I have a new grow room with at 6 inch inlet from the outside. What would you guys use to filter the air before it comes into the room?
probably some type of hepa filter
6 inch hepa filter. Search for vacuum cleaner filters on eBay that will fit. They don’t cost much.
Hi @hewhocoruptz
Generally you would filter the air before it leaves the tent at the top. This stops the pungent dank smell being pumped out to your postcode zone
You can also filter the air on the way in, though I’ve not heard of that… depending on your grow area you will need a different capacity fan… it’s measured in cfm (cubic feet per min)
Have a Google for a hydro shop and lookup extractor system’s you would do well depending on your light solution to consider a temperature sense speed controller for the extractor that kicks in on the area getting too warm.
Happy growing bud
My air quality is great, so I only need to worry about keeping bugs out. All I use is some window screen material. A HEPA will work but its going to restrict your airflow a lot.
If all you need is fresh air, then that restriction probably wont matter, but if you’re like me, you need that fresh air to cool the tent as much or more than you need fresh air.
Bottom line - you may need to up-size your fan to compensate for the reduced flow if you need HEPA for good air quality AND you need cooling air.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I’m pretty much in the same boat as @anon32470837 with using the air to cool down my room. It’s going to be a sealed room in my basement.
I’ll have one of these to control the air intake fan also: Dual Stage Digital Temperature Controller
I have two of the cheaper (ST1000) versions of the same controller. The cheaper ones that you have to wire yourself. That one is nice because all the wiring is done for you.
One controls the fan in my air inlet tube just like you’re talking about doing. That same one also controls a small heater that comes on at night. Between the heater and the fan I can keep the tent temps between 74 and 78 most of the time. The second one controls an aquarium heater in my rez. Water temps out of my tap are in the mid 50s at the moment and my rez stays too cool unless I heat it. That may not last much longer though. Outside temps are going up fast.
Im going to have to do something new soon, I dont have central cooling, or even a window AC unit in the grow room, so my room temps can easily get up into the hi 70’s/low 80’s on a hot day. Once my room temps gets much above 72, I cant keep the tent within that range.
