Rogutopia . 2023 . The Compost Towers

On the left, surrounding the gray tower: my mystery pollen chucked hybrid darlings.
On the right, surrounding the black tower: Blue Kush, joyfully received from @DougDawson

The left one was started a week or so later, the vetch hasn’t sprouted yet.

Stemrub on one of the Blue Kush is skunky, the other citrus/mentol, the others nothing yet.

Creating a new thread as this is a new setup and experiment.

The vetch is growing some very freaky tops… so probably quite enough nitrogen (N) in the soil already as vetch mostly thrives in poor soil, or there’s a lack of phosphorus ( P) and potassium (K) perhaps…? Or just root limitation…? Doesn’t matter much, gonna be chopped and into the tower they go!

So I’m placing kitchenscraps in the compostowers, extra bananapeels to add P and K.
Often watering with pasta water as well into the tubes, occasionally topwatering a little when the topsoil gets very dry but minimal, to prevent damaging insects laying eggs.

Companion crops include vetch, basil, calendula, (bell)pepper, dandelion, nettle and the rest is a mystery.

Window is at the North side.

Intention: May this method prove to be a magnificent success and may everything grown in these little gardens be of great soothing and healing value, providing bliss and divine ecstasy to all who eat from the abundant offerings!
May any seeds born from these soils be vigoriously fantastic beyond anything currently imaginable.
May the genetic lineage be profoundly awesome and of flabbergasting quality.

It is well with my soul.

I appreciate being able to play this game of seeds.
Thank you all for following along.
May peace rule your heart. :green_heart: :sparkles:

ashé [\a.ʃe](Annexe:Prononciation/français — Wiktionnaire, le dictionnaire libre) masculin

— (Abdelhafid Chlye, La transe, 1999)

Interesting!

Thank you for joining my shenanigans @Bayarealivingsoil :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
May the Force be with you!

I’ve always been intrigued by your methods. This experiment has me curious.
So, I’ll be tagging along!

I’m referring to this.

Yeah, pot with holes should definitely be just tube, after the first grow the old roots kinda jam up the holes for the next grow and don’t decompose fast enough.
I think compost tower is better idea now. I was surprised at how much nitrogen kitchenscraps contain, will feed more banana peels this time as they don’t contain any N.

The decomposing inside the dark tube happens crazy fast, a week and the volume is down to a third of when I filled it up, it just melts! Pouring pasta water in there almost every day too.

The smell is also surprisingly faint, only when I hold my head closely over the tube can I smell some funky gasses. :+1:

Wouldn’t throw any fish or meat in there though!

You seemed to be speaking your reality into existence. I was taught to seal it with:
And So It Is_____Ashé.
Becoming more calm by the moment. Thanks.
Peace

We all do, whether we are aware of it or not.
Thank you for your benevolent intent.
Peace always.

Chopped some of the companion crops.

Below, the three Blue Kush in the pot on the right:

Some minor nibbling from what I guess are thrips.

The yellow is optical illusion, it’s all green as can be!

Some mild bondage so that they all receive an abundance of light.

Another month and a half at least until daylight hours go down to 12, I’ll also place them in the closet then.
Will be interesting to see how far I can push this setup, I suspect the roots might start growing up into the towers.
Main food source is fresh bananapeels, with a little bit of other random scraps and chopped companion crops.
Watering into the towers until runoff (or almost) every few days.

Sowed two more mystery seeds in the right container, one of them broke soil today.

May everyone in this galaxy and every other galaxy in the universe feel groovy.
It is well with my soul.

Question for @BeagleZ
How often do you defoliate and when?

Quite a bit in veg. Usually every week or 2 I’ll take some foliage and shave up the legs.
Once in flower I give them usually 2 rounds, last one being the most aggressive around week 3 or 4 depending on the plant. I like to get the last one done just before they are done stretching.
I shave the legs more than I defoliate I’d say though

Interesting… thanks!

So far so good!
Topped some and all are responding very well.
Some gnats emerged from the tubes when I took the socks off to have a peek, oh well…
Humidity spiked here last couple of days, no more watering inside the towers for a few days.
Temps dropped so no sign of thrips anymore.

It is well with my soul.

Got myself a one armed rogue here!
Monofoliate seedling! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Curious how it will turn out.
May it survive and thrive! :green_heart:

Edit: it stopped growing and was in the shade all the time so lovingly chopped & dropped it.

Decarbing at 100 degr. Celsius (212 F) for different lengths of time. my personal findings

Thanks for liking this thread @TricycleOfDoom I almost forgot I created it.

Hi @Rogue,

I never considered different decarb times until I saw your topic. I must try that going forward.

I like how you also brought up blending. That’s something I’ve been trying this past year now; high cbd hemp with haze hybrids like blue dream and ssh, etc… My favourite intake is to grind a 2:1 blend and then each morning add some to the coffee grounds when making a pot. :coffee: :yum:

I enjoy eating it, it’s more slow release that way, but whatever floats your cup! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I ordered some 1:1 CBD:THC cultivars, they’re feminized but I’ll pollinate them and add the seeds to my mystery genepool mix.

I think in the long run that’s the smartest thing to do, keep polyhybridizing, for a maximum of diversity.

Simplicity rules.

Giving them some extra light at night during cloudy days.

Very happy with how it’s going!
My own pollen chucked darlings on the right, good vigor but quite lanky and long internodes… perhaps those are the males?
Thicc stalks though!
Not the slightest sign of root limitation. :+1:

We’ll see how many males show up…

Probably won’t be pollinating this time around, making seeds every other grow seems like a good rhythm!

It is well with my soul.
Peace to one and all.
