Rob’s on going grow journal

Thanks for the info man… I’ve heard of a thing called a reservoir chiller haven’t looked it up yet may be something work getting.

Yeah i mean they are worth getting but they cost several hundred dollars. Plus I’m not 100% on whether they have multiple ports that you can have coming off of that for multiple resivoirs. I knkw most folks that use em use them in rdwc because in rdwc you have one main resivoir that circulates through the different buckets. I just don’t have the money or space to blow on a chiller plus the other options are better imo like running a sterile resivoir or a living resivoir instead of depending on a chiller. There will be a lot of people on here im sure that will have even more advice on all that

It is the simplicity of dwc that attracted me to it. Dont get me wrong it has its own set of challenges and things that can go wrong but still. It is a lot easier to correct things like ppm and ph in dwc. For i stance if your resivoir is mixed too strong with nutes it will cause your ppm to go up because your plants will take in more water than nutrients. So in that situation you jist add more plain ro water to bring that ppm down until you have it dialed in. I consider my plants to be dialed in when there is no change or only a changed of +/- 10ppm from day to day. At that point it is smooth sailing. Also the flora series that you are using is good but there are defi ktely better especially when talking hydroponics man. I used flora series my first run and first part of this one but im switching all the way over to remo nutrients. For the 7 part series it is 125 bucks but in comparrison to other lines of equal quality they are a really good deal. Anyways im rambling :joy:

Great advice and very much appreciated! I’ve been planning to make the switch to Remo nutrients. I can probably do fine without a chiller cause I grow in my basement and it’s cool down there year around.

Right plus being in Canada it isn’t as bad as it is down here. Anytime my brother!!

For sure! If I remember right you’re in Texas are you? Canada is pretty relaxed they say we can grow 4 but honestly I doubt much would happen unless you had a huge warehouse operation going on, i couldn’t even imagine anyone enforcing it especially if you had 8 or 10 in a 4x4 space. I remember back in the early 2000s growing like 8 and never having a issue.

Yeah man im in texas. Ive been battling the heat all summer. Got it under control in the last month but before that I was having problems. If you use remo, one of the nutes you put in is the beneficial bacteria and what not so you won’t be able to run sterile with bleach or h2o2 but mine seem to like it better this way. I was running sterile before and did fine but so far I’m digging his line. Other lines that compare to his are easily a extra 100 bucks

A little update.
Ieft them alone for a few days. I been doing a lot of reading the past few days and also talking with a co worker who grows, honestly I think I may have been under watering and I don’t mean not often enough but just not enough water in the pot, I was giving each plant 2 liters ( 1/2 gallon) and there was no run off which mean the soil in the bottom likely wasn’t getting wet, they were dry this evening and needed watering. I gave them straight PH’D water 4 liters (1gallon) each and there was a significant amount of run off was almost half of the little catch tray, i was able to test the PH of the run off and it was looking right around 6 or very low 6( I use drops) gonna leave them be for a few more days and see how things look,I am still interested in growing DWC but I think I’m gonna try to be patient and get good in soil than try some other methods when that happens.
Also I have little brown dots which if my searching is correct kinda looks like a calcium deficiency, last time they had nutes I gave them a pretty good dose of cal-mag so dunno
Also seems I may have had this new light to close ,kinda looks like the yellowing leaves in pics I’ve seen when the lights to close and I’ve read LED’s are bad for this.

It’s been a while so I figure it’s time for a little update.
They’re doing fairly well, still some leaf issues with 2 of them, both with issues were the random seeds i have no idea what strains. I also changed the timer to 12/12 , 5 days ago.

Stalks are nice and big,big knuckles from super cropping.

Some of the knuckles have white sticky resin coming out that smells amazing.

Got 1 plant that is doing this and nothing seems to change it, it’s doing well otherwise.

Does anyone know what is going on here, this plant is UK cheese and its 6 weeks into flower and its starting to look horrible and doesn’t seem to be getting mostly worse. The other 3 are doing great.

I’m a soil n00b but she looks a bit deficient. Already fading hard. I had the same thing happen recently with one of my NL’s and have tried to fix it but can’t say successfully yet or not…

I ended up top dressing with some alfalfa and kelp meal and did a EWC compost tea, and it seems to have slowed down the fade quite a bit. Maybe something similar could help you…

Are these all clones or from seed? Some plants just need more nutes or are more sensitive to deficiencies and can show issues quicker than others can.

I dunno what it is deficient in, they’re all fed well. I’m horrible at troubleshooting this stuff

oh nitrogen for sure, I think phosphorous too… The massive yellowing = nitrogen deficient.
A fade is normal but not at week 6 unless they’re 7-8 weekers, even then, there’s a lot of it happening.

The chlorosis at the leaf tips and midway look like phosphorous deficiency to me.

Hopefully can get at least one second opinion before you do anything as I’m not positive and yeah, rather new to soil stuff  Always done hydro…

Thanks I will wait for another opinion like you said and possibly give her some nitrogen, phosphorus I’m unsure as I’ve been feeding it medium to heavy if anything.

If you’re feeding them well then check your ph in your run off. PH may be locking it out. Good luck
