Ive been growing organic for about a decade and notill for around 8 of those years. The whole time ive been studying soil life and how to do this as cheap and as easy as possible! Feel free to ask any questions!
How old is your oldest no-till bed/pot?
Looks great!
What strain?
Do you use Korean Natural Farming and JADAM at all?
I had one go for 6 years till i needed to get a soil test so i could fix biology and balancing of nutrients and minerals
This one is blue ice by jordan of the island. Blueberry x white widow x haze! Its soooooooo good. I actually started out with knf before i did notill!
Excellent. Do you continue to use ferments and other inputs from KNF?
I sure do! Mainly ohn, lab, and fpj/ffj nowadays. No time for imo, but ive added it before so im sure the life is still kickin!
I like it, look forward to seeing more beautiful flowers! Iāve been using KNF and JADAM outside in my veggie garden and love how well it works with natural local inputs.
Whatās the smallest pot youāve had success running no till in?
Whatās your starting soil mix? and what are your tips and tricks for doing notill cheap and easy?
What were the results oy the soil test? What were the required steps to remedy your soil? Did any of this information give you insight on better soil mix or gardening practices that could help you achieve better than six years?
im also wondering what the results of your soil test were and what you had to do to āre-balanceā things?
I started my no-till containers using 1 part pumice, 1 part malibu compost, and 1 part peat moss. Plus rock dust, biochar, neem seed meal, crab shell meal, and kelp meal. Inputs include aloe gel soil drench, corn sprout tea, malted barley powder top dresses, vermicompost from worm bin, and cover crop.
I have no idea how much of each I should be introducing to the bed I just try to take a macro approach to every thing and have no idea if my containers are maybe too rich or lacking in somethingā¦
I also had to throw away my no-till containers a year ago after running 3 or 4 cycles with them because I got fusarium wiltā¦
I have done it in a solocup. Even had worms in the cup. The cup was pure castings by the time it was done. Veg to flower in it! I use the coots mix mainly. A tad modified but mainly the coots mix.
To do it cheap you need to have time. 18 day thermo composting is the bomb! collecting things like stinging nettle, comfrey, yarrow, horsetail etc. To use in the compost pile and you make meals or ferments with! Stuff to replace the need to buy kelp, neem, barley, etc.
Everything was wack on the test. It was a chore and a half to think about trying to fix it. Mainly compost to fix it although it didnt work like i wanted. I find letting nature do its thing is best. Testing soil before hand to make sure its not fucked. Not adding so much shit. Brewing teas etc. The soil will fully turn to castings over time and will have to be mix with more peat and aeration to create more soil. Castings alone is a poooor medium for plants or worms to live. And this will always happen in pots.
Soil test BEFORE amending the soil. Then amend accordingly instead of just following a recipe. Your compost could be holding much more or less nutrients so following a recipe can fuck you up
Iād love to hear more about your compost process! 18days!
If you were to start over how would you build 100 gallons of soil?
And when and how often would you recommend getting soil tests done?
Also, were you ever a member of the Growtube discord? Swear your name looks familiar
Id use the coots mix but only use whats needed. I would probably test the soil once every year or two. And yessir. Notillhippieš still am mod there but i dont use it much anymore.
Same question as guy asking about what topdress. Ogs tend to eat up everything in the soil fast. What should I top dress and how often?
