Johnnypotseed’s 3-ring circus - with autos, photos & sex…reversals, that is! (Part 7)

Me confused? Surely you jest… I guess I can blame it on the duloxetine. LOL

I am in the process of moving away from hydro and working to build living soil as you described. Microbes and lots of organic material, homemade compost and verma compost.

I just purchased 10 bags of mushroom compost to use this coming growing season. My compost is only about 3 months old and has completely stalled because of this deep freeze. Looks like we have several weeks of good weather here so hopefully I can get it back on track.

Sorry about the confusion… My Bad.

I up potted to an old chicken liver container on the back of the truck. The next big rain killed it . Drove around with it for several weeks.

@Gumbert ,if you can find aged cow manure it will replace the compost in most recipes just reduce the amount to less than 25% due to drainage. I use that and a bit of bone meal and some perlite and soil. I personally use a bit of lime ,but that is due to my area.

Most manures will work. i also use bone meal, etc

Thanks, I am in NW Florida and about the only manure compost I have available right now is Black Kow mature manure. Have you ever used that brand?

yep, nothing wrong with it. Also I’ve used lime, ash, silica etc

I haven’t but it has a good reputation on the boards. Outdoors I also add peat for moisture retention. So about 20- 25 percent peat , soil ,perlite, cow manure .If you grow outdoors in Fla you will need to set out plants as early as possible because July on is rot weather due to humidity there. Most growers flower April - June and again October-jan

lol so many different amendments I’ve tried. Some did ok, some were all hyped, I find to make my own is just better, for me. Seabird guano or bat guano gives you more bang for your buck, but it doesn’t do enough to make it worthwhile on a larger scale than a few plants.

I grew in Florida several times over the years. Owned a home there a couple times. I was like you said lol hell, I didn’t stick around Florida in the dead of summer! The only BIG outdoor grow(over 5000 plants in a bigass field, winter of '84) I did was my last, Rose was pregnant with our first born and I moved to indoor growing and haven’t looked back.

Oh surer, lol I DO miss that monster yield! But… I DON’T miss the weather, animals, insects, thieves, police

Later this year I should have access to cow manure from cows that I will know for a fact did not graze on " GrazonNext® HL". Most of the cattle ranches in this area use it and I have been burnt before with that…

I border a property line with a rancher that has now moved away from using it because it screwed up his garden.

I am thinking by next year I should be able to produce my own compost for amending my fields. At least that’s the plan…

Sound like ya got this by the short-n-curlies, my friend
oh, lol I’ve also gone out into the woods/forest and dug my own topsoil/forest loam

LOL! Don’t know about that… I know how to grow tomatoes, peppers and cukes, just never attempted to grow weed for my medicine, but right now I am all in! Need to get off that poison that the VA keeps pushing…

That may have been me earlier. @Gumbert
I ran a small recirculating DWC system for a couple years before I switched to soil and expanded a little.
6 five gallon buckets all flowing back to a 15 gallon res. Always recirculating and air stones in every bucket plus the res. I’d like to set it up again one day under my current flower lights as I only ran it with old blurps. It did pretty nicely and I do miss it at times.

Y’all may recognize that as the current veg closet. :joy::+1:t3:

Might have been… I grew hydro almost exclusive from 2008 but in 2023 I started researching the soil food web and now I am all in. I packed up most of my hydro stuff and put it away in my storage shed. my current plan is to experiment with indoor, outdoor and greenhouse.
