James' Money-Pit Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Octopot!

Good tip, and I’ll try to do what I can. I was thinking earlier, and now you just cemented it… Gonna stick one of my probes outside the Octodomes and see what ambient RH reads inside the tent.

Current temp and RH in the domes is 77F and 73-75RH

Forgot to ask, and I’m seeing differnt answers all over…
Lights are 24/0 right now. I plan on keeping it that way at least until Skywalker pops. Should I keep lights at 24/0 or wait a week or two for the seedlings to develop, then move to 18/6?

Thanks!

Some people go 24/0 as when lights out it’s too hard to maintain correct temp , so leaving lights on suits them
Others can maintain easily the temp at lights out , these people do it to save electric etc

In summertime I 18/6 with 6 over hottest part of the day , in winter I’m 24/0

Either is fine : )

Thats my thought path as well. Seeds need Proper Temperature, Water and Air. The light doesnt really matter so much until seed pops, but thats my source of heat at this time.
Temperature is in the 50s currently in Vegas, and my house heater hasnt been playing well this season. So the inside temperature has been on the cooler side… too bad I’m not flowering something, lol. Vegas heat is coming soon.

Sticking with status quo for now. Hoping I come home to see Skywalker has popped.

Im in MN, and my basement gets down to the low 60s and rh in the 25-30 range. But, right we are having record high Temps outside a week after 5 days of subzero crap… lol My furnace isn’t running as much to cycle the heat around the house either.

I picked up a little 700w oil filled heater a few weeks before startimg the 2nd run knowing my basement was gonna be way to cold. And seems like the safest heater in a tent from a fire safety perspective since I am away from home more than I’d like to be.

I have it connected it to an aci uis outlet, and it’s working great for me so far. Running a 28"x55". Humidifier is on an inkbird, and have the exhaust set to 68 rh. This makes the tent ‘breathe’ in a way. Lol but it’s cycling in plenty of fresh air without killing the rh and temps.

Feel like I may have things somewhat dialed in at the moment!

*edit: did all this after trying to condition the lung room (entire cold af basement). This route was easier for my set up at least.

Yeah, its crazy what each of us deals with in different regions. Overall, Id say Im fairly lucky here in Vegas. Things stay on the drier side, so mold and mildew worries are minimized. On the other hand, both of my dries took less than a week total. That humidity is way low. I’m honestly surprised both of my harvests turned out so terpy and tasty. I did utilize a small portable swamp cooler during dry on my first grow. Was using the UIS switcher to turn that on and off. That one was wet trimmed. This last harvest was sent to drying tent completely…complete, lol.

I went with the low and slow frost free fridge dry method. Lotus method kind of thing.

I knew my basement rh was gonna tank around the end of my 1st grow around Thanksgiving, and that route eliminated my need to condition a space for drying. Should technically work anywhere, since it’s a sealed environment.

It worked exceptionally better than I thought it would. Smooth, terpy, and seems more potent. Myself and friends have all noticed and talked about how heady it is. Ha…

Found tons of info on the ‘Dr ziggys low and slow’ thread on the 420 mag site.

Pulled around 14oz dry on that first run. Filled that fridge and had to freeze the rest to wash later.

So here is in tent RH and temperature along with Under the Dome RH and temperature

Not too tough to guess which is which, LOL

As I’m about to write an entry in tonights Grow Diary advising of Skywalkers no show, I decided to check once more. I had checked earlier just around 6pm after Taking part in Stanlee’s Zoomie and fetch session (a daily part of my welcome home from work!) and was feeling a bit optimistic and hopeful so checked again, and there she is! All hunched over and just out of hiding…

I decided to update the photo of Blue Dream along with Slywalker Kush

She’s deifinitely taller today!

Looking good at another angle

Blue Dream offically the Older Sister by one day  :beers:

Going to give Skywalker Kush the chance to stretch out a bit today, then I think best to go to 18/6 schedule tonight? Im asking.

This morning before leaving for work, I checked her out and Skywalker is upright, Yee-haw!

