I need a microscope and wanting to grab a smaller brewer so I can experiment and see what’s going on under the scope I bought one last year but I didn’t know how to use it so I got frustrated and just sent it back lol I just been using KIS premix bags but I want to get my own compost to brew sooner than later I still have almost 5 gallons of organic blackstrap molasses hopefully it doesn’t expire I’ve never used that stuff before last year not sure its shelf life
Molasses is almost a preservative it has so much sugar in it, I doubt it would go off.
The kelp is fresh, so I just liquidise it with a bit of water and freeze in cubes, then just add to water for teas or water it in, or top dress with it for worm food.
That’s cool as fuck I don’t live near a beach though maybe one of the greatlakes? I’m close to eerie
Not sure if freshwater weed is as good as seaweed, but I think it would be good to use. Silt from lake beds is very high in nutrients, you want the black stuff in the top couple of inches, but it needs to be oxygenated a lot as it’s all anorobic bacteria.
I probably have all the stuff to make something simple like that for a 5 gallon already is that what you’re doing?
Black stuff? I’m trying to think I’m really close to the Ohio river I don’t think I’d use anything out of that river though
That’s stuff definitely smells anaerobic. My wife knew it as catfish mud growing up.
You will get a layer of black stuff just under the surface layer, it will stink bad because it’s anorobic, just lots of fine plant matter.
Just took a pic of my kelp tea.
Ohh gotcha
Top dress or foliar? I mean what are you supposed to use for foliar? Everything says you can foliar with it but what actually benefits the plant from a foliar over a top dress?
Foliar is more of a quick fix. Top dress is more long term. They are probably best when used in conjunction.
I’m sure shady will have more on the subject. He has more experience than I.
I get that part foliar is a quick fix for a nutrient deficiency but is there anything that is better feeding it foliar over top dressing like the seaweed extract I have for example is it better to foliar seaweed?
As Badger says the only difference is it gets into the system more quickly, but there are times when it’s better to foliar feed, like in a high humidity environment, when the plants are not drinking so much from the soil and nutrient uptake is slow, or you soil pH is out of whack causing the same nutrient uptake problem. Also foliar feeding with minerals like Epsom salts is good as it prevents mildew problems.
Now I didn’t know that about the humidity thing I know they drink less in high humidity through the roots never thought of it that way they taking in less nutrition I’ve never tested my soil I figure it buffers itself out and even if I did a slurry test I figure in a larger pot its probably different corner to corner idk I’ve never actually tested it now I’m kinda curious
With the amount of soil in your big pots you would have to do something really drastic to put the ph out of whack.
If you have complete control of your environment you can regulate growth easier just adjusting temps and RH,
a good situation if your soil is hot, just raise humidity to slow uptake of nutes and stopping the plants burning.
Damn I never thought of that that’s cool I’m hoping to have full control inside this shed oh I almost forgot they’re coming this Thursday to install the foam!! Just want to fill in some cracks between the floor boards and add a lacquer before they get here then I think that will mostly have it all sealed up besides the door idk how you’d seal a door in tightly I’ll have to google it besides adding a secondary door in front of the door but I really don’t want to draw more attention to it it’d be questionable as why I added a door in front of the door lol
The doors on my cabinets are sealed by half inch draft excluder glued around the frame, stops light and air getting in. The only place air gets in is through a vent in the cab.
