I’ve been using that 3 part recipe for about 15 years. Keep in mind, I use RO water. If you use tap water, your results may not be similar to mine. Of course, that means your results could be superior to mine! I have well water with super low pH, so I have a chemical injection system to neutralize my water as it comes into the house. I don’t really have a choice but to put that water through an RO system for my garden.
lol - now ur gonna make me try both city tap and some well water from a deep well i have access to for sh*ts and giggles.
as always, thnx for the good info
Excellent design and build. On my to cobble list.
I was curious about the nute breakdown.
Using ML per gallon. (Based on Tsp = 5ml.)
What water temperature range and PH works well for system?
That bin is exactly the same as the on use for my grow space. Mine is 112 liters /27 gallons aprox
nice, they are pretty cheap and they do hold up well. this one is the small 26L/7gal. i should fit 16 of the 2" neoprene inserts with plenty of space to spare for this size and it will hold plenty of water. hopefully my lazy arse will finish this weekend.
TBH, I don’t concern myself with the temp of the water, but it’s basically going to mirror the room temp. The pump is small enough that it can run constantly without heating up the water. However, in the winter months, if I have the bucket in one of my cooler grow areas, I might sit it on a heat mat hooked up to a controller.
As for pH, I can’t remember the last time I checked, but it’s been years. My RO water is about 5.9, and with the GH 3 part and the CalMg, it probably increases to about 6.2.
You are asking me questions that actually highlight why I love this setup. I can set it and forget it. As I’ve said before, I’m not very intelligent, so I like to keep things simple. I always try to find the most efficient and cost effective way to do things without sacrificing quality.
(well that didnt work, it was spsd to be a gif - sry, im new here)
I’ve used these in my mist propagation sandbeds… they do a nice fine mist, especially compared to those red ones which are more sprinkler like…
“Tornado Mister - Press Fit (5 Pack) - Misters - Drip Irrigation — DripWorks.com” Tornado Mister - Press Fit (5 Pack) - DripWorks
And these
“Vari Mister (5 Pack) - Misters - Drip Irrigation — DripWorks.com” Vari Mister (5 Pack) - DripWorks
Those are nice, @Nagel420, and I’ve bought from dripworks myself.
The first one you listed requires the purchase of other parts, so the price is significantly higher than the nozzles I use. The second one says it’s for use with 1/4" tubing. Which are you using? Can you show pics of the spray pattern?
I can snap a pic tomorrow in the mist bed. I’ve used both, the first one with anti Drip devices and i didn’t need the anti Drip ultimately… both made the same mist pattern really… fine mist. Might be interesting to catch in a photo lol but I’ll try
from rooting in solo cups I can definitely tell a difference in time to root if the water is warm. In the 80 F range seems to work best but then algae…so I change it out…for one or two it works
Algae tends be become an issue if light reaches the nutrient solution. If I don’t change the water in my white bucket with the white lid after a couple of weeks, I’ll start to see hints of green on the top of the lid near some of the grow sites. Fortunately, I can see it early, so I can clean it up and change the water. That’s also why my new bucket and lid (shown in the tutorial) are blue and black (respectively).
thats where I would keep my bubble cloner. 76F would be slower rooting than 80F for me, no question… Needed a heater just to bump it up a few degrees. No algae really as the bin is dark…
on the next one i may try something like those if this one doesnt work out as expected. i may also try these from clone king and do a straight swap. they are expensive but it seems like they get a pretty fine spray and the design looks somewhat diff then the cheapies i got
they probably will be the exact same spray though :-/
thanks! i was wondering about temp. i was thinking about putting a fish tank heater inside the bin since i have them sitting around.
I can snap a pic tomorrow in the mist bed.
So its been a bit rainy…
Hope this shows how fine the mist is… Its the same for both misters, they just have different attachment methods really
thats what i was looking for exactly.
i think though i was looking for that fine of a mist because it was my expectation that it was required to do a good job.
luckily it doesnt sound like it is so i’ll stay the course. definitely going to finish her up this weekend and i’ll post the end results
thanks again @Purple-N-Hairy and @Nagel420 for all the info and input!!
@Nagel420, that’s a might fine mister, mister!

You are exactly correct, @CornbreadJunior. A super fine mist like you see in @Nagel420’s picture is NOT necessary. I don’t think I need to provide any more proof than I already have with the spray nozzles I use.
It would be interesting to see that sprayer hooked up to a system like the one I built, because that’s clearly not simply plugged in to 1/2" tubing. But it certainly looks like you could get away with using just one to cover the inside top of a bucket.

indeed sir, indeed.

my lazy is loving this, one and done for your bucket. and for the one i built 2 and done possibly
My misters needed to be that fine for the intermittent mist sand beds, they get misted for 10 seconds every 10 minutes, sunup to sun down. I clone ornamental landscape plants there. For a cloner tub, I can see em being gentler on new roots than some other misters I have here, but not an absolute necessity. Splash from my current bubble cloner seems rougher and I get roots just fine.
