Would you guys say it’s worth it? I’ve been looking at one the past couple weeks and right now amazon got them on sale.
Damn the amazon sale makes me want one
Seems like it would make my life a hell of a lot easier than worrying about decarbing for a certain time and temp.
To me it is. But I’m lazy.
@neogitus it certainly does cut down on the labor. You still have to be vigilant on decarbing.
Oh yeah IMHO, I think it is a worth the money …so far.
I bought a QuarterMaster machine from the guy that designed one of the first table top machines to do extractions back in the late 70’s. He did not manufacture it back then, some one else did.I used it for years.
He released one a few years ago that was all just repurposed stuff, The Quarter Master, with a really crappy extraction vessel, that when I put a small bright battery op LED into it, sealed it up, turned off the light in the room, light beams poked out all around the cheapo seal. If light escapes, so does vapors…not cool.
Then after 4-5 runs, it stops working. I take it apart, and they used tiny power wires that burned themselves in half, WTF?
I contacted them many times and tried every RubeGolberg trick he offered me to try making seals and what not. JUNK!
MBM worked a treat for me, and again the decarb box with the probe, not necessary maybe, really helped me see how out of whack our fairly new oven is to the dial setting. I need to set 275F to get a true 250F.
@webeblzr Great. I’m glad I picked one up while they were on sale. I probably wont get to use it until around Christmas time, but I couldnt pass it up. I was looking at the decarb box as well. Think it’s really needed? I still need to do more research on the whole decarb process but I have time. I seen on the product description that its smell proof. Does that hold true?
If not going with the decarb, I would suggest you really do a good oven temp check. I was shocked by how far off ours is. It does help, but I’ll shy away from needed. I did not want it but when it came, I decided to not return it. I can also load it out to others in our circle.
I was surprised to see how far off my oven was when I calibrated it with a thermometer designed for the oven - it was off by 15 degrees at 240 degrees, so I set it at 225 now instead. That 15 degrees could make a big difference when decarboxifying the plant material.
Hey guys. I did end up ordering the decarb box as well. Since I’m in an apartment I figure anything to trap the smells some will help. Air fresheners can only do so much. I’ll let you guys know when i use it. Itll be around christmas time. Thanks all for your help and input
Heads up. The butter machine will emit plenty of aroma too. Would not recommend in an apartment if you need to hide it from neighbors.
Will it. That sucks. I thought it wouldnt because it’s a sealed unit. Oh well. One way to find out how bad it is. Good thing I have plenty of incense sticks. I still like that’s it set it and forget. Years ago when I made butter it was a shitty process of constant watching and stiring
I do think it helps with smell, but yeah, it is not gone.
I used my MBM for the first time today. I decarbed 3+ ounces last night on a cookie sheet. This morning I softened 4 cups of refined coconut oil, added sunflower lecithin, then crammed as much bud as would fit up to the Max fill line.
I ran a two hour cycle at 160°, let it cool a bit, then poured through the straining bag while squeezing with the glove. It’s running the cleaning cycle now.
I can’t yet comment on the recipe or potency but it was so simple to use. In the past I’ve spent hours manually infusing oil and butter. I needed to take it easy since I’m recuperating from a medical procedure a couple days ago, and the MBM made that possible.
What all have you made with this thing. I have one in the cart. Reviews seem too good to be true. Will this extract or just a heated blender ? Ive been doing qwet for a while just wash dry and smoke but i want to take the extract and make candies. I like rosin or smokable oil too. Will this do either if i just set it differently ? My friend has a honey business. Local bee farm. He wants to infuse honey with my my local marijuana. That way 100% of the product is sourced local and no middle man.
I told him we need to buy a press. A real one and eat the $1000
He googled this machine and i woke up to the link. Reviews seem staged
The infusion with honey is its own trick. I told him we need extract pure with less than 10% moisture or the honey will spoil. Honey must maintain exact moisture or it crystalizes too. Idk should i try it? If not for honey can this at least make candies easily(gummies or hard candy like jolly ranchers ) thanks for reading the book. Any input appreciated
Great for edibles, don’t know that it’d work for honey, it’s tightly sealed so I’m not sure any water would come out. It’s magical for sure, to make a tincture or butter, but I wouldn’t count on it for much else.
