good, some not goodā€¦ and of course I also found massive product inconsistencies batch to batchā€¦ in the end I just use basic 3 part general , it works super good, easy to find and consistent with a good product quality ā€¦ maybe Jackā€™s has made some refinements over the years, my batch is quite a few years old alreadyā€¦If i remember correct I even sent them a water sample so they could make sure it was the right food for the job

I found this in my files.
GH tweaked to kinda match Jacks.

Need advice from growers who use JACKā€™S line for a longer time (years or so ) . I start using with little bit modify formula , plants are in 6-7 week of flowering looking extremely healthy and green , but flowers looking small and leafy , with sugar leaves sharp pointing up . Do you guys use 321 from start to finish and have you experienced any problems . Also the delay with the flowers it could be the lacking of sunny days , it has been bad June not so sunny ( greenhouse-light dep ) .

Feeding Schedule - Sheet2.pdf (35.8 KB)

I wouldnā€™t think Jackā€™s formula had anything to do with GHā€™s formulaā€¦ GH is massive with the best product on the market they have no need to copy

I was making the copy, for exampleā€¦

If someone has a bunch of GH nutes, but wants to emulate Jacks formula at the PPM level, my spreadsheet could help someone do that. (Iā€™m one guy with extra GH nutes! lol)

Various recipesā€¦

Hey everyone,

I have been using Jacks 321 for 2 years and have experimented with different mixes and MKP. The best results were always achieved with plain 321 at the exact ratios. Water to runoff so you flush out un-used nutrients and you shouldnā€™t have any issues. This fertilizer seems to work best with high frequency fertigation so the nutrient concentrations in the medium remain constant. When it is run properly, no need for any additives aside from Humic/Fulvic/Kelp extracts every now and then. Biostimulants didnā€™t help for me.

If you fail to water to runoff you will get deficiencies/toxicities due to salts getting trapped in your medium, and not being flushed out during each watering.

Ive never had this happen with Jacks. Just finished a bowl. Nice light Grey ash. Dusty. Nothing black or hard.

Thats weird. Been using Jacks for 4 or 5 years now.

rice paper ! roll in rice paper and youā€™ll see ā€¦ now my Jacks is now at least 10 years old, maybe they have updated

I use rice paper for spring rolls not joints lol

Dont even know where to find rice rolling papers.

TBH the only time i get dark ash is when its not dried properly and when I flush
