PFFs Indoor RDWC grow journal

I’m closer to 30 than I am to 20, haha.

A chiller is on my Christmas wish list, I hope Santa is nice to me.

Ah, finally out of the Depression Pit.

One of the reasons I grow is that I medicate for a variety of mental issues. One of those is depression. Unfortunately when depression comes to visit, things tend to go to shit.

The garden is not excluded from that.

Nothing died, but they sure aren’t happy. I did a res top up and nute redosing. I also flipped the entire room to flower today. I just want them out, I don’t care that the end flower will suffer.

I also moved my micro experiments that are flowering into the big room:

The Devil Cookies is stanky af, and I love it. She’s frosty and loving life in the new ebb and flow system. The other 2 clones, a GG#4 and a GSC are also flowering but are far less fragrant.

So I’m more or less conceptually happy with my micro mother/micro flower experiment. Clearly there are details to learn and things to perfect, but I think this can work for me.

To whit, I’ve started configuring the cabinet for the perpetual grow.

The moms also suffered during the Depression. Hopefully they’ll bounce back. Right now they’re running under a janky home made SIL fixture, but eventually they’ll get a light upgrade:

I went ahead and jumped on the Bridgelux bandwagon when I saw Digikey had a bunch of Gen3s in stock and the price wasn’t outrageous. I ended up ordering way too many, so I’ll probably end up with 4 lights that I’ll run underpowered, but we’ll see.

Also pictured is a fan upgrade for the big room, but I might hold off on installing those because the room as it is isn’t working for me.

I chopped the white widows a few weeks back, didn’t bother weighing them. It looks like I pulled about 2 oz from both plants combined, which is about what I expected. Smoke is good and smooth, jar fragrance just over 1 week of curing is lackluster but when ground up, it’s a really nice citrus scent. Strong with a nice moderate head/body stone. I might end up actually getting a few weeks of curing out of this before I finish it, so I’ll get to see if curing helps that bland jar fragrance.

I hear that! It’s always darkest before the dawn and all that stuff. When there’s a level 3 biohazard in the lab that just won’t quit…ohh man. Phew, dark thoughts! The plants can regenerate when they hit the bloom phase, they should double in size.

That’s what I’m hoping for. I’ll give the girls a hair cut next weekend and remove all the damaged leaves to encourage some new growth. At some point this week I also want to take a set of clones from the moms that are ready (the LSD and Cheese have some shoots I can nab) to throw into the flower room. New clones every week is the goal!

Wow, it’s been a while.

In true 2020 style, I’m closing the year out by sharing an utter failure.

I’m in the process of shutting down my big closet grow as my “big” 5 girls “finish” up:

I’m still puzzling what to do with these girls. It’s nothing but larf and popcorn buds, so I’m wondering if I should either:

  1. Cut off all the flowers wet, stash in my freezer and plan a bubble hash or live BHO run (I really don’t like doing BHO, but I’ve never done bubble hash before)
  2. Cut off all the flowers wet, dry them on a mesh tray and make edibles/tincture or:
  3. Hang the branches to dry then try to get whatever smokable buds I can, then make edibles/tincture from the rest.

Recommendations?

I’ve learned a lot from this room. I don’t think I ever truly chased down what was crisping up my plants, but I switched the lights to blurple mode about a month ago and it seemed to have stopped whatever was going on, so maybe it was too much light?

My biggest lesson from this room is that I can’t be trusted to proactively monitor things if I have passive monitoring available, and I can’t passive monitor multiple reservoirs.

The good news is that I’m having some success with my ebb and flow, though I think they also suffered from low light levels as I adjusted for the cooked plants:

That’s a nice and tall LSD that’s about half way through flowering.

This will probably be my last grow update in this thread, as my growing style going into 2021 is going to be completely different from this thread. I’ve done a lot of work on my cabinet and will be switching over to growing solely from a single cab, pending the results from an experiment I’m running right now that will change the design. I’ll definitely be starting a new thread for 2021 and outlining my current growing style and tracking the results.

Holy shit, I wondered what you were up to! Any buds that look like nobody would “purchase” them I make into tincture. Higrade hash buds I make into bubble hash

I’m leaning towards #2, simply because once most of that crap has dried it’s gonna be hard to find, haha.