That said… if you were already smoking QWET you might be disappointed, this is not a quick wash, you get FULL extraction. But I don’t know that you couldn’t smoke FECO, would just be awful grassy.
Ok thanks. So it does blend n all and releases lot of chlorophyl. I was planning using dry material cause water is a no in honey. Thanks for info. Im not ordering yet. If nothing else it seems it will do the infusion with extract as a starter. For $200 thats still a plus to be able to blend and control temps of the honey. Looking like decarb and extract might have to be done outside the machine. So back n forth but i still think a press and this lil infuser is the answer. I keep telling him first step is purest highest potency extract then infuse. He thinks this $200 machine can do it all i see decarbing in oven pressing dry material and using the press juice to infuse best but im no scientist.
The folks who make the Magical Butter machine publish a recipe for infused honey:
- 14-28g Decarboxylated Botanicals, per cup of Honey used
- 2-5 cups Honey (local recommended)
- 1 tablespoon Distilled Water, per cup of Honey used.
I have made butter and coconut oil in my MBM. I do not regret the purchase.
Acquired a used one recently and have used it twice, works great! Only done canna butter so far!
I’ve got 3oz decarb’ed flower and a 750ml bottle of 190 proof Everclear ready to throw in to the machine, but in my searches I’ve found some websites saying to run with no heat, others say @ 130°. MBM’s official recipe says 1/2 to 1oz decarb’ed flower per cup of alcohol - I’m on the high end but that ratio should work - and run for either 4 hours @ 130° or 8 hours for “stronger flavor and deeper intensity”.
My questions for those who have made tincture in a Magical Butter Machine:
130° or no heat? I imagine some heat reduces the need to evaporate in order to concentrate the tincture
What differences have you experienced between 4 hours or 8 hours runtime? I know a lot of people try to mask the cannabis in their recipe so making the flavor stronger would be counterproductive, unless we’re talking more potency (better medicine)?
I have never worked with Everclear before. How worried do I need to be about igniting alcohol fumes? Do I need to run the machine away from my kitchen where there is a gas stove?
I’m still loving the MBM for infusing coconut oil. I’ve settled on an easy recipe:
3 cups decarb’ed flower
30oz of coconut oil
3 TBSP sunflower lecithin powder
I’ll use 1/2 cup of the resulting product to make 40-50 doses - usually in the form of a recipe that yields 4 dozen cookies. No complaints from anyone who tries them, but I’m looking forward to making hard candy with tincture. I’m thinking about an infused hot sauce using peppers from my garden…
So, after all this time, how high, I mean satisfied, are you all?
I have a few ounces & some bubblehash to infuse, have done the alcohol, didn’t like the burn , MCT oil seemed to require refrigeration & had some go rancid even in there.
Is the decarbing fully necessary? It seems like a slow infusion would do it at the same time…(?)
ready for your instructions
I’m still loving the MBM for infusing coconut oil. I’ve settled on an easy recipe:
3oz (not cups!) decarb’ed flower
30oz of coconut oil
3 TBSP sunflower lecithin powder
Thanks for bumping this thread. I mistakenly listed the amount of flower I add in the post above. I use 3oz of flower, not cups. That much plant material will get right up to the Max Fill line.
Decarboxylation happens with time and heat. It’s a sliding scale where you can use less heat but more time, or vice versa. The key is to leave the THC intact, so temps must be kept below the vaporization point. I do 40 minutes on a cookie sheet in the oven at 240°F. The MBM decarb website mentions 30 minutes at 250° or an extreme of 10 minutes at 266°. There is no mention of the machine’s infusion cycles being appropriate for an effective decarb. I think those sub 200° temps won’t give as good results.
Coconut oil is still my favorite. I keep it refrigerated because I have the space. Some people keep a beer fridge, but I have one for edibles and concentrates. It takes me a while to go through a 30oz jar of infused oil, but a quick search says it should remain shelf stable for two years at room temp.
