Low success rate? I wasnt aware of that. I know some seeds have failed, just as many have failed in traditional soil pot grow. Mostly what I see is higher yield with comparatively less work to that of a “normal” grow with top water systems or bottom systems that dont utilize a hydro type feature (AC Infinity- ropes) like the Octopot.
So, you will take one growers personal failures/experiences and thats the standard you use for the growing world? Just a bit unrealistic. People have been germinating for years with great success in soil? Why shouldnt I try it and succed?
Jetdro advised of his experiences, and I took his words into consideration. He’s doing great stuff and has a cool attitude… His advise was considered along with others I’ve been in contact with, and made MY OWN DECISION to do an Old-school seed in pot Octogrow. That was stated in my original opening post before this thread started moving.
At this point, I think you should get over it. Maybe smoke a bowl or three
“So, you will take one growers personal failures/experiences and thats the standard you use for the growing world”
I was basing that on my experience with capillary,
never mind you obviously can’t be helped, it was easy to see earlier idk why I even tried to help
Good luck anyway
I bought the dome but never use them. They will do just fine with out them. There more work than there worth if you ask me.
Youre talking the Octodome? They’re a bitch to install on Rocket Sleeves, thats for sure! lol
Im sure theyre a bit easier on the OG Sleeves.
Installing them on the Rocket Sleeves does fuck up all the work I did packing everything so nicely.
Yeah I don’t use them.
I’ll keep them on for now. They serve a purpose. Once the girls progress, I’ll def remove the Octodomes.
Checked things out in the tent this morning before heading to work. Nothing showing yet, but its been just under 3 full days since germination started - roughly noonish Saturday 1/27/24.
In tent conditions are looking good.
Just a waiting game…
Patience has never been my strong suit, lol.
Yeah I meant the octo dome
I don’t know where you’ve garnered your information from but it’s mostly wrong
Who on earth ever said Octopot’s were hard to deal with they’re the Ronco of growing it doesn’t come any easier
The reason I don’t come from seed in the Octopot is because that generally defeats its whole intended purpose.
The unit is not designed to feed plants by wicking as a sole means of feeding the plant. it is basically designed to feed from the bottom and you will get the best results by having roots in the Rez.
Yes they grow just fine even with no roots in the Reservoir they will Wick enough and when the plants get large enough and fill the whole sleeve there’s plenty of water down low in the big sleeves.
growth is good that way but not optimal.
by starting a seed in the Octopot you pretty much guarantee you’re going to set the plant up to root in the bag not reach for the Rez
I come from well rooted in a Dixie cup I find they have the best success rate for finding the Rez quickly and not setting up homebase in the sleeve itself.
you appear to know most everything you obviously don’t need any of my help
Good luck on your fresh new experiment that has been done thousands of times by hundreds of people before
Heh. Today I learned what to try on my 3rd run now that I’ve gone from seed twice in octos.
I did have roots in the res on the 1st run, but you nailed it that’s the majority seemed to stay in the bottom part of the sleeve.
2nd run is almost into veg. Slower growing, but seems to be picking up momentum.
Exactly. My first Octopot experience was great. So we’re on the same page there!
I ignored various postings I’d found regarding poor performance (most people dont care to follow instructions, then they wonder,) etc and compared with good postings backed up with data and photos and made my choice. Other than being chained to my tent and unable to easily remove Octopot and attached plant for trimming, etc - Im sold.
Although saying it couldnt be easier and its the Ronco of growing, then telling the world to not follow the mfg instructions is a bit … We’ll just say it covers all the bases, lol.
I’m not so sure about that. Ive got no problem starting from clones or nurturing seedling then transferring it to the Octopot, but I stated early on I wanted to do a seed in pot Octogrow.
Star_Dog seems to have a major problem with that and it shows. Then he can cease to follow my threads. I would prefer that. He adds nothing. But searching his posts, that seems about right. Although it looks like he had deleted his offending posts.
Octogrower does from seed, and it works for him. I wanted to try it for myself. Simple as that.
I’m sure I’ll try that way soon. Maybe even in my upcoming 2x2 grow. I follow your grows. You know what youre doing for sure.
Right now, Im kinda following what Octogrower on Youtube did.
Once they are fully grown, I’ll check out the rootball. My last Octogrow was from cutting inserted into Soil 1-1.5". Big root ball in bag (mostly lower half, but went up tapering), and reservoir full of roots. I’d like to see how full term seed in Octopot compares in my home, with my “grow style”, etc…
Not at all true. But you think what you want. Join Star-Dogs hate train, or Dont. Ive made my thoughts toward you known. Good thoughts and comments to this point. Ive been very receptive to help from people all over. Im getting lots of info from many angles, and Im flying blind totally new at this. Just trying to grow the best weed I can, experiment and have some fun at the same time.
