I snip the buds off and fill jars about 75-80% full for the cure.

Burp your jars. I usually do a couple times a day at first then once a day for 10-15 minutes. If you can pick up some inexpensive little hygrometers they do help you know when you’ve hit that sweet spot 60-62%. Picked some up on Amazon like 8 for 13 bucks I think.

Oh crap, I thought burping was just removing the lid & putting it back on. I leave it open for 10mins? So much for my tester jar.

I’m doing 1 full jar & one grove bag. To see the difference myself.

Never tried the Grove Bags but they do sound interesting. I have some large jars that hold about 3 1/2 oz when about 80% full. I open them for a few minutes with a light tossing for the gas exchange. I’ve used the quart size for oz and didn’t leave them open for quite as long. Part of the reason the Grove bags look interesting for me, less hassles.

I bought $60 worth of grove bags. Ended up going to buy more jars. Only use grove bags if you aren’t going to be dipping into them. After opening them 4-5 times the seal no longer held and the whole bag got super dry. Make sure they are at the perfect humidity you want to store them at because if you put them in the bags early and they get too high in moisture you have to open them up. Even the support from grove told me that opening them up is what ruined the seal and they are not for that.

I still have some left over unused bags across different sizes that I plan to try some long term storage and actually heat seal them. But so far I prefer jars, easy to get into for burping, stealing, etc and they seal right back up. I do use boveda packs, for about the last 9 months and I really like them.

I let mine dry to 60 and then sit there awhile. Then I put them into jars with no burping :+1:

Worse than that, half the bags I bought didn’t seal from the start. Sure the 1lb & 1/2lb bags I could see heat sealing but the ounce bags? They do seem to be poorly made.

I think I just may switch to all jars. I hate being sold junk.

It depends on how dry it feels. Its something you get a feel for. You put it in when it feels dry, but then the moisture from the stems seeps into the buds and makes them wet again. Then you dry that out and repeat. The idea is to slowly remove moisture, but to slow and it can rot, to fast and it smells/tastes like hay. The further along in the drying process, the less often you need to open them. But that first week or 2 you wanna check often. If you check and its really wet again, you might even want to lay it out for an hour or 2 until it feels dryish again. Also, dont worry if it goes from smelling good at chop, to smelling kinda gross for couple weeks. Its off gasing something or other, and if you do it right, the good smells come back as it cures.

Wow alright thanks. So basically it’s something that will take me at least a year or 2 to learn (or several harvests at least). That seems complicated for a newb to get, a lot of it seems like you go by look/feel & that’s just an experience thing right?

I did just order some tiny hygrometers

I may have made it sound harder than it is. Thats just how I do it. I’ve had batches turn out better than others and screwed up a couple times, but its really not to hard. Like my first year, I let one batch get to wet and ruined, and one got to dry and hayish, but I still had 6 others that were perfect. After that, I dont really have any problems, because I know how to get close enough. Basically, the margin for error is big enough to get right pretty quick.
If you get the meters, it should be even easier. I’ve been meaning to get some of those little ones from amazon for 2 years now, but still haven’t gotten around to it. I really want them for my grow spaces tho, more than for curing.

I have the opposite take on the bags .

Love them and how they work .

Mine hold steady and I’ve been in every one 30 times .

I do not heat seal

I am careful pulling the lock apart

Own 40 of them All work just fine didn’t get a poor one

I love the velvet touch feel and the ones with the graphics on it .

If your near Texas I have a 100 jars you may have

:sunglasses:

Different strokes for different folks

Cool man, I don’t have much experience, some of the bags may end up being fine. I just know a couple of the ones I bought (for like $10 a pop) at a shop didn’t seal/zip right correct from the start.

I’ve got one that sealed properly so far. Maybe that one will last for 30+ opens like yours. I’m about to find out :+1:

theyre expensive for what they are but they work reasonably well. i only have two left so i cant say theyre all perfect but i found the qp sized bags pretty amazing. i got my buds dry well before putting in there, sealed them with a vacuum sealer. accidentally mashed my buds up a bit too much. after three months i pulled one of the three bags out and was blown away by the quality.

i got the qp bags for about $2 which isnt cheap but… i mean thats a good amount of bud. worth it. going to try generic pp foil lined bags next season

They’ve had some bad production runs and are pretty good about replacing them if you email, from what I’ve heard, they’ll send replacements and probably extras if you send them a message with some photos

When you burp the jars, do you stir the bud at all or just leave it stuck together? Worried about messing up trichomes. Thanks for the advice in advance

I don’t burp anymore but when I did I would stir them up.

Don’t worry about losing a few trichs. I say “acceptable losses” to myself all the time.