Ive felt comfortable the past two grows running my plants from 6am-midnight Veg and 9am-9pm Flower. It works with my schedule fairly well. Gives me 2-3 hours at night if I need to mess with them after work during flower, but stops me at a “reasonable” time.

So, Im wondering whats to happen from here…

With training, both plants should be able to share the tent just fine. Both hybrids. One heavy Sativa-leaning and the other heavy Indica-leaning.
I started thinking yesterday evening after Skywalker popped, Blue Dream Flowering time 9 to 12 weeks, while Skywalker OG Flowering time 9 to 10 weeks. Im drying in this same 2x4 that Im growing in. So no option to have two separate harvests.

My last grows were “typical” 8-9 week Flowering time. They did just that. Does anyone here have experience with either of these strains? Im guessing theres differences from seed suppliers - ILGM to Dutch Passion, etc as well? Seems theres different specs for “same” seeds.
Blue Dream has the potential to go 2-3 weeks longer than Skywalker Kush.

The plan (Maybe not too well thought out) is to do the two girls in the 2x4 and start another “from seed” grow in the 2x2 a month or two later.
Im thinking maybe take a cutting from blue dream (whenever that would be ready) and start that off in the other Octopot (possibly even turbo system to catch up, then do both blue dreams in the 2x4 and Skywalker Kush in the 2x2?
Couldnt hurt to have extra Blue Dream, lol.

This thought-process is only due to the potential disparity in flower times and subsequent harvest and dry problems that could occur.

Thoughts?

Ive read up on that a few months ago. I was even looking into Cannatrol, but that guy is just gang-raping people at that price. Ive been on the lookout for a wine-refrigerator to store my weed at a decent temp, been looking into another (2nd) fridge for the garage to possibly dry/cure in.

Thats Awsome!
I love hearing that kind of stuff.

All told, If I kept the damn Costco water bottles to a minimum, Id have room in my outside fridge, but the thing is you have to run it at higher temperature for the Lotus type method, dont you?

Having the fridge set to keep water just above freezing, probably NOT the best environment for “my Precious”, lol.

thats the same one I read! Its a good read for sure. Lots of good info even if youre not planning to go that route.

No doubt about it, Rain Science Autoflower bag 7G is in my next grow. These things are awesome to touch and look at! Im sure they will grow just wonderfully.
These are the same price as the Rocket Sleeves with 8 Grommets and Handles. At this point, I get a grommet kit for LST and I’m good to go!

This mornings tent-cam…

Headed to Harbor Freight with Stanlee in a bit to pick up a PVC pipe cutter. Going to make the scrog net today

Things Stan and daddy do when Mom is working out🙂

Gotta love it!
Go to Harbor freight specifically to pick up PVC Tubing cutter because its cheaper than Home Depot.
Yeah. Left with a few extra things, lol.

Stanlee getting comfy on the new Grow Chair!
Decided to treat myslef, and now I can leave wifes step stool alone…

Got the scrog going as well…

Scrog netting complete! Notice the removeable caps…

For expansion, if needed.

Did some work on Rain Science bag as well.
This is definitely my next grow, no doubt about it!

Installed Grommets. Bag material is super tough to penetrate.Wasted many grommets.

Bag with roughly 4" hole cut to accomodate Hydro Wick.

Hydro Wick installed.
Notice how transparent the material becomes as you can clearly see the Hydro Wick.
Not like the folded-over material on the Octosleeves. This should allow even more transfer of roots to the reservior, although mine did quite a bit on last grow…

I’m sorry you ordered from them they are trashy white label seeds, and they are way over priced bullshit. Try multiverse or attitude, atlas , or Raw , masonic.

So here’s today…

Temperature and relative humidity looking pretty decent. Humidity will fluctuate and hit into the 70s.

PPFD is right around 190

Both girls are starting to sprout new sets of leaves!

I looked at multiverse. Didn’t waste my time looking at the others you listed. Are they all just seed banks? You’d still have to sort through the multitude of breeders they have and see which ones are worth a shit. Lotta work, and you really have no way of knowing the good from bad.

Thanks, though! Guess I should be happy my trashy, white label seeds even popped🤣