Great to hear that 2nd run is finding its pace!
Im wondering… What sleeve are you using? Original or Rocket? How was your hydro root system compared to the roots in the sleeve after your first grow?
I may start messing with soil depth on my next grow. Got some Rain Science bags arriving soon. Going to use on my 2x2 grow and try on my next 2x4 grow as well. They’re fairly tall at 15" and 12" diameter so should be a perfect fit for the Octopot base and Hydro Wick.
I’ll see how they are once they arrive and compare to my Rocket Sleeves.
At this time I’m filling about 2" from top of Rocket sleeve. I guess it just matters a certain amount of material height or thickness for the moisture gradient needed? May experinment with that a bit.
Do want the roots to hit res as soon as possible, Just need to work on the depth of soil needed in that particular (Rain Science) pot. I dont mind having dead space on top. I went for the tallest bag they had though, just to be safe!
First run was the originals, and those plants went beast mode on me. Was a little overwhelming at times being my 1st grow ever. Lol
Running the rocket sleeve for my 2nd run, also from germinated seed again (worked the 1st time, so ran with it). Sleeve is a little shorter and wider. I like that it covers the gap between the sleeve and the res that was there using the originals.
I think the octo creator Chris suggests no more than 2 inches of sleeve left at the top. So fill them as full as you can. Something about messing with the moisture gradient inside the sleeve if they aren’t filled to the top, or within 2" of the top.
New seedling is growing node 4 now I think, and can see the tiniest little leaves starting where the branches form.
Not even sure when veg officially starts yet (yep… I’m still new to this too!), but after reading through Jets and paps’ grows and comments, I’m really going to try and keep focused on the grow forward mindset on this one.
So next res fill, which will likely be today, I’m gonna start adding feed at 10% strength in anticipation of the roots heading towards the res and to promote node growth before I top.
Jet and Paps crush it in octos too. They’ve put a ton of work into figuring out what works and what doesn’t in octos. I’ll def try the turbo solo cup start then into octos on the next run.
Root system did find its way into the res, but after that run was over and I was emptying the sleeve, the roots did seem to circle up around the bottom of the sleeve.
Unsure why, but im guessing I may have done something wrong and likely Jets point about roots making the sleeve their home instead of the res.
Im right there with you on the Rocket Sleeve. Covering up the res to sleeve gap was huge for me purely based on aesthetics, lol.
Im totally clueless! I think its when theres a second or third set of “real” leaves. I think you’re there.
No doubt they have! Been watching and learning a bunch.
My next grow will be in the 2x2.5 tent with Rain Science pot, most likely. Probably do from seed on that one just because of the different pot. I dont want to change up too many things at once!
Thinking this weekend may be a nice time to build a decent scrog set up. Probably just head to Home Depot and grab some 3/4" PVC, String, Screws.
Ive been using the stretchy nets and they work, but def not optimal. Upping my Scrog game this grow and really need to be on-point for the upcoming 2x2 grow as well.
I may hang it with grow light ratchet hangers for convenience and adjustability. I’ll have to look and see what others are doing.
Had to update Blue Dream in the Jane app… She’s now an official seedling!
I’m so excited, I actually yelped when I saw it, lol. My wife thought something was wrong.
She was just there waiting for me when I got home this evening…
Nothing from Skywalker OG Kush yet. I’m sure she’ll pop soon
More good news… The Rain Science tall grow bags I ordered just arrived per USPS tracking. I’ll check them out tonight. They will be utilized in the upcoming 2x2.5 grow and for the next plants in this 2x4 tent, most likely.
The blue dream seedling that sprouted yesterday is a bit taller today. Still nothing showing from the Skywalker germination site, but Im sure soon enough.
As far as the Blue Dream seedling goes, Im still flying blind. Ive only taken from cutting, clone, and later seedling.
This lil gal is making me nervous…
The Coco-loco soil has nutes built in, so both should be good for at least a couple of weeks, I would think. I found a place locally that has Promix and may try that next grow. That way I can add my own to the mix.
Keeping my temp and light right where it is. At this very early seedling stage would people recommend to keep or remove the Octo-dome?
Whenever you decide to do it , lower it gradual over a few days to tent humidity , depending on difference between both humidities , bigger difference more days , less less days
