Well I’ll be damned. I never even bothered to search it because I figured it was probably more complicated than I wanted to mess with. Now I’m tempted to scare myself with naked plants.

I always feel like I’m over or under defoliating, so it’s funny that the first time I find some hard and fast rules they’re so extreme.

Anyone worried about stripping your plants down to sticks; don’t worry. Can’t find the image but I’m razzed for the “brutality” of my defoliations and then un-razzed by the end of harvest with baseball bats (or) @slick1 “esqe” “donky dicks” hanging up to dry.
The plants will be fine as long as they have a healthy root system with is all what @Qtip’s skills are showing us

I think if the roots have room to grow, schwazzing an auto would result in same thing as doing it to an photo. Just speculation on my part but I will give it a try next indoor auto. I topped and HST my last auto and had it in small pots but didn’t schwazz, they were pretty runty.

I’d avoid doing it with a “fixed photo period plant” as anything diverting it’s energy to what it naturally wants to do may stunt.
I experimented with near total defoliation every 7 days in rdwc. Plants grew gorilla hands; but ALL 
.
Great smoke and a lot of it… but way too much work to go though again.

My focus is geared towards pressing rosin so I do minimal trimming after drying and before they go in the bags. If I was growing for flower I would focus on less tops.

I just stripped tf out of mine. They don’t look as bare as the pics above but I took at least a hundred off this Ewok x CDLC! It was like I couldn’t stop once I got started 
do you guys do this to flowers holding seeds also? I’m about to make some feminized lip smackers and was going to continue w this craziness unless the seeds will need the leaves?
And, btw, that’s the only time I would want donkey dicks in my house

I’ve not stripped seeding plants… yet. I doubt i would as I want all those solar cells making me BIG seeds vs blocking the flower sites when wanting buds.

I had not done too much defoliation… just here and there. But I had lollipopped the hell out of this one. It was a plant that I thought was going to be auto and ended up being photo so it vegged forever lol I just kept taking stems off that were lagging behind. When I took all those extra leaves off I could just feel hear my baby’s sigh of relief lol

I defoliate mostly for airflow reasons and sometimes because I just don’t like the look of it.
I also usually strip the bottom third of the plant for airflow reasons and lack of light penetration through a thick canopy.
Nothing excessive.

I didn’t get a pic before lights went out but I will tomorrow. She still has a lot of leaves. She’s so big
