I have not seen this myself, though I’ve heard the rumors. If you want to experiment, I will be watching with wide eyes.
Maybe your experiment could answer some questions I have. For example, will these plants flower again automatically? Will they flower again under 12/12? Will they never flower again? And what I really want to know is, if they do flower a second time, will they still pass on the autoflowering trait???
I’m gonna say yes, because you aren’t changing any genetics… Environmental factors are in play, not the genes composition. Since you aren’t adding genes into the mix, unless its a mutation at a genetic level (highly unlikely), I have to imagine it would pass on the trait…
I have watched a guy clone an auto. I can’t see how you could make it veg again since it runs on a timer and the flowering on the clones did take a bit longer but it was successful.
I’m just starting to learn about epigenetics, which has me questioning it. If the auto expression is masked by epigenetic expression causing the plant to become a photoperiod, perhaps that trigger is also inherited (research says some are some are not).
After decades of learning how to graft corals onto one another, frag/clone the most difficult to grow corals, I can assure you my grows will be very Mr. wizard like. I will be super glueing away soon to see if I can graft strains onto one another VERY soon Reefkeepers will understand…
For instance, I basically said nonsense to the doubters and conventional wisdom and saw what I could do once I decided to try hst and lollipop and defoliate most of my autos heavily starting from week 2-3. I said, what the hell, took all my lower branch cuttings stuck them in rapid rooters in a pan of water to see what would happen…
Here’s some of the progression… this is only a smattering as I had two other pans of clones in another tent. One set was sprayed with STS 3 times over the course of 4 weeks and continued to grow and develop, but not show signs of reversal before I tossed them due to finding some signs of spider mites on one. These things were just on a pan on my cold basement floor/tent… I WILL accomplish a BX1 and R1 of reversed or male auto clones this grow if it kills me
STOP teaching me stuff! (really, don’t listen to that statement LOL)
Our paths MUST have crossed man… But I don’t think we wanna use superglue here. Perhaps might I suggest honey? lol
I want to say @PetalPowerseed did some grafting work with cannabis, and it indeed does work… Might be an awesome way to make a mom who makes cuttings available of several strains… (obviously thats geared towards photos, or “permanently revegged” autos)… Though it would make cuttings that wouldn’t be auto anymore, would they flower with a 12/12 trigger. hmmm… packing another bowl to dwell on this…
Well, we’re going to find out what happens when someone who has no clue what they’re doing (me) grafts an auto onto photo rootstock… Cause it will be attempted this grow.
I have a few published articles, an RC TOTM and have several stickies on various reef keeping forums so perhaps. And I’ve been involved in several macnas…
I was probably among the first people to figure out how to frag and sustainably grow and frag Acropora and Goniopora. A couple pics from my other farm…
Haha me too man. I’m out of SW hobby & back into planted Nanos again. Must stop with addictive hobby, except Cannabis. Cannabis makes things better
Post whatever SPS photos you want, but just know IF I post a Pico Reef on here, it’s 100% your fault lol I’m also sure 40% of OG’ERS are retired Reefers lol
Yeah, that book was riddled with advertisements IIRC… That’s when I and many others refused to support him and his products and he kind of faded into obscurity after that. Guy was charging $15 retail for a tablespoon of kalkwasser back in the 80’s.
I had a 5 day power outage this summer that wiped my system and tent. It was brutal… A few things survived, but between the plants that were mid flower and the corals I probably could have bought a Porsche GT3 had I sold them… This after as similar loss after trying to move an established mixed reef with lots of SPS 5 years ago. I can’t afford reefkeeping right now since I’m starting a business and left my cushy salary and narcissist boss behind 18 months ago, plus cannabis is so much easier and less stressful.
It killed hundreds of corals, and hundreds more rainbow bubble tips along with 30+ fish. It even killed most of my aiptasia. All that survived is a blue haddoni carpet and some zoas and goniopora. Was odd what survived…
